War on Terror – Justice not Vengeance

For those who may have read Frederick Forsyth’s Odessa File,?the real life story ?of Simon Wiesenthal may not be news but for everyone else, here is a short summary.

Simon Wiesenthal (Buczacz, December 31, 1908 ? Vienna, September 20, 2005) KBE was an Austrian-Jewish architectural engineer and Holocaust survivor who became famous after World War II for his work as a Nazi hunter who pursued Nazi war criminals in an effort to bring them to justice.

Following four and a half years in the German concentration camps of Janowska, Plaszow, and Mauthausen during World War II, Wiesenthal dedicated most of his life to tracking down and gathering information on fugitive Nazis so that they could be brought to justice for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Wiesenthal claimed to be instrumental in the capture and conviction of the transport manager of the “Final Solution,” Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires, and was known to be actively involved in the manhunt for the former Nazi official

After Eichmann was executed in Israel in 1962, Wiesenthal reopened the Jewish Documentation Center, which now focused on other cases. Among his most high-profile successes was the capture of Karl Silberbauer, the Gestapo officer responsible for the arrest of Anne Frank. Silberbauer’s confession helped discredit claims that The Diary of Anne Frank was a forgery. During this period Wiesenthal also located nine of the 16 Nazis later put on trial in West Germany for the murder of the Jewish population of Lw?w and also captured Franz Stangl, the commandant of the Treblinka and Sobibor death camps, and Hermine Braunsteiner-Ryan, a former Aufseherin (literally, “female supervisor”) living in Queens who had ordered and participated in the torture and murder of thousands of women and children at Majdanek

If there was one thing? that stood out about Simon Wiesenthal’s efforts to hunt down Nazis in collaboration with Government it was this sentiment

It should be noted, in regard to this and other accusations, that Wiesenthal’s ecumenical but determined attitude toward tracking human rights abuses, represented by his comments, “justice, not vengeance,” and “I am not a hater,” have put him at odds with a wide variety of institutions and people over the years

As Offstumped starts to examine the facts and myths about the un-Hindu extemist group “Abhinav Bharat”, the life story of Simon Wiesenthal comes to mind.

Abhinav Bharat’s website has been taken down but thanks to google cache its articles of faith and constitution can still be accessed.

Much has been made out on when this organisation was formed and if it was a response to the unabated Jihadi Terrorist attacks. This line of thinking suits bigots on both sides of the contentious debate on the War on Terror. While it allows mischief mongerers like the Thackerays to further their aggresive posture in public without actually having to take responsibility. It also allows the apologists for the Jihadists to obscure the public debate from the larger War on Terror.

The reality however is that Abhinav Bharat was not formed in response to 7-11 Mumbai Blasts, it was formed exactly a month before the blasts on 12th June 2006. The timing of its formation and the surprising absence of “Hindutva” anywhere in its articles of faith or Constitutions raises the question on who eactly were the sponsors of Abhinav Bharat.

Many Offstumped readers have expressed sentiments that patience has been wearing thin and incredible levels of frustration have been built up on account of the the Congress Government’s dismal track record in battling and preventing terrorism.

It is this frustration and lack of patience it seems the sponsors of Abhinav Bharat tapped into to serve a self-destructive cause.

While Offstumped hopes that through the Malegaon Case the truth will established, it is important to have an open debate on what is the Citizen’s Dharma in the War on Terror.

The Gujarat elections of 2007 amply demonstrated how the Citizens of India who care deeply about how the War on Terror could discharge their Dharma by electing the one man in government across the country who gets the War on Terror right – Narendra Modi.

To some elections maybe too indirect a solution to channelise their frustrations on the lackadaisical approach to Terrorism.

To all such citizens Offstumped has only this to say, if you are frustrated about the War on Terror, you want to do something about it, you dont want to wait till the politicians act, then do it the “righteous way”.

Walk the Talk by

- Volunteering to join the Armed Forces or the Security Forces

- Forming Citizens Vigilance Group to work with your local police to keep an eye on suspicious activities

- Finally if you want to be a hero be a Simon Wiesenthal, make it about “Justice and not Vengeance” while not being a “Hater”

With no prejudice to the current accused in the Malegaon Case, whatever be their motive it is clear that there was no Justice in their actions. Randomly targetting Muslims and maybe some Hindus smacks of sheer hatred and vengeance. It doesnt defeat Terrorism but it provides cause for breeding more Terrorists.

Offstumped expects to learn more in the days to come on the specific facts of the Malegaon Case but for now Offstumped asks everyone to be mindful of their Dharma as Citizens in this War on Terror.

