At the time of writing this post 2:30am IST, the War on Mumbai continues unabated.
It is unclear when it will be over and if it will be over anytime soon and at what cost.
More than 80 killed, hundreds injured, ATS Chief Hemant Karkare has fallen but more importantly confidence in the Indian State has been shattered.
For years now laments by this blog and many others have fallen on deaf ears of the Manmohan Singh Sonia Gandhi lead UPA dispensation.
In a brazen act of shamelessness and crass opportunism the Prime Minister had the audacity to put up the pretense of acting against terror and even when he did so he did not “order it” he did not make a decisive announcement of taking executive action.
Instead he reminded us of the spineless wimp that he is with merely making a “suggestion”.
When the post mortem of the War on Mumbai is conducted it will be incomplete if it didnt look into how the Government and the media lost perspective from the unfinished war in their eagerness to draw moral equivalences and political brownie points.
Offstumped has said this before and will reiterate it again.
The War on Mumbai has exposed the soft underbelly of the Indian State and its Subjects.
The time to talk of investigations or convictions is past us.
The situation demands a moral and national response in the form of an unrelenting and uncompromising Satyagraha against Terrorism.
Such a Satyagraha must begin with urgent and immideate pressure on Governments at all levels to treat this as a War and respond in kind.
Such a Satyagraha must not end till the UPA Government being thrown out of New Delhi and charges of Criminal Negligenece brought against Home Minister Shivraj Patil.

The cancer it seems is now terminal with no cure in sight. With a Government that wont learn from its mistakes nor see the folly of its ways it is no longer enough to to talk of Anti-Terrorism as a policy of the State but to think of Anti-Terrorism as a sustained people’s movement that will be uncompromising and unrelenting.
If Gandhi’s Satyagraha was to fight Terrorism on the people of this nation by the State, by intent, this 21st century Satyagraha is to fight Terrorism on the people of this nation despite the State, by default.
So How would this Satyagraha be unlike the the previous one form the century gone by ?
Gandhi answers it for us very eloquently. Offstumped had posted this Gandhian Doctrine to guide on?responding to Terrorism?several times in the past based on a reading of Gandhi and the Gita where he expounds on the principle of “Desireless Action”. If “Ahimsa” was the mantra for the Satyagraha to battle British Terrorism in the 20th century, “Anasakata” and “Karma” should become the twin mantras for the Satyagraha in this century to battle the twin evils of Terrorism and the State’s indifference to Terrorism.

as India debates its response to terror, it must be purely guided by its primary duty to its citizens and not by any other moral considerations. The State must not take recourse to inaction under the cover of the resilience of its people. More specifically the State when in posession of legitimate intelligence on intentions of terrorist to hurt and kill its citizens must act proactively to pre-empt, such pre-emption is morally consciable for the alternative is willing inaction which is immoral. The state must not rule out going to war against terrorism in fulfilling its duty as long as it does so fully mindful of its consequences and has demonstrated the capacity to accept those consequences with equanimity
So how can we take these principles and apply them to a people’s movement??
The Satyagraha against Terrorism must have the following characteristics.
Characteristic# 1 – It must be unrelenting in the demands it makes of the State to compel it into action on Terrorism pre-emptively or otherwise.
Characteristic# 2 – It must be uncompromising in its intolerance of not just perpetrators of acts of terror but also of those who aid and abet terror by providing sanctuary to those perpetrators.
Characteristic# 3 – It must be self sustaining in its execution through local community action directed at vigilance and audit of local law enforcement
Characteristic #4 – It must be Dharmic at all times by being “desireless” in its actions
A beginning must be made someplace for this Satyagraha against Terrorism to take root. A good starting point could be Bangalore. Of all Indian Cities, Offstumped records the highest traffic from Bangalore. Perhaps Offstumped readers in Bangalore could take the first step.
But to make it national and to have the necessary impact on the State, this Satyagraha requires moral Leadership at the national level. Mr. L.K. Advani has provided that kind of moral leadership in the past in the wake of Jain Hawala scandal by vowing to not seek elected office till he was proven innocent. The situation in the nation demands such a sacrifice once again of Mr. Advani to make this Satyagraha impactful. He must appropriate the moral high ground by vowing to not seek any entitlements from the State including his security cover till this Satyagraha against Terrorism has shamed the Manmohan Singh Government into action.
Offstumped appeals to Mr. Advani to seize the moment and provide that moral leadership to this Satyagraha.

