Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi has written an op-ed piece in the Times of India attempting to defend the UPA’s record on Terrorism. The piece is titled “Only UPA can control terror“.
One can already think of half a dozen “Merchant of Death” Narendra Modi’s comeback on this one, but levity apart Mr. Singhvi’s defense is hardly credible.
So what facts does Abhishek Singhvi provide as proof of UPA’s ability to “control” terror since it assumed offce.
2004-2005 - ZERO facts presented on what the UPA did to control Terror
2005-2006 – ZERO facts presented on what the UPA did to control Terror
2006-2007 - ZERO facts presented on what the UPA did to control Terror
2007-2008 – ZERO facts presented on what the UPA did to control Terror
Jan-Mar 2009 - 2 facts presented on what the UPA did after Terror struck
#1 – Pakistan’s rather inconsequential non-admission of guilt
#2 – . Two seminal acts of Parliament creating a federal anti-terror agency and amending substantive law
Mr. Singhvi’s Congress betrays us again for his defense doesnt quite explain how the UPA controlled terror in the nearly 5 years it was in office nor does it explain why the UPA passed 2 seminal acts of Parliament in the last 3 months of its term.
Mr. Singhvi’s betrayal hurt even when he delivers this sermon on the UPA’s anti-terror philosophy as being about
#1 taking concrete steps dealing with police reforms, logistical support
#2 providing an unprecedented dose of concerted, coercive diplomacy
#3 investing in equipment and human resources
#4 all within a humane and inclusive approach to governance which does not divide society or communities to reap cheap political benefits
So if indeed that was the UPA’s anti-terror philosophy for the 5 years it was in office then why pray is Mr. Singhvi complaining that
the UPA is still grappling with the large number of unfilled senior IPS posts while both the IB and CBI have over 50 per cent vacancies at senior levels.
Mr. Singhvi unfortunately does not bother to present any evidence of the UPA having practised even a single element of the philosophy he articulates.
Being adept at using the art of eloquence to whitewash delinquency Mr. Singhvi’s defense attempts to erase from public memory 13 attacks of mass terror between 2005 and 2008 with no reference to his government’s response to them. Mr Singhvi instead cynically attempts to take credit for the half-baked diplomacy that has been pursued after 26/11 and is yet to yield any concrete results.
In response to this “sleight of the Hand” from the Congress, Offstumped would like to pose the below question to Mr. Singhvi
Sir should we take this defense of yours as the Congress’ slap on the face of “Aam Admi” who suffered attacks of Mass Terror in
Delhi, Varnasi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Malegaon, Samjhauta, Hyderabad, Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Delhi
For neither do you Mr. Singhvi provide any facts on what your government did to control Terror after every one of the above attacks
nor do you Mr. Singhvi explain to the “aam admi” victims of these terror attacks why their ordeal did not merit “seminal acts of legislation by Parliament” to bring the perpetrators to Justice.

Comrade Balaji,
You make a valid point.
I met a Mallu guy who said that he voted CPIM last time but that he and his family are not going to vote for that party again in their lifetimes because of all those murders and rapes that commies committed in WB. He asks me “why should I vote for these people when they are raping women and justiyfing the murders saying it won’t discredit them?”
My friend who voted Congress in last elections is equally livid. He thinks Congress allowed commies to rape women, and he said “why should I vote for a party that is encouraging terrorist killings by pandering to Islamists and funding citizens for pieces?”
Judging by the reactions, it seems all parties are going to lose votes. Commies and Congies will be the hardest hit. The guy at the commie election office told me that they would recruit any commie blogger as election agents for them. Desperate. Bleak scene.
I am waiting to be branded a commie..
Ot,
How is your Malayalee or some other friends thinking/voting in Bengal or Kerala gonna affect the average voter in Bangalore?
And did you say Bengal and Kerala, the two states where we will most likely get the grand sum of zero seats? versus Karnataka where getting 25 seats should be our goal?
