EAS Sarma rips Navin Chawla’s Credibility

Dr. EAS Sarma, a retired bureaucrat and a man of impeccable integrity and credibility has gone on record on why Navin Chawla was unfit for Constitutional Office and should be removed.

The Siasat reports from Vizag, AP:

Mr. Sarma recalled that he had written a letter to the then President A.P.J Abdul Kalam on April 6, 2006, in which he stated that Mr. Chawla should step down from the high office following certain allegations.

In a letter to Ms. Patil, he said Mr. Chawla’s decision (not to quit gracefully) was indeed a dangerous trend that would have long-term adverse implications.

Asked to comment on the allegations, he said there was an allegation that Mr. Chawla was associated with a trust which took funds from Congress MPs under MPLAD.

On the timing of the report, he said it might have taken time for the CEC to enquire into allegations of bias.

The former Union Secretary told Ms. Patil in the letter that Mr. Gopalaswami had submitted a report to her office on the desirability of not allowing Mr. Chawla as a member of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on the ground that some of his acts within the Commission were found to be politically- biased.

He also welcomed the CEC’s recommendations that to ensure the process of appointment of the members of the ECI more broad-based and transparent, it was necessary to bar retiring members ECI from joining political parties or other offices for at least 10 years after their retirement.

Referring to divided opinion on interpreting Article 324 (5) of Constitution, he said: “To my mind, going strictly by the wording and the spirit of Article 324, there is absolutely no bar on the CEC expressing his views and making recommendations to the President on the subject.

There were several complaints from different quarters against the continuation of Mr. Chawla and the CEC was bound to investigate the same and offer his point of view.”
Credibility

He said Mr. Gopalaswami had evidently raised other important issues that would have far-reaching implications for the credibility and non-partisan nature of ECI – to appoint members of ECI by a committee comprising the presiding officers of the two Houses of Parliament, the Prime Minister and one leader from the ruling political party and two leaders from the main Opposition parties.

Parliament by law should bar a retiring member of the ECI from joining any political party or accepting any office, public or private, that is likely to cast doubts on the high office of ECI, he added.

These kind of true articles never become popular in the media. Those media houses are picking on Manglore attack and ignored this Chawla issue completely. Just 2 days ago these media houses were tarnishing Mr Gopalaswami’s image by making baseless accusations, now they have realized that people are with Mr. Gopalaswami, so they have changed the subject to manglore pub attacks.
As an Educated Indian I can tolerate tarnishing a political person’s image by the media but can never accept tarnishing the image of very few upright people in INDIA like MR. GOPALASWAMI. I am sure many of you are also pained by this.

  2. Dosabandit says:

The Congress stands exposed. Appointing Chawla as the EC was completely inappropriate in the first place. Plant stooges all over, weaken every institution and subvert democracy, that’s the ‘aam aadmi’s’ Congress for you.

  3. AK says:

So we have a rubber stamp Congress high command approved President. We are all set to get another Congress stooge Mr. Navin Chawla as the CEC. Now only remains the Supreme Court. Has that body been breached too? This will complete the subjugation of all the free-thinking bodies in India and even if the BJP takes this matter to the highest authority, it will get thrown out. Is there any hope that free and fair general elections will be held in the coming months? Or will we be living in a pseudo-dictatorship soon?

  4. Ravindranath says:

the so called president is itself a national shame. An ugly and corrupt women. It is ridiculous if CEC expects her to do something!

‘Dynamic Modi to match young Rahul’s charisma’