I think Muslims are moving into the Indian political mainstream and slowly rejecting the Lalu’s and Mullah Mulayam’s of the world as shown by the % of the community voting for the BJP in Karnataka and Gujarat, despite them not putting up any Muslim candidates. You have to consider that in the better faith nature of human beings, the actions taking place are being condemned by Most Muslims, especially the younger generation which is less interested in maintaining some rigid community pride and tradition, and more interested in prosperity and happiness. Be a voice for those people so that the votes for the Lalu’s and MSY’s dry up completely, even if Ram Vilas Paswan promises to open a Jihad academy in his constituency and make Bin Laden his Home Minister (I wish I was joking…) It is already evident in the Jammu & Kashmir turn-out that attitudes are changing. It is a delicate balancing act, between reminding that majority that they are part of the mainstream, yet fully taking the actions necessary to investigate all terrorism. I have to be optimistic. Even if you view India’s Muslim population as the “problem”, what is the resolution? We can get all red in the face, but can you expel 154 million people, with all seriousness?
So I simply took a logical stance on the future. If Jihadi is being brainwashed into Muslim youth, the opposing ideology needs to be brainwashed too. Because you can make a border fence, deport illegals, but you can not expel, or kill, or imprison 154 million people. Nonetheless, security measures will have to be there, whether it offends anybody or not. The more Muslims who no longer identify with the rabble-rousing politicians and mullah’s, the better. Do I deny the existence of these “muslim rallies” or that terrorism is rooted in Islamic ideology or that many Indian Muslims still identify with religion first, nation later? Of course not! But constructive solutions are the need of the day.
I also don’t believe in the French philosophy of ghettoization either. I do not believe any good comes out of Muslims making entire areas exclusively “their territory”…it only helps build the Jihadi networks and strengthens their belief that as a community, they are above the law that applies to everyone else.

The only solution to the mulsim problem is to *demand* (and stick to that demand in the face of a persistent storm) that muslims reform islam. That they change the koran to invalidate the war verses. That islamic scripture be opened to scrutiny and criticism.

Massive terror strike in Mumbai kills over 100, injures over 300

Mumbai was woken up by a massive terror strike where terrorists struck simultaneously at 10 different locations. The terrorists used grenades, bombs and automatic weapons. It was a planned strike and almost all counter tactics by Mumbai police were taken into account. Incidently this incident comes just 16 days after Khwaja Hasan Gafoor was appointed as Commissioner, an appointment which was being hailed by Congress since he is a Muslim. Over 200 commandos and army personnel have been rushed to counter this, which is the largest every deployment of its kind. Over 100 people are reportedly dead, including many police officials. Gujarat Police had warned Mumbai about 50 terrorists entering Mumbai but the Chief Minsiter Vilasrao Deshmukh was holidaying in Kerala.
Over 26 locations were targeted. Terrorists are holding several hostages at CST Station, The Oberoi and Taj Mahal Hotel. First strike took place at around 10:30pm at CST. Over 10 people were killed on spot. There was also an explosion in Mazegaon dockyard road. Terrorists also attacked Colaba, Nariman Point, Cama Hospital, Vile Parle (East), Mantralaye, Napensea Road, Metro Cinema and Churchate.
There were over 5 bomb blasts at Taj and the roof of the hotel was on fire. Terrorists were also reportedly holding British and American nationals as hostages in The Oberoi. An eyewitness told that the terrorists were interested in using US and British citizens as hostages.
Narendra Modi also criticized government for undermining Army and calling Lt. Col. Purohit as Hindu terrorist.
Two terrorists were shot dead in Girgaum and reportedly two were apprehended.
The crybabies of Maharashtra, both versions of Shiv Sena, did not react to the blasts still the last reports came in.
Definitely it was sheer negligence on part of Maharastra administration.
NOTE:

I think the only way this can be avoided is by being vigilant as citizens , having id cards and report to a central authority in case of new immigrants in the locality.This task is not easy esp with the lower class people but we need to have a system where anybody who enters a city however, busstation or train station or airport needs to be authorised only with help of national id cards , something like how we have visa , without which the citizen will not be eligible for any health insurance or banking , entry or exit to any place.
Unfortunately these days people are not as social and each obne is their own world, not even aware who is their next door neighbour
Right now here in UAE they have started a national id card system which is the only proof required for any kind of faciltiy to be given to u – medical/ banking etc..

I feel that these operations are abetted and helped by covert operations by China. I remember in one of the news items that ULFA millitants being trained by EX French officials.

This blast is a little different from previous blasts.
For the first time the victims cannot be silenced by compensation packages.
Till date it was just the common, poor people working on streets who were the targets.
The common feeling among the we to do people was that they are actually safe, because they don’t travel in buses, local trains, but on personal cars and fly business class.
The only other attack that was an eye opener was parliament attack, but then the media made it like the war against administration.
This is the first time it came crystal clear, that is a war against one and everyone.
Only the english media can feel safe, but only as long as they speak the language of the terrorists.
I get the feeling that one agenda of this attack was to eliminate the top guys in the ATS – that seems to have been achieved systematically!
