Manish Tiwari accentuates Rahul Gandhi’s ignorance

Rahul Gandhi’s spin meisters in the Congress are clearly losing it in.

If last weekend they tried to spin away Rahul Gandhi’s ignorance as innocence, his middle age notwithstanding, this weekend they just accentuated why Rahul Gandhi is the Congress’ achilees heel.

Trying to match word for word with Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Narendra Modi, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari made a fool of himself with this retort (for those disputing the transcript here is the video)

Congress national spokesperson Manish Tiwari hitting out after Modi’s jab at Rahul said, “It’s true that Narendra Modi is from ocean but he is a ‘piranha

Manish Tiwari’s smart-ass retort would have carried its zing but for a simple problem – the piranha are fresh water fish and not ocean fish.

The fishmarket verbal brawl is the least of the Congress’ problem.

The bigger problem for the Congress is that for someone who claims to have studied “Development Economics”, Rahul Gandhi with his  juvenile rhetoric on “Corporate Culture” seems to match Mayawati’s intellect.

One is yet to hear anything intellectually substantial from Rahul Gandhi raising  serious questions on his competence and of what Mr. Manish Tiwari calls the grooming in Congress Culture of Young Leaders.

  4. Dosabandit says:

With nothing to show for Rahul’s leadership, the servile Congress salesmen are reduced to marketing his non-existent ‘youthful charm’ that supposedly ‘bowls’ over the young. And that apparently is enough to qualify him for our PM.

Let the congis explain as to why their icon of youth, the prime minister in waiting, does not appear on TV discussing national issues? I can’t remember a single occasion when Raul Vinci has ever appeared on a TV interview or a debate.

The Manu Singhvis and the Tiwaris have to most unenviable task of propping up someone who probably has less personality and effectiveness than a scarecrow!

They know it, and it is a pity that they can’t choose to do otherwise.

The most important part of the Tiwary retort that this post has made out to be is ” Yes, NM is from ocean but he is a piranha” The statement is not supported by TOI & Rediff who have the statement as “”If Rahul is a fish in the aquarium, then Modi is a piranha who devours human beings.” But never mind such intellectual meanderings.

It would have been equally silly if someone from Cong sounding equally intellectual had said “NM has said Rahul from acquarium. But the problem is that fish from acquariums do not go around in the country. They stay cacooned in tone location”…or some such inanity. :) :)

  12. arjun says:

Listening to Modi speak in Goa and making these arguments, it appears that he will be able to puncture the “youth” campaign of Congress. Timesnow has a clip.

The real issue is the UPA’s disastrous governance over the last 5 years and not some priveleged youth trying to perpetuate a dynasty.

ELM can debate and twist whichever way they want, but my guess is that Modi will make an impact on the ground.

I get a feeling that Tiwari got his marine biology wrong. Piranhas don’t dwell in seas or oceans. They are mostly found in rivers of Latin America, and they don’t consume humans. Piranhas are known to be extremely shy, too.

Whereas small fishes usually stick to groups for survival. Rahul’s groupies fare well on that count.

  15. gujjuman says:

manish tiwari is most irritating person I have seen in my life.
How did that buffoon became spokesperson of congress party,,, or may be congress party has really fallen to level that it has to appoint buffoon.

  16. Ram Jan says:

@14..thats very true socal. Piranhas are mostly found in Amazon river basin. The English speaking, liberal extremists always exhibit this foolish trait. The statements they make in heavy , fancy English may attract only the like minded ones but the statements that Modi made will definitely reach the hearts of one and all.

  17. yossarin says:

Manish Tiwari gets his marine biology from Phantom comics thats the problem

  18. DRV says:

Rahul Gandhi took David Miliband for slum tourism to show the real India. Possibly he would have told Miliband, see my dynasty right from my great-grandfather have ensured in the last 60 yrs that India remains in the same state and nothing changes since you firangis left. They have maintained India at the same high standards of poverty as were when British were around, so that firang baba-logs like Miliband and Boyle, with the help of Indian baba-logs like Rahul Gandhi and Anil Kapoor can come and enjoy some slum-tourism or make movies taking India’s poverty to the drawing rooms of the western world.

As in our own house we do discuss problems and find solutions internally and not on the streets discussing with outsiders, the same applies to the motherland as well. This is because while internally we have a genuine urge to root out the problem, externally, from a foreign eye it becomes a subject of ridicule and unpleasant curiosity. Even an aam-admi and the firang baba-logs know this rule (which they practice at their own homes with their issues) , but not the desi-baba logs, one of who may end up ruling this country.

