India Elections 2009 – Fatwa against Muslims joining BJP

While the Election Commission and the Uttar Pradesh Police investigate the “communal” remarks of Varun Gandhi, the ensuing Delhi based media circus should keep us entertained as real India makes up its mind on real issues.

It should not baffle anyone that Varun Gandhi should play the victimhood card in an election, after all playing victim has been the trademark of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty in soliciting votes starting with Indira Gandhi’s victimhood to Sonia Gandhi’s second sacrifice.

That the BJP should continue to indulge this other Gandhi family at the expense of negative press is baffling.

It is however heartening to note that both Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Shahnawaz Hussain have been fielded to disown Varun Gandhi’s remarks.

Mr. Advani should make a strong statement on this issue and put this controversy to rest so his spokespersons have other things to talk about to the Delhi based media and can be spared the embarassment of having to explain a Nehru-Gandhi’s victimhood.

Coming back to the subject of this post, it is interesting that the Election Commission is picking on Varun Gandhi when far worse things have been said by the Congress on communalizing the role of the Election Commision.

It is a commentary on the Delhi based media’s BJP obsessive compulsive disorder that this story has been completely ignored.

On 15th March 2009 the Congress Party organized a blatantly communal event in Chandigarh.

The event was organized in a Mosque, Jama Masjid Sector 20 to be precise.

The organizers of the event left no one in doubt on the communal intentions of the event.

In a bid to woo the Muslim community ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had organised a rally highlighting its secular credentials. Nearly 23 Muslim organisations from the city have also extended their support to the party.

Addressing the event were AICC General Secretary Mohsina Kidwai and Chairman of All India Congress Committee Minority Cell Imraan Kidwai.

Both the Kidwai’s speeches were markedly communal in nature but Mr. Imraan Kidwai’s remarks should be of specific interest to the Election Commission for he not just challenged the Constitutional Role of the Election Commission but sought to communalize it through a Fatwa.

Imraan Kidwai, chairman of the All India Congress Community, Minority Cell, said that if he had the power, he would issue a fatwa asking Muslims to abstain from joining the BJP. He said the Congress had never tried to change the Muslim personnel law.

Now that was just the media’s watered down version for Mr. Kidwai’s speech also dwelt on atrocities on Muslims by BJP Governments.

Does the Congress Party have the conviction to own up to its faith in Fatwas and Muslim Fundamentalist Clergy ti subordinate the Election Commission and the Constitution ?

Will the Election Commission in the interest of Dharma initiate action against Mr. Imraan Kidwai and the Congress Party for this for this blatant attempt at voter intimidation through the threat of Fatwa via Muslim Fundamentalist Clergy ?

People like Imraan Kidwai should be kicked out of India.

  3. Yoss,
You have missed an important point in that meet the candidate of Chandigarh Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal was present and he had endorsed of all that was said and sought votes there. This is an electoral offence of the candidate. We cant expect even handedness from EC with CEC-designate Navin chawla in the center-stage.

  4. prashant says:

BJP must compain to EC of that meet.
secondly just hear the speech of varun,it seems to me that it is doctored CD.
dont we recall “Sohrabuddin incident” spin by Media???

  5. drummasala says:

I don’t know why we/BJP guys are apologetic about Varun’s speech. This is what MSM has acheived.

  6. NR says:

Yesterday navjot Singh Sidhu refused to address a rally because it was close to the Golden Temple. So how can a election rally talking of parties be held in a mosque. this is clear case of code violation.

  7. KSV SUBRAMANIAN says:

Yoss, that is perfectly secular i.e. issuing fatwa against joining BJP. ” First claim on all resources should go to Muslims”, Lord Rama is a myth, Lord Rama is a drunkard, etc., are the gems from the secular brigade. http://www.expressbuzz.com/edition/story.aspx?Title=Madhani+set+to+put+CPM+in+a+spot&artid=jsBE9lbFfAw=&SectionID=1ZkF/jmWuSA=&MainSectionID=1ZkF/jmWuSA=&SectionName=X7s7i%7CxOZ5Y=&SEO=Yousuf,%20Madhani%20and%20Sufiya

The above clearly shows where the secular (?) secular, especially CPM, brigade stands. Remember the Kerala assembly passed a resolution for the release of Madhani, the suspect in the Coimbatore blast now acquited. But the government did not prefer an appeal against the acquital but the ministers celebrated his release. Selective secularism ?

But remember I said the sickular media is not saying which states are afraid of holding IPL matches? They just said 4 of the 6 states said NO!

See ToI coverage just now – its Delhi, Jaipur and Vizag. . . so 3 out of the 4 I guessed were right, as Congress ruled “darpok” states.

Of course Ahmedabad, Punjab and Dharamsala (ALL BJP ruled) are OK to host. . . this shd be highlighted in a BIG way!!

    Go NaMo!! Read ON!