Guj CM heads BJP’s panel for LS campaign

    S Balakrishnan | TNN

Mumbai: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has been effectively elevated to the No. 2 slot in the BJP in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, sources in the party told TOI.
Modi, who enjoys full support of the RSS, has been made the chairman of a core group that will lead the campaign across the country. Besides Modi, the group comprises BJP president Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar.
This Team BJP has been formed to project a dynamic image of the organization. “We realised we will not be able to make a substantial impact, especially among the youth, by projecting only L K Advani. In fact, the fatigue factor has set in as far as Advani is concerned, as he has been overexposed to the people and the media over the past 30 years. While the Congress will be projecting a young Rahul Gandhi, we would have projected an 83-year-old Advani. So, we’ve put up a team that makes the BJP look like a party with several dynamic and youthful leaders,” a party insider said.
The RSS feels that Modi, with his image as a staunch Hindutva supporter and his track record as a good administrator, will be able to garner Hindu votes and rope in support from India Inc. Already, two top industrialists—Anil Ambani and Sunil Mittal—have publicly stated their choice of Modi as PM. Ratan Tata, too, has lauded Modi’s administrative capabilities.
Meanwhile, senior BJP activist Piyush Goyal has floated a new forum called Friends of BJP (FoB) with an eye on professionals and young entrepreneurs. Last week, a gathering of over 200 bankers, techies and businessmen gathered in Mumbai and decided to mobilise support for the BJP. The meeting was presided over by Rajesh Jain, managing director of Netcore Solutions. Advani’s daughter Pratibha interacted with the audience, but dampened the enthusiasm by declaring that she wasn’t a member of the BJP.
Goyal, son of the late BJP veteran Ved Prakash Goyal, said similar meetings have already been held in Delhi, Kolkata and other cities. “The BJP has a tremendous goodwill among professionals and young businessmen. We are trying to translate this into votes,” he said.

  7. NK says:

Whatever it is folks, we got to give it to Congress guys. If they are able to install Chawla as the CEC, then subversion of democracy will be complete.

Congress managed to subvert all democratic institutions:
    1) PMO – installed a puppy as the PM (who ironical is supposed to be a Sardar).
    2) Rashtrapati Bhawan – not supporting APJ Kalam for 2nd term, instead installed a second puppy in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
    3) Parliament – managed to break SP from left to subvert confidence vote in Parliament. Also managed LS speaker to scuttle the probe in to cash-for-vote scam.
    4) Election commission – coming installation of 3rd puppy in Election Commission (throwback to the pre-TN Sheshan days).

They managed this with a pliable media, manipulating left by playing on their deep aversion of BJP (support us to keep the BJP out). Indian democracy is dead at least for the time being. We are practically now a banana republic. But, I have faith in Karma. It will get them ultimately.

  8. drummasala says:

There is a poll on NDTV.com which asks: Will 26/11 affect the verdict of 2009 Lok Sabha elections?

    Yes : 62.43%
    No : 35.15%
    Can’ say : 2.42%

If this is the indication, then I think UPA will be voted out. But you still never know Indian voter.

  9. Ravindra says:

As regards the legal luminaries who have been questioning the CEC’s timing of the report, you will observe these are Padma awardees during the UPA regime. heh heh… so one can go on ascribing motives…

Abhishek Manu Singhvi was insinuating that Gopalaswami has links with the BJP. If he really has the guts, why doesnt the Congress take him on head-on like the BJP has done in the case of Navin Chawla?

Meanwhile, listen to Mulayam khan Yadav:

“Both Lal Krishna Advani and Narendra Modi are aspiring for the post of Prime Minister and SP will do everything possible to prevent them from realising their dream”

Source: DNA, Tuesday 3rd Feb, Page 10 (Mumbai edition)

They will do everything possible – including subverting institutions that is. Just sums up the attitude of the “Secular” brigade!

  10. R.V. says:

Congressmen and women are so clever and cunning they will wrap India around their little fingers.BJP is a babe in the wood. Congress lost in 1996, they will see to it they will never again lose power in Delhi.Fortunately they are aided by an inept BJP. So, friends, be realistic. Think of keeping Congress out ( so you can at least keep that deleterious dynasty at bay)not BJP in, even if it means supporting Mayawati.Else Gandhi-Nehru dynastic rule will go on for a couple of decades more. Future of India ? It is in the laps of the gods.

  11. Puneet says:

If you cannot attack the content of an allegation (because it is true), attack its intent. This has always been the philosophy of the Congress(I) and their propaganda machines, the media, and this time also its no different.