It is very unfortunate that Indian media and the Congress project him as India’s future PM. This gentleman tailing Miliband and showcasing India’s poverty was a really shameful and pathetic sight . Has someone even given him basic education on cultural / moral values and national pride ?

And then when people try to put him in the same rival category as Modi , seems they are their biggest enemies .

NaMo has made India proud by his karma , 24 hr bijli to villages , Narmada water for the poor, billions of dollars as investment in Gujarat, generating lakhs of jobs. NaMo has made India and Gujarat proud .The firangis want to come to Gujarat not for slum tourism or mock at India but to believe in the development miracle they have heard of , which NaMo has bought , and to be a part of that success story by investing in Gujarat.

NaMo has been generous to such people by considering them as a small fish , they rather are macchars , parasites who have been sucking out the health of this nation for dynasties.

  19. yossarin says:

Suyash – Sorry buddy Manish Tiwari’s underdeveloped intellect from reading Juvenile Fiction is on tape thanks to TimesNow here is the video

I have nothing against him and his buddy Rahul Gandhi forming their world view from reading Phantom Comics as long as it is in play school.

  20. Narayan says:

Rahul’s Slum tourism in his own dynasty’s “family silver” constituency should be effectively made a campaign subject in UP by BJP.

  21. Nishka says:

poor piranhas. They are really quite shy. You can actually swim with them (no scratches pls).
Tonight, India will be pimped at the Oscars (like a freak) by the same colonialists (British) who brought her to that level. They are still making money off of India through displaying the poverty that they reduced this great culture too.
Of course the chamchas like Dev Patel, Frieda, A. R. Rahman (so disappointed) and Anil Kapoor will be there to give credence to this freak show.
We’ve have several documentaries in India making us aware of the issues. Those are greatly appreciated. “Slumdog Millionaire” is a totally different ballgame. It is a “not so subte” effort by the colonialists/vatican to denigrate and prostitute our dear country
I am so upset by this sellout that I suggest a quiet boycott of all these individuals. I will not be creating a petition or making a noise but for sure
    - will not watch any of their movies
    - Will not listen to the music
    - Will not buy a product endorsed by these chamchas (does anyone know what products Anil Kapoor endorses)
    - Will not be watching the bloody Oscars

I suggest that all those who feel strongly about this pimping do the same to whatever degree possible.

  22. Suyash says:

I saw the link…..and still did not see the line….”It’s true that Narendra Modi is from ocean”. The lines were “As far as NM saying that he is from the ocean and RG from an aquarium, I can only add that he is a piranha”. Not quite the same thing…in fact quite different if one understands the tone & tenor of English language.

Oh just as an aside, it has been some time since I last read a Phantom comic, but I am reasonably sure that the piranhas there too inhabit in a fresh water “river” which guards access of Phantoms abode-Eden !! Time to revisit? :)

  23. yossarin says:

Slight problem buddy, see my tweet, the phiranhas are found only in the Amazon and not in Africa, you see there are limits to how much knowledge one can gain from reading Phantom comics.

  24. Suyash says:

True…and so far as I could understand….the retort had no mention of “location” of Piranhas, either Amazon or Africa….or is the arguement now that since piranha’s are only found in Amazon, how can NM be a piranha when he is in Gujarat???

  25. yossarin says:

Suyash – you are missing the point. The myth that phiranas can devour human beings has its origins in Phantom comics which got both the nature of phirana and their geography wrong. So one can forgive Mr. Tiwari if he got his marine biology wrong for his Juvenile Fictional source was unreliable to begin with.

  26. Suyash says:

Piranha’s are not attackers by nature I know…but that doesn’t mean they are harmless. They like meat. And if provoked can devour humans…may not be whole…but considerably. Though their vicious nature is exaggerated, they can be dangerous to humans.

  28. Sud says:

Speaking of Phantom comics, Lee Falk apparently wanted to base the comics in Bengal (the ‘Denkali Bay’ in the Phantom comics actually is a pervertion to the Bay of Bengal). That wannabee Kipling thought Bangal hosts the ‘pygmy bandars’ and piranha too, apparently.

  29. Sud says:

    A new look at the slumdawg’s flaws…

However, the real problem with Slumdog is not its shallow, impressionistic portrayal of poverty. Its real problem is that it grossly minimizes the capabilities and even the basic humanity of those it claims to speak for. It is no secret that large chunks of Slumdog are meant to reflect life in Dharavi, the 213-hectare spread of slums at the heart of Mumbai. The film’s depiction of the legendary area, which is home to some one million people, is that of a feral wasteland, with little evidence of order, community or compassion.