No IPL matches in Delhi and Jaipur

NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League organisers on Tuesday submitted a revised schedule to the Home Ministry in a bid to salvage the high-profile
Twenty20 event which has run into trouble due to security concerns.

A day after meeting between Home Ministry and IPL officials failed to break the deadlock on the schedule which coincides with the general elections; the organisers have re-worked the dates for the third time.

“We have received a new schedule from the IPL organisers today and have sent to states for their view,” a Home Ministry spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab gave their green signal for hosting the T20 tournament in their respective states. This latest development comes as a big relief for IPL, but the rest of the states are still to give a clearance.

Punjab will host the IPL matches on April 12, 19, 21 and 28.

In further changes to the original IPL itinerary, Delhi, Jaipur and Vizag were dropped from the list of venues. The BCCI has proposed Ahmedabad and Dharmashala as the alternative venues and the IPL received further boost when Kolkata clarified they don’t have any problem with the revised schedule.

Sources told TIMES NOW that there is no cut back on the number of matches as multiple centre are likely to be opted and that the home and away format might be done away with.

Desperate to get the cash-rich event on track, the IPL’s top brass held a series of meetings since Monday to fine-tune the schedule which has now taken into account the reservations and security constraints of the states hosting the matches.

The Home Ministry had told the organisers that cosmetic changes in the fixture was not acceptable and they would have to finalise the dates in consultation with the state governments.

With less than a month to go for the cash-rich Twenty20 event to get underway, the Home Ministry’s rejection of the second proposed schedule submitted by the IPL organisers has put a question mark on the fate of the tournament beginning on April 10.

A three-member BCCI team, led by Secretary N Srinivasan, met Special Secretary (Internal Security) Raman Srivastava in the Home Ministry where they were told not to indulge in cosmetic changes.

“The Home Ministry have expressed their concerns, they have explained it to us in details. We’ve also explained our difficulties and concerns and the importance of all the stakeholders,” Srinivasan had told reporters.

The IPL is keen to hold the tournament between April 10 and May 24 as any postponement would mean that the event has to be shelved till this period next year in view of the crammed cricketing calendar.

A postponement would also entail heavy financial losses for the organisers as well as the eight franchisees many of whom have already gone ahead with their merchandising and ad campaigns.

BJP has to do better in Rajasthan and New Delhi. Orissa will be a disappointment, but my gut feel is that Patnaik will come around after the elections. An inquiry has been ordered into a Congress’ complaint against BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from here Murli Manohar Joshi for alleged violation of model code of conduct.
Deputy District Electoral officer Praveen Aggrawal told PTI that following the complaint regarding pasting of posters at public places in the name of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Vichar Pravah Sansthan allegedly containing photographs and message of Joshi, an inquiry was ordered yesterday.

Aggrawal said the enquiry is being conducted by the City Magistrate (Third) Shrinath Shukla.

Meanwhile, another case for allegedly violating poll code conduct has been registered against the saffron party candidate from Ghosi (Mau) Parliamentary seat Ramiqbal Singh.

Official sources said that BJP supporters carried out a procession along with a big motorcade of about 40 vehicles without the required permission of the electoral officer. According to the Superintendent of Police, Mau, they also violated the prohibitory orders under section 144.

He said that a case against was registered on Sunday in this regard.

Last couple of weeks, almost all cases of poll code violation seems to be against BJP. Looks like no poll code violation if congresswallahs do it.

    Here you go again!!
    What would you do?
Or actually what CAN you do?
Why are you fighting a loosing battle?
We have the money, the power, the media, the opinion-makers, the judges, the presidents, the election commissions, and the street ruffians. We have the western world, the Islamic world, the communist world, the rich, the poor, the business tycoons, the drug-lords, the Christians bishops and the Islamic scholars. Who do you think stand between us and our goal? Between resurgence of dwindling Catholicism, aggressive evangelical Christians, autocratic China, Pan Islamic utopia from Africa to Indonesia, neo-conservative republicans, peace-loving democrats, communist romanticism with poor peasants, failed European nations trying to recapture lost glory and erstwhile empire desperately trying to project its fading sheen?
It’s India and her Hindu ethos. It’s India with a BACKBONE. Our wishes and final goals may be different but our intermediate goal and only obstacle is the SAME. It’s that stupid Hindu. Unless we eradicate the Hindu word from the face of this planet, our goals can not be achieved. It’s not about winning the 2009 elections or some stupid state elections. It’s a civilization battle. Plain and Simple. We can not and will not allow some Advani or Modi becoming the PM and transpiring some steel and hope into the nation and its Hindu people thus reducing our hope drastically. We will discredit, vilify, attack, shame and nullify each and every attempt by you to regroup under a Hindu identity. We have 250 million people of India and 850 billion dollars of money with us – both the counts growing exponentially. We have all the leaders, non-leaders, born-leaders, saboteurs, traitors, fixers and dealers with us. And we’ll not stop until each and every person, who’s not with us, makes their choice. Either they will be bought or will be deleted from this earth. And gradually the land of Sanskrit will welcome the modern ideas from outside after burying its inglorious past of 5000 years.