Ain’t this ridiculous how fast this Anti-Hindu govt. acted in taking down the website of Abhinav Bharat without even studying its content (true freedom of speech huh?!) but still hasn’t taken down the one for SIMI or block other terrorist websites from being accessed. This govt. is inherently prejudice. Of course they are Dharm-Nirpeksh i.e. Anti-Righteousness. It all now boils down to citizens to exercise their right to vote correctly and judiciously. One more chance given to this Machiavellian party under despot Antonia Maino would be disastrous for the nation and Hindus. Look at the mischievous tactics it is using in the court to break Shri Ram Setu and erase every bit of history related to Hindus. with the support of its partner in crime bigot Karunanidhi spewing venom day after day. We need more people like Mr. Narendra Modi.

So, ‘Hindu terrorst’ has become common usage. Is it inserted in Oxford dictionary or other dictionaries? Wow, we many Hindus yet to learn this. Thank you for giving us the lession. So, I am Hindu terrorist, as I am a Hindu. Not bad, Sardar Patel was called Hindu terrorist by some muslims. Netaji Bose was called a terroist by the British. They too were Hindus.

Wow, overnight 1 billion plus Hindus became terrorists. Your name too indicate a Hindu word Ashish, are you too a terrorist? Shall we call you Ashish Terrorist? What about your parents, are they too terrorists? Surely they are, as per your writings and common usage of the term Hindu terrorist. Are you ashamed to call yourself and your parents terrorists?

Congress party too have many Hindus (eg Pranab Mukherjee, Shivraj Patil, Karan Singh, Digvijay Singh, etc), are they too terrorists? There are Hindu Judges in the courts, including Supreme Court Chief Justice (Balakrishna…), are they too terrorists? Do we call Justice Balakrishna Terrorist?

What about President Pratibha Patil, she too a Hindu. Shall we call her President Pratibha Patil Terrorist?

PM Manmohan Singh, his sikh brothers assassinated Indira Gandhi? Shall we call him, PM Manmohan Singh Terrorist? And all Sikhs must be called Sikh terrorists, as per your writings.

Congressi goons massacred over 5000 sikhs within three days under Rajiv Gandhi, what you call Congress party and Rajiv? Shall we call Congress Terrorist party? Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi Terrorist? Communists cadres massacred hundreds of people recently in Nandigram, do you call Communists Terrorist Party? Maharastra Police murdered a Bihar boy Rahul Raj, we shall call all Police forces Police terrorists.

If you thinking to intimidate Hindus by such terms, then good luck. Are you wishing to join professional pros titutes of NDTV, CNN-IBN?. But they themselves uses Hindu names, Pranoy Roy, Rajdeep, etc and earn their livlihood from Hindu terrorists. Are not they ashamed?

One only weeeps for Bharatmata. So many of her sons and daughters so vigorously denigrate her – so unfairly, so viciously. Not a shred of credible evidence so far, and screaming stories in all media outlets about Hindu terrorists. I do not know the workings of the Almighty, but if BJP does not retain power convinvingly in MP, Rajasthan ad Chattisgarh, the writing on the wall would be bold and clear.Hindus: ‘ get ready to revert to your status during Moghul times’ – nominally in majority, but constantly humuliated and harassed by wicked and cruel minority, majority of which in this day and age will be made up of Hindus themselves, however deracinated.

    Folks,

Dont get overagitated. Apni baari aayegi.

Consider for instance that china also looks peaceful and harmonious from outside because its media is 100% controlled. Doesn’t mean china is really peaceful, only seems like it..

Similarly, it only seems like the we Indics are losing because the dhimmedia is totally pawned to psec forces. Doesn’t mean psecs are winning anything sustainable beyond the next elections. And a kick in the shins, a good shake-up every now and then is good for the system – cuts complacency, builds flexibility, and raises immunity. It is how we Sanatanis have survived so long and adapted and evolved so much over the centuries – not by sitting tight, being inflexible and closing our minds.

First step is an alternate media outlet for Indic nationalists. The internet is yet to get there. How I would love to have Dainik Jagran and other vernaculars available also in English. Even if delayed, it would form the locus around which we Indics could coalesce.

Anyway, helps to keep perspective. We’ve come a long way since 9/11 in awakening to islamic bigotry. Kandhamal is just the first step in awakening indic forces towards the evanjehadi menace. The war is by no means lost yet.