Other than the children (the “slumdogs”), no one is even remotely well-intentioned. Hustlers, thieves, and petty warlords run amok, and even Jamal’s schoolteacher, a thin, bespectacled man who introduces him to The Three Musketeers, is inexplicably callous. This is a place of evil and decay, of a raw, chaotic tribalism.

Yet nothing could be further from the truth. Dharavi teems with dynamism and creativity, and is a hub of entrepreneurial activity, in industries such as garment manufacturing, embroidery, pottery, and leather, plastics and food processing. It is estimated that the annual turnover from Dharavi’s small businesses is between $50 and $100 million (U.S.).

Dharavi’s lanes are lined with cellphone retailers and cyber cafés and, according to surveys by Microsoft Research India, the slum’s residents exhibit a remarkably high absorption of new technologies.

Governing structures and productive social relations also flourish. The slum’s residents have nurtured strong collaborative networks, often across potentially volatile lines of caste and religion. Many cooperative societies work together with grassroots associations to provide residents with essential services such as basic health care, schooling and waste disposal, and to tackle thorny issues such as child abuse and violence against women.

In fact, they often compensate for the formal government’s woeful inadequacy in meeting the needs of the poor. Although it is true that these severely under-resourced self-help organizations have touched only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, it is important to acknowledge their efforts, along with the simple fact that these communities, despite their grinding poverty, have rich, valuable lives, a resourcefulness that stretches far beyond the haphazard and purely individualistic sort portrayed in the film.

We can be sure that the mainstream dhimmedia will print oceans of newsprint quoting Moanish Tiwari’s rejected speeches as investigative scoops (poops?).

Modi is taking the battle to the bankrupt congrease fort and the congeese are aflutter with trepidation. Essentially leaderless coz their putative leader Raul Vinci hides behind their skirts rather ‘innocently’ than lead from the front….

Wonder how the vernaculars are covering Modi’s forays….The local channels? local vernacular newsprint? posters and hoardings?

  31. Sud says:

    Achcha,

This is an amazing development. Modi does not shoot his mouth off.

  34. Janpar Mallai says:

Guys, I am extremely concerned about BJP’s pathetic stance in front of its allies…this is turning from a “Party with a difference” to a “Party with no backbone”

JD(U) – Demanding extra seats in Bihar, including Shahnawaz Hussain’s seat!!! The good thing is the BJP is absolutely not accomodating them Jharkhand, UP or Karnataka. I think the only just cause is to destroy their remaining base outside of Bihar.
BJD – Yes, now Naveen Patnaik is convinced he is emperor, and the BJP has done nothing to stop him in this. Not only did it never demand a Deputy CM’s post, it has turned Orissa into one state where the BJP’s presence in urban areas is negligible.
SAD – Is the life support to the Akali’s, but has allowed beta to become Deputy CM, has let the SAD corner all the RS seats, the speaker’s post, and has not gotten a single concession for Lok Sabha.
SS – The party has seen its leaders fleeing right and left, but it still thinks that it should contest MORE seats with a reduced base (Rane faction, Raj Thackeray factions gone)

If the BJP is seated in the opposition in 2009:
    1) Withdraw support to Nitish Kumar
    2) Withdraw support to Naveen Patnaik
    3) Contest the Maharashtra elections separately, unless Sena gives in to a demand of BJP contesting more tha 50% of seats.
    4) Threaten to withdraw support from the Badal’s, unless: Deputy CM to the BJP, and the RS seats in Punjab to the BJP, and 1/3 of all ministries. Else, time to cut the ropes.
    5) Let Advani retire. Hold an election among LS MP’s for leader of the opposition.

These developments are bound to enhance Modi’s ’secular’ image tarnished by his opponents.

  39. Sudhir says:

I am bit disappointed with Modi. Why should Modi respond to clowns like Raul Vinci aka Rahul Gandhi.

Whatever Rahul utters is only meant for the media and Suyash. If he was really concerned about the diamond workers of Gujarat he should have done something by now. Everytime a question on economy comes up the present government seems to have pre-taped replies like “It is a global problem” or “Fundamentals of our economy are strong” or “Indian economy will withstand this storm”. Yes Indian economy will – INSPITE OF YOU. And somehow in Gujarat Modi is responsible. Maybe Suyash has some logic.