Sirdesai, i was about to say I wanted to knock the f— out of you. . .until I realized you were being sarcastic. It’s sad that it’s so anger-provoking – but it’s only anger-provoking because it’s about to become reality.

More importantly, why the hell do we care? I wonder – someone please help me out here – the voting rate for Muslims? The voting rates for Hindus? I’m guessing a lot more Muslims, despite being “poor” and “getting driven to resort to terror because of that blinding poverty”, end up getting “motivated” to vote compared to Hindus with similar socioeconomic status? Can’t BJP just get the Ambanis (I guess only M now. .) and Tatas and Birlas to “donate” funds to “motivate” BJP voters? These corporations benefit much more from BJP rule, you’d think they’d want to do more to get pro-India Inc into office rather than having to constantly “oil the machine” when UPA is in power?

Also, anyone at INI, let’s see an opinionated post on Sharif & co. happenings?

  26. Moderate says:

And also, despite being ardently pro-BJP ever since conception, I <3 Indira Gandhi – so what’s with the IG victimhood digs?

Appeasement, regrettably yes, but victimhood? Woman had it so tough, was mad strong, and KILLED at anything she wanted to accomplish despite all odds!
Women – especially Indian women – don’t have the luxury of getting to hide behind victimhood. . . .

  27. Moderate says:

And if India got tough and Gitmo’ed all its Kidwais and Zakir Naiks and madrassa leaders – maybe with that sort of leverage, we could get “resettlement plans” back to Saudi Arabia and other ME nations for our continental loonies? Just a thought . . . .

  33. prashant says:

Controversial brother-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Sadhu Yadav on Tuesday met Union minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and expressed his desire to join Congress.

“I have put up certain conditions for joining Congress,” Yadav told reporters after meeting Shinde but declined to reveal the details.

Yadav, an MP from Gopalganj seat in Bihar, was accompanied by former Union minister Jay Narayan Prasad Nishad as well as a senior RJD leader Ramai Ram when he met Shinde.

The trio huddled into an hour-long discussion with Shinde, who said he will convey their desires to join Congress to the party high command.

The development follows Prasad’s announcement of seat- sharing with Ram Vilas Paswan-led LJP in Bihar.

Yadav, whose Gopalganj seat had been converted into a reserved seat post the delimitation, hold a parallel press conference while Prasad was making the announcement.

Disapproving the RJD-LJP agreement, Yadav said he himself would contest from the two seats alloted to LJP.

Earlier, convicted RJD MP from Madhepura Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav also met Shinde, a day after he had gone to the AICC office here to meet the party’s Bihar in-charge Iqbal Singh.

Singh was also present when Shinde met the rebel leaders.

  37. such a gandhi says:

I’d really like to comment only after watching a full and unedited version of the video of the speech, but couldn’t find any on youtube. The “…if attacked…” context is the key I am searching for: whether his statement is conditional or not. This is not clear at this moment from MSM reports. So pardon me folks, I have made reasonable assumptions in writing the following. Please turn your sense of humour on before proceeeding….

Question is, isn’t Varun Gandhi a Gandhi ? Did he, or did he not, promise to turn the customary other cheek (as Mahatma Gandhi taught) — if attacked ?

If he did not, then kya ho raha hai bhai, why does he have this fancy surname “Gandhi”. This is one Gandhi too many coming in to confuse the voter, as if the Gandhi’s don’t have a tough time already. Tell me, how many Gandhi’s can a country take at a time. Something has to give!

Varun Gandhi should be re-educated to “offer the other cheek” and watch the attacker become red-faced with shame. Of course, if it is the head that the enemy chops… just offer the other head, simple as that !

If Gandhi (the Mahatma) were alive during the Mumbai terror attacks, he would have not only fasted for a full week, but also offered New Delhi as the other cheek. That would have made LeT/ISI red faced and too ashamed to hit us thereafter.

  38. venkatesh says:

The BJP has to stop trying to win the approval of the media and just do the thing. If Varun has done something stupid, the opposition has done tons of stupid things. If he gets taken to court, so be it, take paswan to court, take laloo to court. Take the entire Con gress party to court. File PILs against all the SOBs and then lets see who all get disbarred and put behind bars.

  39. venkatesh says:

  40. Ravi says:

    Yoss,

If they went against Varun Gandhi for uttering “Hindu”, guess who will be the next target.