The bottom line is that the Congress(I) is anti-democracy and thereby anti-people and anti-national. There is no democracy within its own party and thus its own members and well wishers have no respect for democratic norms and institutions and are hell bent on eroding them. These attempts to subvert the will of the people, and rule them against their wishes, more so by crook than by hook, is what is actually the “Talibanization of India”- not what some stupid people do in an obscure pub in some remote corner of the country. This is real and is happening all around us.

  12. prashant says:

Mr.N,Ram Eminent Editor has read the content of letter written by CEC as it seems from his editorial….

so why not THE HINDU publish the letter of CEC and fulfill his Dharma.

There is neither legal nor logical basis to support the allegations being made against CEC, N. Gopalaswamy. My take on the matter:

In the l’afaire Chawla, the loathsome Indian MSM is descending to newer depths even if one were to judge it by its own absymal record of sycophantic services to Gandhee dynasty

We already had seen the ugly spectacle of two erstwhile election commissioners( overbearing Seshan Iyer and that disgraceful M.S Gill ) join the Congress party after their tenure in the election commission.James Michael Lyndogh was also seen participating in internal political affairs of Congress party. Not a word on the shameful conduct of these pliant Kangressi bureaucrats has been uttered by the Padma Shri/Padma Bhushan winning worthies of media during the current contoversy .HIghlighting it would mean that public opinion will see enough substance in BJP’s charges that politically biased EC can later be rewarded for his faithful services

Chawla has been indicted for running torture cells (at the behest of his Congress political masters during emergency) where dissenters were brutally tortured.Ofcourse the Indian left liberal intelligenstia in tandem with the mullahs can be seen organising protest against Guantanamo Bay but not against our own indigenous gestapo masters if they are elevated to constitutional positions

More than anything what is utterly shocking is media playing the Congress game by accusing Gopalswai of political bias.Infact this upright official has made strong recommendation that EC’S should be barred from holding any political post or government jobs after their retirement

That the media was seriously compromised was evident when a dubious ,petty political operator with possibly criminal antecedents was installed as president of this country(remember that pompous Barkha accusing BJP of possibly orchestrating false charges against that financially delinquent lady)

The shameful silence over the real nature of charges against Chawla and seeking to reduce it as BJP campaign clearly demonstartes that media has been clearly purchased

    Off-topic : time for a ‘right’ TV channel ?

though this topic has come up many times in the comments section of this blog, Yoss – do you have any info of any attempts being done in this regard ?

is it time that all right wing orgs / supporting industrialists think on this ?
is it a funding issue or do we lack intellectuals ?

    or
is it not a matter of urgency at all ?

will just a 2 months election campaign alone will counter the 24×7 p-sec MSM ?

just one channel (well organised) would do a lot of difference..
I don’t believe all these cries in blogs/internet would have any effect at all..

A whole range of tactics and strategies have been formulated to achieve that objective. And oh haven’t they made a great success of that. All media vehicle have been captured. Indian people get to hear only ant-Hindu news, views and information. We have talked for long about Hindu media. But has anything been done ? Probably nothing. Even those who can do something. T.R.Jawahar, TVR Shenoy, S Gurumoorthy, Subbramaniam Swamy……So there it is. we are not sufficiently outraged. We just keep beating our breasts. Our enemies have cut the ground from our feet. I feel very sad to say that, but we have lost the war. I am in my 60s. I may not live to see that, but my sons and grandsons will live to see a very non-Hindu India. Media and Bollywood have already shown the trend.

They also told that our swayme saveks are there in almost all the fields of media. I failed to convince them the coming dangers thru media on Hindus in great slumber.
Our politicians have become perfect dhimmies. Media has totaly been purchased & become slave to congress and communists. It sings songs of muslims and missionaries for congs and commies. RV has said very aptly that the whole effort is to dehinduise Hindusthan as soon as possible, and by hook or crook. Hindus lost thier furtile lands to muslims also,Pakistan & Bangladesh, and yet are still slave and are being hated in thiere own country. If you go to his residence, he won’t even offer you a glass of water. He may even eat in front of you without offering you anything,” a close friend said. This attitude is more because of a give-nothing-take-nothing principle than anything else, insiders say.