The anointed one takes a foreign diplomat his constituency to show him the poverty in his constituency. This act deserves the ugliest and dirtiest pink underwear. If people are poor in your constituency then it is you failure idiot. Instead he celebrates his failure by displaying it to the world.

And as far as Manish Tiwari, his job security hinges on Modi. (maybe he prays for Modis well being everyday).
After VGIS 09 this fellow was there on IBNLIVE and he was shouting that VGIS 07 has been a failure because only 24% of the promised investment has been converted to actual investment. Somebody tell this great statistician that 24% of $120 Billion is $28.8 billion.

  40. arjun says:

Modi and the BJP have to respond to Congress campaign theme of “youth” power. Congress has made it one of their campaign issue.

BJP has to counter that and provide talking points to their cadre and supporters. That is what Modi is doing.

BJP’s gameplan is to covert the yoouth card into a privileged few card. If you listen to Modi’s speech, it appears pretty convincing.

  41. arjun says:

Manish Tiwari seems to another one of the “malai khane vane log” (as Modi calls them) in Congress.

  42. Sudhir says:

    Arjun,

As far as the youth is concerned the anointed one is not in the prime ministerial race. Manmohan Singh seems to be choice of the Antonia Aka Sonia. So now in the battle of ages, Manmohan has far more health problems than Advani. So tell the youth this.

By replying to Raul I think BJP is giving him importance, creating an impression that he really someone. That too when it comes from Modi it makes a huge difference. (This is my personal view I may be wrong)

I watched the video by Arun Shourie posted by Yoss in the “Today’s YouTube Pick” section. I think what he said in the speech will give enough explosive to the cadre. (+ some local level issues)

  43. arjun says:

Sudhir, you are right in a way since talking about him raises his importance.
LKA asked party cadre to ignore him.

However, BJP can’t ignore him beyond a point since the Congress run media will create a larger than life image for him. He has to be attacked before that happens.

  44. SKy says:

I’m fed up with the mushy mushy babalog we’ve had .. Rajiv, Rahul and surely Maneka’s son in the future. Before criticising Rahul, BJP must look at itself – supporting SAD, SS, .. Although this is an electoral necessity, why the heck do we see Pramod Mahajan’s daughter in the party? How qualified is she? Her only degree – being related to Mahajan-Munde duo.
Had Mahajan’s son not been caught in the huge drug scandal, I’m certain even he’d got a party ticket.

How about the kith & kin of all in BJP be forced to do say, 15 yrs social service / build the grassroots cadre / compulsorily join sangh before getting a chance to fight elections?

  45. Mayuresh Gaikwad says:

One big nonsense that Manish Tiwari said in the same reaction was”

    http://www.dailypioneer.com/158398/‘Congmen-are-aquarium-fish’.html

I think this ought to be ripped apart for what it is. NaMo himself is an OBC, grew up in a village, went to a Govt. school and knows fully well, all the hardships faced by the Indian poor as he himself was one. Neither NaMo nor any of his forefathers had the good fortune of being educated at Doon or Oxbridge unlike the stupid son of an Italian.

  46. Ram Jan says:

My dear die hard con-gress fan SKy….learn to think straight…Raul baba is being projected a a Prime Ministerial candidate and what are Mahajans contesting for , if at all ?.

There are many dedicated party workers and also many eligible seniors but going by your logic I think they should prove that they are from same catholic denomination as maino’s or atleast anti hindu, Indian culture in whatever possible way before they can get what they deserve.

She is starting from BJP Youth Wing’s Maharashtra state unit.

BTW She is qualified enough for to be part of state’s youth wing as she is a nice orator.

This compared to Congress Party’s General Secretary post.

I guess SKy likes Raul Vinci ? I guess Kangressis have his poster on their walls.

  49. Jiggs says:

I personally feel it is beyond the stature, aura of the BJP top leadership to get into any kind of verbatim with Raul or Manish BIMARI or CON gress.

I was hopping mad at NaMo when he issued that explanation on the LOCAL LINK remark he made at Nagpur, I kept on asking why should he give an explanation? For speaking the truth or above all using his common sense?

You are not correct on bengal. People, you mentioned, are most vocal supporter of CPIM in recent time, because they have to be the closer to CPIM to do any business and they are doing it by vocal support and even by voting them. Mamta is not good for their purpose.
Mamta is not in the congress trap, she does not have any alternative because of huge muslim elctorate. She may take lesson from Nitish kumar, but at first she has to win once with the help from anybody. BJP is not good in bengal, even they do not able to catch the higher class of society.