Yes, it will be the blog-space. Soon they might manage some kind of regulations on blog-space to get bloggers out of their way. Currently MSM is not in a position to “preach there religion” in blog-space. So they might attempt a “forced conversion”

  41. drummasala says:

    Lets see:

    1) Bhagwan Sri Ram does not exist – Is it not a hate affidavit?
    2) Bhagwan Sri Ram is a drunkard – is it not a hate speech?
    3) Posters of Osama Bin Laden (who is agaist India and Hindus) in Bihar elections – is it not a hate election campaign?
    4) All muslims have first right to resources – is it not a hate speech?
    5) All Hindus are terrorist remark by Diggy – is it not a hate speech?

  42. Balaji says:

People don’t seem to recognize the media game and are stupidly supporting Varun Gandhi. I think BJP shud withdraw his candidacy. The last thing we want in UP is communal polarization and tactical voting by muslims. Congress/SP will be the biggest beneficiaries of such tactical voting. Thats what the media wants too. Out of 80 seats, we were aiming for a paltry 10. With more hate speeches like this, we might get zero there.

And ppl who think communal polarization will help BJP too shud remember Eastern UP in the last assembly elections.

  43. Ajay says:

I’m seriously considering working with lawyers to file cases where pseudo-seculars have tried to placate non-Hindus.

If BJP is forced to apologize for saying they’ll protect Hindus, then psuedo-seculars have a lot of apologizing to do, and lets force them to do it.

  44. jk1996 says:

The self-pity of you BJP-loving bloggers amazes me. ‘Victimhood of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty?’ What about the victimhood of the BJP lover? Isn’t their antipathy to Muslims based entirely on the perceived victimhood of Hindus at the hands of Muslims? You’re right, unrelenting victimhood makes you sick, and the BJP brand of it most of all. As a Hindu, I’d like to get on with my life, not live the rest of it with an eye cocked on what fatwas the Muslims are up to.

By the way, I’m sure you know that fatwas are not the unchallengeable decrees they are made out to be. This, you’d like to know, is a myth entirely propagated by the very media you denounce as ’sickular’.

  45. drummasala says:

Congress does not need to fight BJP. MSM is doing its job. BJP got apologetic about terrorism issue after loss of Delhi. Now BJP does not talk about that much. I don’t know what Varun said, but he is saying that CD is doctored. If it is true, then BJP should not be apologetic. What a waste of time..MSM never concentrated on the failures of Congress. I don’t know why BJP is on backfoot. They also bogged down by this MSM.

  46. Manish says:

This is something I have been thinking for a while. Now, I feel is the time to bounce this idea off some like minded people. So, here it goes. Currently, model code of conduct is in effect. That means each and every action of an electoral candidate is carefully scrutinized. All expense incurred by candidate and his/her party is accounted for as per the people’s representation act. The question then becomes of the partisan role of media. If media is partisan towards a particular party then shouldn’t the cost of transmission of that segment (in which partiality is displayed) be going towards the account of the benefiting political party? The constitution grants freedom of speech but constitution does not grant freedom of amplification of that speech. This amplification of unfair news is what needs to be curtailed. Any thoughts?

  47. An Indian at Sidelines says:

    Hi…

    Was busy with a State-based analysis…. and I have completed it now…

    So how does it goes…

    Few developments…

    1. NDA is fastly catching up… and it may actually give a strong competition to UPA

    2. It has potential future allies in AIADMK, PMK, MDMK, TRS, TDP or PRP (one of them), BJD, TMC, LJP… if it brings all of them together… they have a brighter chances of making the Government

    3. UPA has potential allies in a very few parties… in fact it may lose a few allies in Tamilnadu, WB, Bihar, and even MH. Progressively its chances are becoming dimmer… the only silver lining is that it may eventually win over JDS, BJD, TRS, PRP and a few other

    4. Varun Gandhi’s vitriolic speech was a well-thought strategy… UP doesnt have any credible BJP leader… Varun would be trying to project himself as one… its a no loss scenario for BJP… may actually increase a marginal number of seats for BJP in Western UP..

    5. INC keeping away from RJD-LJP is a significant development… it is trying to keep doors open for JDU… and dump RJD, in case JDU performs spectacularly well (which it will)

So my estimates (first UPA/second NDA/third Third Front/ Fourth Rest)

    Andhra Pradesh 15 -01 – 24 -02
    Assam 05- 07 – 01 -01
    Bihar 12- 27 – 00 -01
    Chattisgad 03- 08 – 00- 00
    Delhi 04 -03 – 00 -00

    Final Tally UPA= 220-225
    NDA= 175-180
    TF = 145-150

    1. My statewise analysis proves that my first assessment inflated NDA tally, while deflating UPA and TF. However… I still believe that if I had done a statewise analysis I would have arrived to a lower tally than 175 for NDA a week ago

    2. NDA has gained 5-10 seats over the last week… despite losing a key ally

    3. Laloo, Left, DMK, Mulayam, Sharad Pawar are in for a huge shock… and JDU, TMC, AIADMK and BSP is going to make huge gains…

    4. I am deleting the name of Sharad Pawar from the probable candidates for PM ship… the new entrant in J. Jayalalitha…his soft Hindutva may actually make her acceptable to BJP… and the she may bring along PMK, MDMK and a few other regional parties to the fold of NDA…. to have first Tamil PM

    5. I am also adding the name of LK Advani and Manmohan Singh to the list… in that order… LKAdvani now has some wee bit of chances… if BJP is able to do slightly better in UP (that is if Varun Gandhi issue snowballs) as also in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka … BJP would win about 150 seats… and would have a claim.