Alas though, I fear for Assam and the Northeast though, the BD influx is actually turning it into a muslim-majority area. That is an irreversible and irrepairable black-hole. A major conflagration there could well masrk the beginning of an awakening and a forceful response in the NE too, soon.

    Time will tell.

    Jai bharat.

Some interesting facts about BJP and Andhra Pradesh –
BJP has been not so marginal player in AP. It was small (taking about 5-10% popular votes), but it’s fortune has been on the rise of late. It fought 1998 election on its own on 39 seats (out of 42). It was after we had Devegowda and Gujaral as PM. That time there was no Ayodhya wave, or Kargil or anything. The situation as akin today, absentee leader or a leader fit to be chaprasi in a paan shop being thrust with the responsibility to run country of 1 billion. BJP on its own got 18.3% vote, won 4 seats, came second in other 3, and as it was a triangular contest, it was third in 31 constituencies. It got above 40% vote in 3 constituencies, 30%-40% in 4 constituencies, 20% -30% in 7, 15%-20% in another 7.
If this time it is indeed a four way contest in AP (as it is in UP right now and parties with 25% vote in a constituency are winning it) and BJP reclaim that vote bank that it had (no reason to think it wont, Chiru might take away some, but some imagination and daring and BJP can be there), in AP BJP is in fight for 10 seats at least!!!

This is one election that is tailor made for BJP to win – Economy, internal security, you name any issue and Indians are longing for an alternative. I have a feeling that even in UP, this Lok Sabha BSP might not be a factor; some of her voters are not emotionally attached to her vision o becoming the first dalit PM. People are looking for safety and sound economy – If BJP can dare, it can do better than 1999.

    Thanks,

All these are adding fuel to the fire of Hindu anger.

” On behalf of HUJI & SIMI, Beldanga thana committee we are to convey that we have received your printed leaflet addressed to the Hindu people. In this connection just telling you that you are doing your job at your own choice being a head of Hindus here. Don’t you know that we the Muslims of Beldanga are 80% of the total population here,so we give you the warning that there will be no DURGA PUJA in this area henceforth anyway. Because we face a severe problem for performing our religious Namaz for 7 or 8 days due to the sound of loud speaker and tremendous noise of public gathering. We can not manage to submit our Namaz to our Allaha Tallah. For this reason our body and mind get impurities and subsequently we are turned questionable to Allah and His Servants at the time of Qyamat for hearing the sound of Drums and Trumpets. So, you must convey this Order of Stopping Durga Puja to all Puja Committees of Beldanga area within this month of Rooja (fasting). Otherwise you should be prepared for getting highest punishment at the time of next Puja for flouting this Order !! Then there will be only bloodshed and numbers of dead body of yours in every Puja Pandals. Get ready for tremendous torture… We will show our actual strength everywhere in Beldanga. Nobody can stop us even with the help of Police and Administration. Then we shall see you the eventualities. You can not save the situation of Murshidabad with the help of some beggars residing at your Ashram. WE.. WILL.. CONVERT YOUR.. ASHRAM.. AS.. A.. MADRASHA.. IN.. ONE.. DAY. Inshallah.

Looks like the Lt. Col. has “confessed”. He seems to be connected with military intelligence. Makes the whole thing all the more curious. Somehow a Lt. Col. who has been at Kashmir for a long time (I’m guessing he would have seen a fair share of violence) reacting in a knee-jerk fashion by planting some crude bums at Malegaon doesn’t convince me. But if he didn’t then why did he confess? I am not sure.

Media is gonna write more anti-Indian army articles which is really stupid considering the fact that IA is a very professional Army and is managed by civilians. Is this whole thing an excuse to get the RSS banned? If that is the case, it aint gonna work. RSS has more than 5 million people and is stronger today than ever before.

Right now it is all dark. More sunlight is needed. What is the motive of Lt. Col. Purohit? Was it jus revenge? If so, how does his earlier military record especially the one at Kashmir square up? He seems to be a good decent officer with no complaints. That brings back to my earlier question about knee-jerk reaction? Is he the main guy? Or is he just a “middleman”?

  22. Arvind says:

Terrorism has to be fought politically, legally, socially, financially and ideologically. Yes, it is a tough job but knee-jerk reactions are not gonna help and worse yet be counter-productive.

Can we SMS terse and effective messages to large number of people using current infrastructure ?. Can we send BJP party symbol repeatedly or stats of number of Indians killed in UPA regime, riots that happened , inflation etc etc repeatedly to vast sections of people in various local languages ?. Is anybody doing it already or have seen somebody doing it, any ideas, pointers , contacts etc ?