    Hey Guys,
Life has never been fair to the ones who trust others to think for them. Unfortunately the vast majority of human kind is simplistic in thought, trusting of their mentors and blind followers of what is passed down from generation to generation. Traditionalists. But not many try to find out why. Because “CHANGE” is the most difficult thing to accept. Yet, CHANGE IS THE ONLY CONSTANT in this world.

The real cause of fundamentalism is RESISTANCE TO CHANGE; even if it means living in the style of miserable middle ages in the Middle East; or the European continent (Vikings/ Tudors etc.). They continue to blindly follow the barbaric ways of stoning people to death, chopping one’s hands and fingers or whipping someone with leather straps till the skin is whipped off one’s back for ‘crimes’ that many of those dispensing the punishment themselves may have committed but were lucky not to be caught.

Politicians know this trait well and continue to glorify the past; to perpetuate hidebound beliefs; and for political reasons either remain silent or down-play barbaric acts of misguided people who tend to highjack our cultural ethos.

Hinduism is known for its progressive ways; where everyone is free to think and act as long as it does not harm anyone else; essentially to experiment with truth. Wasn’t the Charavak philosophy an experiment in itself, that lost out to the more logical thought of a more permanent nature of one’s soul, the ‘atma’ .

If only the politicians propound the true values of Hinduism and courageously denounce Talibanisation of Hinduism, Hinduism will shine as the only sensible way of life for all mankind in the present times; and will march ever forward in glory. We cannot just talk of the past glory; but show through our deeds that we are adding to its glory by adopting newer ways that allow greater freedom of thought and action to all humankind; that includes WOMEN who, incidentally were more free in the Hindu past than they have been after the advent and influence of a series of invaders from the middle east a thousand years ago; and, later, imposition of the Victorian values by the British.

But then, do the politicians really want true uplift of the downtrodden and restoration of true Hinduism? This cannot happen till the greed for power and pelf rules the minds of professional politicians.

    Hello
It seems that the Christian stand point is more arrogant and dogmatic than the Hindu view.
Also Hinduism seems to have hope and more good deeds.
    This is just my opionion.
    James

    2. My Take:
Jim: The Christian view point is more arrogant because, Christianity is over-loaded with ideology. In fact, Christianity is an ideology, not a religion at all. But it is so well-disguised as a religion, that most people do not notice it.

    3. Christianity cannot succumb to the fairness-doctrine of a dialogue, it would rather have a monologue. This is because it ( Christianity ) is convinced that it has a monopoly on truth. Consequently, it is in no meed to hold a dialogue, with any type of Paganism, and Hinduism certainly is a Pagan religion.

    4. Because Christianity believes that Hindu view point is false, it is not at all interested in knowing, the other side of the argument, the Hindu argument, no matter how legitimate the Hindu argument is, Christianity wants to completely shut down all Pagan Values, Hinduism included.

    5. It can be correctly deduced that, this Christian attitude is intolerant, and highly-hypocritical. There is nothing open-minded about it.

Strike # 2. Our Hindu leadership during the last 1200 years, has been Rotten, it still is Rotten. It does not have what it takes, to do the job of Hinduism-Defense, let alone the job of strengthening Hinduism. It:

Strike # 3: Ninety percent of our Hindu Holy Men ( HHMs ) are Nakame ( worse than useless ). They have no idea of what, is going on in the world. They:
Do Not Know Which End Is Up

    4. Yanks say:

Three Striles And You Are Out.

But there is a Fourth-Strike because, there are Hindus out there, who are willing to do for Hinduism, what has never been done before. Conventional methods ( that is, methods that have been tried during the last 1200 years, have not worked for us Hindus.). Un-Conventional methods need to roll out, not only to save Hinduism, but also to buttress it.

    5. I am making myself ready, to go to any city any where in the world ( New York, Boston, San Francisco, London, Paris, Berlin, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, or any other city ), where I can find at least 50 Hindus who are ” Determined ” to defend & buttress Hinduism, to explain my Un-Conventional technique, and get it going Immediately. That is my goal.

    6. Shri Buju Jee:
I am somewhat mystified by your name. Is your name Buju or Dylan Thomas ?