    Thanks

Let us ignore these Psecwallahs and they will move on to the next story in a couple of days. I dont think the actual voting public gives a damn about this story.

Even if media is unbiased (with say 50% favorable and 50% critical coverage of each candidate), its “favorable” coverage alone can wipe out budget of ALL candidates in no time.

As much as I feel MSM in India is biased, I don’t think it matters as much as we & even the media thinks it matters.

At the Friends of BJP meet in Mumbai, Arun Jaitley made this very clear. Watch his examples and commentary toward the end of that speech at 1:45:50 (Hr:Min:Sec)

Here is an article from Swapan Dasgupta’s blog relevant to the current Arun Jaitley – Rajnath Singh situation. It is very relevant since Swapan Dasgupta is VERY close to Arun Jaitley:

    L’affaire Jaitley

When it comes to the subject of Arun Jaitley, I drop all pretensions of objectivity. I regard him as a close friend, a well-wisher and, at times, my guide to the world of politics. I camped with him in Ahmedabad for nearly a fortnight during the 2007 Gujarat Assembly election; I also spent 10 days helping him out during the Karnataka Assembly election last summer.

It is not that I agree with him at all times. In the last fortnight, we had sharply divergent perspectives on the happenings in Orissa. But our serious disagreements are laced with humorous bantering. He never questions my motives and I have no doubt of his unimpeachable integrity.

Over the past few days Jaitley has been in the news for all wrong reasons. His objection to the appointment of a BJP co-convenor for the North-eastern states has become the prism through which the party is being viewed in the media. If any other BJP had raised objections or chosen to register a protest, the matter would have been a footnote in the media. With Jaitley it is different. He is a media darling and his protest has predictably hogged the airwaves.

It would amount to breaking people’s confidences if I narrate the details of the controversy. There are just a few points I would like to underline. These may help people make up their own minds about the kerfuffle.

    1. Politics is not the be-all and end-all for Jaitley. He is one of India’s most successful lawyers; he is up to his neck in cricket administration; and he loves interaction with friends, most of whom are not directly involved in politics. Unlike most politicians, he has a life outside politics. He can afford to take moral positions.

    2. Jaitley has a fierce sense of right and wrong. Like his political colleague Narendra Modi he can be uncompromising. His affable exterior conceals a a firmly cemented spine.

    3. Jaitley is central to the BJP’s election management. He is the bridge to NDA partners such as Nitish Kumar in Bihar, the slippery Ajit Singh in Uttar Pradesh and the two Badals in Punjab. He is also the BJP’s main fund raiser–a crucial responsibility in these difficult times.

    4. Jaitley is unequivocally committed to doing his utmost for the BJP campaign. He believes that he owes it to L.K. Advani. He is impatient with the “semi-final election” theory.

At this juncture it is imprudent to say anything more. People can draw their own conclusions.

  59. NR says:

Here is true story of Congress

Remember in maha, we have had reports of ncp wanting to ensure congress candidates defeated and yesterday reports of maha congress wanting to not cooperate with ncp or go alone.

Left high and dry by its allies in the key state of Uttar Pradesh, the UPA seems to be having difficulties in a number of states ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The latest jolt to the Congress came from its trusted ally RJD which cut from its quota of four, leaving it a paltry three seats in the state which sends 40 members to the Lok Sabha.

The Bihar fiasco followed the one in UP where Samajwadi Party played truant despite lengthy seat sharing talks.

As SP has already announced 74 of the 80 seats so far, there is hardly any scope for any adjustment as AICC General Secretary in-charge of the state Digvijay Singh indicated today.

So far, the only seat-sharing pact which the Congress has been able to clinch is in West Bengal with the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress. Here too, Congress has been reduced to a junior partner, contesting only 14 of the 42 seats in the state.

In Karnataka, the Congress was hoping for some understanding with the JDS. After the Deve Gowda led party joined the Third Front, the hopes have fallen flat.

Another understanding which the party can hope for now is in Maharashtra for which negotiations are on though no formal announcement has been made so far.

Congress is keeping its fingers crossed in Jharkhand where a multi-party alliance is facing inner contradictions and demands of more seats by the alliance partners.

The ruling party here is faced with demands by partners like JMM, RJD and LJP which it is finding difficult to reconcile.