    1. I think only youngsters have access to internet and cell phones are the right choice if we want to penetrate. Also can we make small slideshows and post them on youtube. Many Indians spend lot of time on youtube.

    2. ORKUT is best place to reach Indians, Most of them spend lots of time browsing through pics and videos of complete strangers and online communities. If we only could behoove them to go out and vote for BJP.

Muslims will be given preference in police jobs: Vilasrao

MUMBAI : Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Thursday assured Muslims that the Governmemnt would give them preference in police jobs.

“A special officer from Muslim community would be appointed for the police recruitment so that the community people can get more scope in the police department,” the Chief Minister said in the function of the Federation of All Minority Educational Organisation at Haj House here.

The Government has already appointed an officer from minority community on MPSC board which is helping to bring the community youth in the mainstream, he said.

Deshmukh also asked Muslim students to learn Marathi langauage along with Urdu. “One should learn Marathi as it is the state language and also been used for the Government jobs,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil who also attended the function said that Muslims should be given priority in private jobs also. Patil requested the Chief Minister that a meeting of private industrialists should be conducted in this regard

Naah the only reason why India cannot be divided again is that unlike in 1947, 35% of IA is not muslim (where as muslim population % is reaching the pre partition level). So you do the count of muslim, then you find an officer to blame for the blast. You start with more muslim personnel in plice and then in Army and 20 years from now you have 35% muslim population in the army. India gets partitioned again. Well you heard the grand conspiracy here first. Now just keep on jotting down the dates on how this conspiracy gets fulfilled.

Mischief on part of the reporter and irresponsibility on part of TOI to first claim the confession without any credible proof.

SWANTANTRYA VEER V.D.SAVARKAR , who started both organizations. Abhinav Bharat in 1905 and Hindu Mahasabha a political party in the 30’s.

If you have read any ideology preached by the Hindu Mahasabha group, the RE INCARNATION of Abhinav Bharat mystery is solved.

They have only one aim “RE CREATION OF AKHAND BHARAT”.

However, Yossarin….I am mighty surprised at the pace at which things are happening in Mumbai and Nashik.

    1. A servinf Lt. Col.serving with Military intelligence is picked up and he is so daft to exchange text messages with (so called) fellow conspirators on the blasts. Doesnt this ring bells, an officer from the Military Intelligence making such an elemantary error or the Indian army Military intelligence training is obselete.
    2. IN ONE DAY OF INTERROGATION, the officer admits to be the master mind and the civilians who have been arrested have not given away ( if they have any) information.

What history are you talking abt?

If we need change, we need a mass movement

  35. Shanth says:

    @Nishka November 6th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

I too care a damn if I am called a Hindu Fundamentalist. Since Gujarat Election Nov 2007 I have started endorsing the term “Hindu Fundamentalist”. At least Hindus are waking up.

As a fellow reader Murali pointed out we need to make a Hindu a Staunch Hindu and also revert converted Hindus back to our fold.

  36. reason says:

I think Jiggs means History of Godse that was useful in suppressing Hindu organizations for 50 years as ‘Gandhi killers’ is repeating.

  37. Shanth says:

    Guys,

Somehow I beileve the Malegaon case will be expedited and some “HinduTerrorists” will be found guilty. Now CONgress would get death penalty for some. Then they would want to put BJP in a spot to choose between Afzal Guru and “Hindu Terrorists”. This they think would play up in the minds of Hindu voters. At the sametime get muslims in a huddle and vote for CONgress. I think this game is being craftily played out.

My gut feeling is this is going to backfire like hell on CONgress. Wait and watch.

  38. Z says:

    @ Arvind

From somebody who comes from a defence background its sad to see something like this that smells “conspiracy”

I have my own doubts about the ability of indian electorate electing the right government at the center. Time has come for BJP to be EXTREMELY aggressive and yet smart in its campaign.

  39. kumar says:

This whole thing reeks of a conspiracy so cynical that it boggles the mind.

Personally, I not only mistrust the Congress, but also people like Togadia.
    _______

And yet, the Hindu majority of this country are full of apathy. We can’t blame them..most people battles that are more important for their personal lives. The struggle for roti, kapda aur makaan, the inflation, the corruption, the competition for education and jobs, lack of access to healthcare – so on and so forth.