BJP does not take bengal seriously and will not take it seriously till LKA is in control. Namo might be, but I have not seen much enthuaism from him on WB, Hope center leadership will awake soon.

  52. trupti_inlaw says:

I too agree with points made by Jiggs and Sudhir that too much importance is given to Rahul. It should be countered by talking about MMS’ s age and health . I will never forget that ridiculous day. Is this what the aam aadmi gets from a leader? My advice is Rahulji please get married soon so that you can keep the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty alive for another 100 years.

CAG nails the lie on Govt’s `aam aadmi’ claims

According to reports, UPA government has fallen short of expectations and many of its schemes like NREGS (national rural employment generation schemes) are reported to be anything but dismal in all senses.
Bharat Nirman project, the government’s flagship scheme, was essentially to improve infrastructure (bijli-sadak-paani), housing, and expand telephone network.
But records show a different picture of the government’s loud claims.
Even in key areas like ‘bijli-sadak-paani’ achievements has been nothing but poor, if one goes by the governments replies to the queries put forward by the MPs in the ongoing parliament session.
With hardly any time left for the announcement of the general election dates, Prime Minister Manmohan Sing was reportedly upset with the report card at a recent meeting to review UPA flagship schemes.
According to reports, government’s own official auditor, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has raised an alarm asking the government to find how much of the Rs51,000 crore for the Bharat Nirman projects in 2007-08 have actually been spend.

  58. prashant says:

According to a leading newspaper report, the funds to the tunes of Rs3000 crores in those two years were diverted from infrastructure development into the kitties of some NGOs, cultural organizations and spend for celebrations.
When CAG asked for clarification, the government washed its hands off saying that it was not really aware of the actual expenditure of the things done with the money transferred to the bank accounts of NGOs, autonomous bodies and district authorities

Guys there is no point debating what Modi should be talking. He knows his job better than us.

We should make a complete report on UPA’s performance on various fronts,

There is no point in highlighting the failures, negative campaigning can backfire. But voters should be made aware of actual facts. If we can compare it and contrast it with NDA’s performance, this will be even more credible.

Info can be gathered from press reports and figures released by govt. departments, but will also need use of RTI,

Such efforts may have little influence on aam aadmi, but it’ll help educated voters make informed decisions.

Let good orators carry on with emotional campaigning, facts based campaign can happen in the back end.

    What say you?

We need proof from Rahul gandhi about his education!
He visits a Dalit house and feels very sorry from them, but doesn’t he know that Congress has ruled over this nation for nearly 50 years and congress is responsible for poor people’s plight!
    Ask him that question!

  62. Vasuki says:

The congress party with the help of media is trying indirectly to equate Rahul Gandhi with other brave sons of the soil. First they tried it with Obama, then they stopped it probably after finding Obama was very smart in Academics. Then they shifted it to Advaniji and Modiji. Any citizen of this country will be at least 50 % smarter than Rahul Gandhi for sure.
Or let him come for an open debate with the public and prove it!!!

  63. allahraakha says:

    Hehe.
No wonder you smart asses couldn’t see the pun there. Its a equate – the guy who replied back did not bother whether he talks of piranha in ocean or whether or not piranha’s eat human. Whatever said, piranha’s are meat loving – like just what modi is. if you still can’t see the connect, probably you got to read english literature and understand what analogies are and how deductions could be made with rhetoric remarks which could be unintentionally directed towards driving an alarming truth!

  64. birju says:

It seems he was interacting with some students in Gujarat, when somebody asked about infiltration from Bangladesh, first he fumbled than said, it’s been going on for 300 years. Bangladesh is not even 50 yet..
OMG this guy has power to choose the PM,

  65. venkatesh says:

    Guys,

On Rahul Gandhi – it is clear he does not have the confidence to face people and their questions. The article below is a good idea of how he is being conducted. He is just a guy who is good for waving to people and smiling and will not indulge in impromptu discussions with anyone. He will read speeches and is being ‘protected’ from the electorate. if this guys is a mascot to win young and educated people, the BJP should be organising discussions for him. He will make the BJP point even more precisely. I like the way the BJP campaign is shaping up. I have a sneaking suspicion, they will do much better than everyone expects.

  70. banupriya says:

Someone please send this manish tiwari to space ,often he apinks he appears in the T.V and scares us..He thinks that he s a great debator but watever he speaks s bull shit and irrelevant ,we can really understand the level of congress party by making this stupid as their spokesperson..