In Tamil Nadu, the PMK is not on board so far and only the DMK seems to be a partner. Vaiko’s party MDMK has already moved to the AIADMK. Not surprisingly, no seat sharing pact has been announced.

Or do they think the Hindus are bunch of violent folks hell-bent in creating trouble for the poor peace living minorities?

Have they ever studied how the media in other countries operate?

Not even a single newspaper/tabloid in a country like UK can survive if they portray the majority white Christians in bad light or even try playing the minority card, the way desi media does almost everyday.

No one can even think of erecting a statue of an Indian Gentleman (say Raj Kapoor) in front of a church in UK, even if there are a lot of Indian community around, and there is nothing wrong with it, its not even a religious issue, its plain cultural issue, plain common sense, why should they if its not relevant to their way of life?

I am sure like our corrupt politicians; most of our deranged media can only survive in India. In developed western countries, people will not even think for a second to reject them, they will just kick them out of circulation.

Another perspective on the AJ-RS spat. BJP needs to resolve this soon.

    wwwdothindudotcom/2009/03/18/stories/2009031856101000.htm

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Arun Jaitley stayed away from two central election committee meetings on Tuesday also. He had absented himself from the March 13 meeting.

Mr. Jaitley earlier indicated to his friends that he would not attend the CEC meetings as long as businessman Sudhanshu Mittal continued to hold charge of political affairs in the northeastern States along with three party leaders.

The meetings, chaired by BJP president Rajnath Singh, were attended by senior leaders L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Ram Lal.

Several party leaders privately expressed their dismay at the developments. Anyone less important than Mr. Jaitley would have by now been shown the door, they said.

“Uma Bharti was expelled for protesting the off-the-record briefings by leaders on a party forum,” one leader pointed out. He said the “pain” was being felt by those who would have to go to their allotted constituencies and campaign hard through heat and dust. “Some leaders sitting in air-conditioned rooms are spoiling the atmosphere for the party.”

    Completely isolated

He added: “Today no one wants to be seen standing next to Mr. Jaitley or rubbing shoulders with him. He stands completely isolated for hurting the party at a most critical juncture.”

Not many in the party are buying Mr. Jaitley’s “ethical” stand, pointing out that he facilitated ticket for some people close to him. Mr. Jaitley has also come in for criticism for the advertisement using the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks in the Delhi Assembly election, which, the party is convinced, backfired. One leader claimed that clearing that advertisement was his “unilateral decision.”

As for Mr. Mittal, most leaders believe that Mr. Jaitley is using him to fire at other big guns including Mr. Rajnath Singh and Ms. Swaraj. The view is that Mr. Mittal is too small in the party for Mr. Jaitley to have given him so much attention.

  70. Avidriya says:

    Guys,

Lets not get apologetic about Varun Gandhi. Even msm footage does not show using word M.” Obviously some quarters will be peeved, how come anyone from communal hindus talk about resisting terror attacks. Isn’t it a secular right of the jehadi and evan-jehadis to kill, maim and convert hindus in pursuit of their respective heavens.

What amuses me is that MSM spin maestros are projecting him as great grandson of nehru. Is their a reason to hide that he is first cousin of yuvraj ? Surely that is a more relevant relationship in the current context.

  71. Fir-e-brand says:

^^Arjun, Actually its true that any other leader of a smaller stature than AJ would have been shown the door by party. He has chosen to smear and tar the party at the most inopportune time bearing in mind that after Delhi elections nobody questioned his strategy and ticket distribution. He stands diminished in the party and will have to live with it now. However as per informal news and opinion filtering in the NDA has a realistic chance of stopping INC in the tracks even if it fails to form a govt although it seems set to be within sniffing distance of majority.

  72. arjun says:

Firbrand, while I support AJ over RS, I do agree that in the end AJ is ruining his own standing. RS being wily, is letting this drag on before asking Mittal to resign. That way AJ is gets more isolated and discredited.

These kind of things are not good when the party has a realistic chance of coming to power.

What do you mean by stopping INC? Are you suggesting that if NDA does not get majority, it will prop up a govt without Congress support?

  73. Dhananjay says:

Most (probably none) of us know enough about the Arun Jaitley – Rajnath Singh tussle.

However, I would not mind drawing the following conclusions – based on whatever limited information we have from the MSM (that we do not much trust) :-)

    - AJ may be giving too much importance to Sudhanshu Mittal. He could just ignore the appointment OR not make any issues unless AJ’s decisions are eing challenged by Mittal.
    - AJ is hurting the party to an extent (whether or not he realizes it).
    - AJ is hurting himself (certainly in the long run) by implying that everyone with strong convictions can hold party hostage at a crucial time.
    - LKA has not done enough within hours of this happening from getting Rajnath & Arun together AND resolving it – amicably if possible and with a directive if necessary. Now is not the time to spend weeks on “consensus building” exercise.
    - If there indeed is no issue (as LKA said), then BJP has not done enough to quash media speculation.