The other day I was debating with a friend and he said that all religions are one and the same.In different societies, some religions grow fast at different times. He added: Right now, the West needs Indian spirituality and that’s why they are getting attracted to Hindusim and its way of life.We also see Hindu temples coming up at a rapid pace in the US and elsewhere. But here in India, we lack ‘mercy’.We lack a feeling of fraternity and one ness, and we have too many fissures in our society. That’s why we find Christianity growing here so fast. This is just a cycle. We may need another Adi Sankara type of figure to come up and redirect this Nation and its people.”

I did not agree with the friend fully. But one thing is for sure: As long as we have the current political system and taxation structure, and the casteist vote politics, Hindus are never gonna get unified.May be NaMo is the answer.I am just hoping that BJP wins power on its own and the Party has the sense to request NaMo to become PM.

  40. counterview says:

@Niksha, I too call my self a Hindu fundamentalist. garv se kaho hum Hindu fundamentalist hain.
If its impossible to defend your religion without being branded a fundamentalist, so be it.

Also I don’t blame Lt Col Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya for what they did or didn’t do. This was waiting to happen. Extreme provocation should be their defense.

  41. KKumar says:

I feel congress is desperate to stick to power. They know very well that if they loose power, Sonia will not able to rejuvenate congress and it may disintegrate. They also know common man is unhappy on UPA due to price rise and terrorism. That is why congress trying all dirty tricks to retain power. 15-20% vote from minorities plus 15-20% Hindu vote is enough for them to be a biggest party in next Lok Sabha. Insulting/suppressing Hindus is to get bulk of Minority votes. Congress is not worried about Hindu backlash because Hindus are divided on caste lines. Lot more dirty tricks are yet to come election nears.Somehow congress will link terrorism to Sangh Parivar and demoralize Hindus during elections time. I also heard that congress wants election in next april, when it is exam time for most students.

Muslims with the help of Jihadis, Christians with help of Missionary-Naxalites, Congress with help of state institutions, and then communist and media all together conspiring to finish off Hinduism. I don’t think Karunanidi’s attack on Hindu practices yesterday is an isolated-crazy incident. He is a part of Missionaries game to insult Hindus. Why he has to selectively target Hindus for following religious practices?

Congress now talks about reservation for Muslims in police force, then in military and then judiciary. One by one, all institutions will be filled with Anti-Hindus in the name of secularism. Just imagine the situation if current UPA like government continues for next five years. With PM like MMS, HM like Patil, there will be anarchy/violence all around. Jihadi, Missionaries and Naxals will have free run. Hindutvadis will be crushed with brute force.

I personally feel that if BJP backed government does not come to power after the next election, future of Hinduism is very bleak.

  42. kumar says:

    Kkumar,

Totally agree with you. This is an election BJP can’t afford to lose.

On the other hand, if UPA carries this mischief too far, we could see VHP, and Bajrang Dal being banned and some of their leaders arrested.BJP may actually be hoping for that to happen so that they can encash the backlash.

  43. Esh says:

    Guys,

Just chill. Hinduism has gone through far worse periods (remember Aurangazeb?). Dont get worked up, have patience, time has to come for anything. It will come. So just chill and have an ice cream or something.

    Nishka….

It is for you to figure out.

Most certainly it cannot be written on an open forum as this.

    WE NEED A MASS MOVEMENT….

Yes …another khayali pulav….do you know what it takes to start a mass movement????

  47. Jiggs says:

    @kedar….

Bandhu…In my office, the administrator has blocked rediff, can you please paste the article for me to read????

    @Ramuplayers…

I am in Bharatvarsh, your guess was spot on :)

I will write to you separetly.

  48. Jiggs says:

All you guys can reach me at : satyakatha@in.com

  49. kumar says:

    Kedar,

If fringe elements in India from various communities resort to bombings, where do you think it will all lead to?

Apart from home grown Islamic militants, if the investigations are to be believed, we also have extreme right Hindutva groups doing planning and executing bombings. ( The scale may be different, but the intention is the same – revenge). We already have extreme left, Naxalite groups.

If this persists, there could be a time when Xtian militant outfits will come up.And then, Dalit militants, OBC militants, and what not..

This is the time to have a national dialogue. We need ‘Dharma’ to rule this country again..we need to ruthlessly weed out any elements in the society that seek to destabilise law and order. To do that, we need a Dharma-driven govt.

How many of us are sure that the current BJP is capable of a Dharma-driven governance? Going by the evidence of previous NDA rule, they are not. With LKA as PM-candidate they don’t inspire much confidence.

But they are definitely preferable to the UPA rule.

If the voters of India want it, they can bring BJP to power. If on the other hand, we see a hung parliament again, it basically means, people like us (the right wingers) need to reexamine our assumptions.

  50. Jiggs says:

    @Kumar…

“If fringe elements in India from various communities resort to bombings, where do you think it will all lead to?”

I agree with you 100%, no question about it. If the accussed in the Malegaon case have indeed done this, then they must be hanged, period. This is just not done.

However, they must also get a fair trial. What is striking in this case is that ( apart from observations posted in my earlier comment), Maharashtra Government is quiet on the whole issue??? Usually, a government ( that too Secular) would go on the offensive in such situations.

I smell a rat in this whole episode. Today, in the TOI, it is clearly said that NO OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE ATS IN THIS REGARDS ( Purohit Confessing it). Media is quoting from SOURCES.

Bandhu…I find all this very intriguing. I dont think we are hearing the truth. I guess we should hold on our horses till another 2 to 3 months, the truth will be out on its own.

  51. G says:

    @Nishka

What kind of mass movement do you want? Do you mean a movement based out of US where you are I assume going by the posts above or you want us in India to start one?

What exactly do you want that mass movement do ? Please post something clear and specific and not vague ideas. Today most people are so busy that you cant recreate some Russian revolution kind of thing.

Please do post your ideas giving details.

  52. kumar says:

    Jiggs,

I agree that it looks like a conspiracy. But I am sure they will get a fair trial. It is not very difficult to get a fair trial in India, as the cases related to suspected Islamic terrorists show us.

Fact is, the Hindu right doesn’t have media support. The political class (including the BJP) has no qualms about exploiting the casteist divisions in Hindu society.Around the time of the vote on nuclear deal and the shameful scenes in Parliamnet, I was ashamed to notice that it is the BJP which has the largest number of criminals as MPs.

All I have is my vote and it will go to a BJP candidate as long as that candidate does not have a criminal record. But the future looks bleak. In offices and colleges across urban India, people condems terrorism and blame Pakistan for it, but refuse to make the connection between UPA rule and pseudo secularism.

As some one else has pointed earlier, most people who visit blogs and post passionate comments don’t even live in this country.I would like to be part of any effort that goes towards bringing more Indian traffic to this blog and other relevant sites.Even if we can attract 100 people from each city, it will help create more awareness.

  53. Shanth says:

    @G

I understand what Nishka suggested. Mass movement is mass awakening. I am sure there are plenty of Hindus who feel angry and frustrated at the perfidy CONgress is pureveying.

Also be aware that Psec media guys constantly read this site as they get wonderful ideas here.

  54. G says:

    @Shanth

Most hindus in Urban areas feel frustrated I know but like Kumar mentioned in the previous post they are not connecting the UPA govt with terror and double talks. Its a small minority like us who are able to realise the dangers facing us.

I would like that the people who visit this blog and who live in India should form some pressure group or union so that not only can we share ideas and views but also act and do something concrete like giving our ideas to the BJP leadership or some high ranking guy in the party with whom we can make some contact and give your opinions. Again like kumar mentioned we should also get in more INdian readers to this forum.

  55. Jiggs says:

    @G…

I have been coming to this forum for more than a year now. I live in Mumbai and I talk to people about current happenings. I have been doing this since the Mumbai Traing Bombings in 2006. The going has been tough, there has been instances where my own acquaintances dubbed me a lunatic :)

However, things are falling inline the way I wanted now. They have seen it with their own eyes, read stuff and now they are agreeing with me.

The way I look at it, this evil government has actually helped the nationalist cause as follows:

    1. Forced Conversions Issue: Till 2004 whenever, this issue was brought up, people (Hindus) used to say it is a Sangh Pariwar propaganda. Now, this is a reality and everyone is talking that forced conversions must be banned.

    2. Minority appeasement: This is now a known reality in urban, semi urban and rural areas. People know it. I visited a rural area in Maharashtra recently and they all spoke with authority about minority appeasement and linked to sacrity of jobs for Hindus.

    3. Economy: By now the Myth of the DREAM TEAM ( MMS & PC) is completely busted. People dont want to know their qualifications, in MUmbai ther eis open talk of why PC lied to the nation in Dec 07, when he kept on persisiting with GDP growth of 10%, this resulted in people investing hard earned money planned for weddings etc in Mutual Funds, Stock markets. Result, today they are in deep shit.

I heard this from a middle class investor who is down by 60% on his original investment, he has had to cancel his sons wedding.

I believe this assole government has helped the BJP more then the BJP itself.