After all, the Central Election Committee cannot make decisions that everyone agrees with ALL the time. But, everyone cannot threaten to resign or not participate every time a decision does not go their way.

While it is not impossible, I doubt that this is a “planned” tussle to distract the media & AJ is out of Delhi for some secret negotiations with some parties – probably in the south).

Anantnag to rename as Islamabad – What our Media failed to Highlight

Muslims in Kashmir are trying to remove all Hindu religious symbols and rename ancient places. Also hundreds of temples have been either encroached or destroyed.

We are deeply anguished to learn that a bill has been introduced in the J&K assembly by the PDP, MLA Peerzada Manzoor Hussain proposing to change the name of historic Anantnag town to Islamabad.

The mentality and intent behind the introduction of this bill is clearly to Islamize the entire nomenclature of the valley which has been a cradle of Hindu civilization for the last 5000 years.

This is part of the same process by which the names of 700 villages in the valley have been changed. Even the names of the landmarks like the Shankaracharya Hill has been changed to Takht-i-Sulaiman and the name of historic Hari Parbat has been changed to Koh-i-Maran.

The officialdom seems to be colluding with these forces as we see the same in the proposed name of the Srinagar airport as Shaikh-ul-Alam airport. In the country we see a process of going back to the original and historical names but here we see a process of destroying history and historical names. Given a choice these forces would change the names of their ancestors even.

The process of genocide and exodus started with the Anantnag riots of 1986 and culminated in the complete exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in 1990.

This mindset is visible in the statement of Mehbooba Mufti who recently said that the land from Panchtarni to amaranth belongs to Maliks, as if Amarnath was their personal fiefdom.

  77. Fir-e-brand says:

Actually the AJ-RS spat as per my sources is a case of “Til ka Taar” by the former. S Mittal is at best a small fry and does not warrants the kind of attention AJ is giving to him. The actual issue is of supermacy and AJ feels that he is the natural successor to AB Vajpayee and thus wants to cement his position in the party and with allies. However senior leaders like Sushma Swaraj, R Singh and Ram Lalji are opposed to his unchallenged ascendancy. The major problem with AJ is that he has never contested or won any election and thus his claims of being a mass leader are non existent on top of that he has managed to isolate himself within the party by his antics at such a crunch time.

Regarding a non UPA government being propped up NDA in case it falls short of majority, it is a big possibility and is being discussed in order to topple the family rule at centre.

Bear in mind that none of my views/inputs are put in as an interested party. My only aim is a strong India and strong Indians.

Congress in deep crap in cow belt states. UP no alliance, Bihar-3 seats and Now Jharkhand, they are fighting to keep the alliance.

    Cong dwarfed in cow belt

NEW DELHI: It’s not just Prakash Karat and his friends who are trying to hem in Congress. Parties in UPA, too, are doing their bit to ensure that
Congress remains a marginal player in major states. There was fresh evidence to this when RJD chief Lalu Prasad relegated the Congress to a fringe player in Bihar by awarding it just three of the 40 Lok Sabha seats. Mr Lalu Prasad rubbed it in by saying that the number of seats allotted to the Congress was based on “ground realities”.

In the neighbouring UP, Mr Mulayam Singh also had cited this “ground reality” to leave out just five of the 80 seats. The Congress refusal to accept the humiliating terms set by the SP is leading to a four-cornered contest in Uttar Pradesh. Although Mr Mulayam Singh on Tuesday repeated that his party was willing for a dialogue with Ms Sonia Gandhi, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh told reporters that there was no scope for any negotiations as the SP has already announced its candidates for 75 seats.

The development in the two politically crucial northern states must be galling for the Congress. At a CWC meeting held in February end, Congress leaders had expressed apprehensions about the possibility of the allies encircling the Congress. But the Congress leadership, which was hoping that the allies would come around and strike a respectable deal, did not give in to the pressure for exploring the option of contesting alone in the Lok Sabha election.

Mr Lalu Prasad and Mr Mulayam Singh have hit at the Congress’ vanity of being the “only credible national player”. If the treatment meted out to the Congress by the SP and the RJD is anything to go by, they consider the Congress worthy of contesting just eight of the 120 seats.

What must be worrying for the Congress is the refusal of the allies to factor in the Congress’ sensitivities. The very fact that Mr Lalu Prasad and Mr Ram Vilas Paswan decided to go public with the details of the alliance without taking the Congress in the loop indicates that the alliance in Bihar has virtually become a Lalu-Paswan affair. Mr Lalu Prasad also rejected the claim of the NCP for the Katihar seat contending that he would not like enter to any pact with a party which hobnobs with Mr Bal Thackeray and Mr Raj Thackeray.