  56. Kedar says:

    Kumar:
Even before the advent Abrahamic religions, Vedantic religion had opposition not from other religions like Buddhism, but it had opposition also within certain sects–Vedantins, Meemaasakaas, and Tantrikas we all opposed to each other in some way or another. But they never resorted to violence. Come to think of it, except for a few cases, as far as I know about Indian history (regardless of whatever Kamal Hasan might show in Dasavataram), sub-religions in Hindusim mostly didnt fight one-another with bloody wars. The way to settle scores was always open public debate.
Mind you, it takes guts to participate in a public debate, because the participant intends to represent a whole community.

Please remember that this is how Sri Adi Sankara gained his most prominent disciple Sureshwara.
I wonder if it can be done today, given the requirement of a neutral platform and wide public reach. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that even now, the way to go forword is open discussions and debates rather than resorting to violence.

  57. Kedar says:

    correction:
Vedantic religion had opposition not *only* from other religions like Buddhism,….

  58. counterview says:

Anyopne in the know, would appreciate advice here:

By April, will the delimitation exercises etc be over?

Will the electoral roll revision be complete to accommodate first time voters? Is voter ID mandatory to vote or are other forms of IDfn acceptable?

Pre-poll survey predicts Congress victory in Delhi
New Delhi (PTI): Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit might return to power for the third consecutive term in Delhi, a pre-poll survey on Friday claimed, predicting a scrape through for the Congress in the coming Assembly polls.

The survey conducted by Star TV claimed that ruling Congress, which has 47 MLAs in the present assembly, will get 38 seats in the 70-member assembly while opposition BJP will improve its tally from 20 to 29 in this election.

However, according to the survey, BSP will not get any seats despite an increase in its vote share from 2003’s 5.76 per cent to 10 per cent projected this time.

In what could be bad news for BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Malhotra, Dikshit is way ahead of the South Delhi MP in popularity with 37 per cent of the 6,248 respondents favouring the Congress veteran. Malhotra polled 14 per cent.

The survey, which was conducted between October 27 and November 1, claimed that Congress will lose its vote share by 6.1 per cent from 2003’s 48.13 per cent.

The BJP is also poised to increase their vote share with 39.5 per cent votes as against last time’s 35.33 per cent.

On the performance of the Dikshit government, 46 per cent of the respondents termed it “good” or “very good” while 24 per cent termed it “bad” or “worse”.

Forty-eight per cent was of the view that the individual performance of the Chief Minister was “good” while 20 per cent rated it bad.

Only 31 per cent rated BJP’s performance as “good” while 22 per cent termed it either bad or worse.

He is the new posterboy of the rising, all -aware Indian Middle-class who wish to be citizens of a strong, secure and successful India.
The recent feather in NaMo’s cap was the clinching of Tata’s NaNo project in Gujarat , which is truly phenomenal and path-breaking in nature.

CM shying from using the word ‘jehadi’: AGP

    By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 6: With Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal blaming it on security lapses on the part of the Asom Government for the October 30 serial blasts in the State, AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary today said the statement from the Union minister has proved the failure of the Tarun Gogoi-led Government to control law and order. The statement from Jaiswal, Patowary said, came close on the heels of Congress’ ally BPF president Hagrama Mohilary’s accusation against the State Government for its failure to tackle terror in the State.
Talking to newsmen here today, Patowary said Gogoi should not continue to remain in power even for a minute after such a statement from the Centre that is led by the Congress itself.

“Gogoi proudly claims from time to time that nowadays people of Guwahati roam about till midnight and take food at dhabas, and the peaceful situation has raised land prices in Guwahati, but now people can’t go to offices and markets even at 11 am due to security lapse. Is this Gogoi’s peaceful Asom?” Patowary questioned, and added: “Gogoi has all along been claiming over the last seven years that Asom is peaceful. If Asom is really peaceful, why does he have to take to the streets appealing to the people of the State to maintain peace and amity?”

Bringing a serious allegation against the Chief Minister, Patowary said: “In this hour of crisis, both the ruling parties and the Opposition have to fight terror unitedly, but Gogoi isn’t taking the Opposition parties into his confidence. Even after a week of the serial blasts, he hasn’t convened any all-party meeting on the serial blasts. The blasts killed over 80 people in the State, but Gogoi is still reluctant to use the word ‘jehadi’.”

arjun – havent seen any prepoll surveys yet, will have seat by seat guesstimates as usual :) but dont trust them. as far as star news goes i think they must have over sampled jnu and muslim majority areas :) the very fact that MMS got a high satisfaction rating should be proof of enough that their sample is suspect.