This will embolden other allies like NCP’s Sharad Pawar to play hard to get. The NCP leader, who is driving a hard bargain in Maharashtra, is refusing to accept the Congress’ claim to lead the next government. Not just that, he has also said that nature of the next governing alliance will be decided after the election. Mr Pawar is also not willing to share the Congress anathema for the third front parties.

It was only last week that Ms Mamata Banerjee arm twisted the Congress into signing a political pact in West Bengal solely on her terms. Of the 14 seats allotted to the Congress, the seven seats falling in South Bengal are essentially Red bastions.

Given this, the party’s forward movement in states that account for close to 200 seats is impeded by its own allies. Although coalition compulsions have been making national parties to cede ground for the allies, the rival side did not have to make such compromises.

Those in Congress who have been arguing for carving out an independent space will feel vindicated. The current agreement with its allies will further delay the possibility of the party’s revival in all these states.

2.He may scrap through in Gaziabad, anyone in this forum can give an equal fight on a BJP ticket from that place.
3.RS was chief minister and BJP had its sharpest fall in UP (though RS) kept on climbing.
4.During RS regime, corruption was sean to be believed.
5.It was during his regimes that Brahmins started moving away from BJP for the first time. I can give the incident, the date and the name. It has to do with RS sadak chap politics.
    6. It is alleged that many seats were sold in Dlehi and Rajasthan elections and that was one reason of BJP loss
7.Some 2.5 carore (some say 25) carores were stolen from BJP headquarters.
    8. If you think, AJ is a ver succesfull lawyer, he commands a fees of RS. 1 lakh per hour at Supreme court, he can lead a very easy life.
    9. It is true that AJ may not have won an election (he did win fighting for ABVP), RS meetings have known to attract no more than 300 people.
    10. Out of 4-6 % of Thakur votes in UP, RS cannot influence even .01% of that vote.
11.One person who has played a backroom role in getting Kalyan Singh kicked out of BJP, not once but twice and benefitted from it (guess who was CM when Kalyan was out).
    12. One person has played a very dirty caste politics and marganalised most BC leaders in UP. And the irony is that not a single person from his caste will vote for BJP because of him.
So in this fight, if you choose a villian, choose smartly.
Yoss, fell free to edit the post.
    thanks,
    Indian

How come RSS is not able to realize RS’s worth? It seems he is able to get support from RSS.

  86. Indian says:

And yes we are a group of people who have done some nifty seat by seat analysis. I could be wrong (and I think I am, I would say 90% that I am in this case), but few seats distribution, few candidates do not make sense, in seats where BJP can and will win. Is there a repeat of Delhi, are we giving seats to people who will loose it even when the right candidate or maybe even the second best or third best can win it for BJP?

  87. arjun says:

RS had to cancel a public meeting in MP since nobody showed up.

  88. R.V. says:

BJP supporters have to live with the fact at least for now that BJP has a president who is driven by a personal agenda, not party’s success. Jaitley is doing the right thing. BJP chances are not great anyway. So better show up the internal saboteurs even before the results come. But after elections, whatever the numbers, Rajnath’s game would be up. It’s win-win for Jaitley, lose-lose for Rajnath. But the sad thing is we are providing so much gist to the mill of our detractors, and helping them to rubbish us in everybody’s eyes.

  89. [...] This other observation, also on INI platform, by Offstumped is beyond my understanding: It should not baffle anyone that Varun Gandhi should play the victimhood card in an election, after all playing victim has been the trademark of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty in soliciting votes starting with Indira Gandhi’s victimhood to Sonia Gandhi’s second sacrifice. [Offstumped] [...]

  90. Jiggs says:

    Folx…

I dunno if I saw the real video on Varun or maybe something else, however, I did not find any SUCH hate filled content.

Anyways, we Indian cattle will have to follow what a minority says.

All, I know is that BJP must not show any desperation that it want’s to get to power, if they do this then it backfire big time on them. They must prepare for the elections with the idea of being the single largest party in India, power will come automatically to them once they achieve this.

I’m afraid, but LKA by not being his usual self is showing that kind of desperation that BJP is power hungry.

Just imagine if LKA announces that we intend to sit in the opposition rather then give up seats to allies to form the government, what impact will have on the current scenario?

I am saying this is due to the fact that AIADMK, BJD, SS and now even JD(U) is acting funny.

  91. Jiggs says:

People in Mumbai are saying that they want an alternative to the CON gress and the alternative is BJP, however, they are also saying that till the BJP fields a candidate it is fine, but we will definetly not vote for an regional party, they relate the problems faced by the nation to these regional parties.

I am getting worried by this trend. SS fights on the all important Mumbai South, Mumbai – Central. Very important for the NDA to win these two in addition to others.

Yogeshbhau….Middle class wants BJP candidates all over Mumbai, I have spoken to voters and trust me many of them. You views.