    Come clean, Congress tells BJP

    Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday said the nation was proud of the Army but “ashamed of those who seek to infiltrate, influence and convert established secular institutions to a particular ideology and divisive agenda.”

The party was reacting to the arrest of a serving Army officer in connection with the Malegaon blast case.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi wanted to know whether the BJP tried to saffronise key foundational institutions in the past, implement a particular exclusivist ideology through Ministries such as Human Resource Development, establish institutions like Sankalp, which was intended to be a finishing school for civil service aspirants but had a predisposed bias. He also asked whether retired Major Ramesh Upadhyay, another suspect in the case, was an “integral part” of the ex-servicemen’s cell of the BJP. “The nation deserves answers,” he said.

“That persons like Lt. Col. Purohit and Major Upadhyay represent a rare aberration is not because of the BJP but in spite of the BJP. The BJP should come clean on all the disguises and proxy vehicles which they have always used for the insidious campaign of saffronisation. This, the Congress believes, is the most dangerous to India.”

A gr8 article, with candid & objective opinion, on the challenges facing Obama!

    Excerpt:

    “”Obama’s Challenge
    November 5, 2008 | 1202 GMT By George Friedman

Barack Obama has been elected president of the United States by a large majority in the Electoral College. The Democrats have dramatically increased their control of Congress, increasing the number of seats they hold in the House of Representatives and moving close to the point where — with a few Republican defections — they can have filibuster-proof control of the Senate. Given the age of some Supreme Court justices, Obama might well have the opportunity to appoint at least one and possibly two new justices. He will begin as one of the most powerful presidents in a long while.

Truly extraordinary were the celebrations held around the world upon Obama’s victory. They affirm the global expectations Obama has raised — and reveal that the United States must be more important to Europeans than the latter like to admit. (We can’t imagine late-night vigils in the United States over a French election.)

Obama is an extraordinary rhetorician, and as Aristotle pointed out, rhetoric is one of the foundations of political power. Rhetoric has raised him to the presidency, along with the tremendous unpopularity of his predecessor and a financial crisis that took a tied campaign and gave Obama a lead he carefully nurtured to victory. So, as with all politicians, his victory was a matter of rhetoric and, according to Machiavelli, luck. Obama had both, but now the question is whether he has Machiavelli’s virtue in full by possessing the ability to exercise power. This last element is what governing is about, and it is what will determine if his presidency succeeds.”

“NDTV keeps showing all black people crying every 15 minutes after obama’s victory.”

Liberalism works on the principle of guilt and victimhood. There ALWAYS has to be an OPPRESSOR and an OPPRESSED!! The “oppressed” has to be liberated. You can directly see this in

    1. Feminism — Women are the victims
    2. Animal rights — Animals are the victim
    3. Minorityism — Minorities are the victims
    4. Environmentalism — Environment is the victim
    5. Gay rights movement — Gays are the victims

Now in india Dalits are the “oppressed”. But who are Dalits? Did they even exist when India became independent? I don’t think so.

  85. Arvind says:

By the way now looks like Lt Col Purohit is clean and has no “direct” link whatever the heck that means.

    http://dailypioneer.com/133109/%E2%80%98Lt-Col-has-no-direct-link%E2%80%99.html

Again refer to the ample use of “sources”.

By the way I didn’t know there were people at MI who learned and were trained in Arabic. I mean I could even imagine Urdu, Sindhi, Baloch, even Dari and Pashto (because of Indian presence in Afghanistan). But Arabic? I thought that was left to khacha admis from RAW. No?

Fatwa against scholar backing Osama bin Laden

    http://www.deccanherald.com/Content/Nov82008/national2008110899555.asp

A fatwa has been issued against a well known Islamic scholar and owner of Peace TV Channel, Dr Zakir Naik by the Qazi of Lucknow, Maulana Mufti Abdul Irfan Qadvi for allegedly supporting Osama bin Laden and asking youths to join terrorism.

The Qazi demanded an immediate ban on the channel and a thorough probe into the sources from where Naik received funds.

The fatwa issued here on Thursday evening, has branded Naik as qafir and recommends his excommunication from the Muslim community.

Popularly known for his critical analysis of Islam and teachings of Quran, Naik is an orator in Peace TV, an Islamic television channel. Earlier, the Deoband had also issued a similar fatwa against Naik.

Talking to Deccan Herald here on Friday, Maulana Qadvi said he had issued the fatwa following a demand from several clerics and Muslims, who took strong exception to Naik’s support for terrorism and openly asking youths to join it.

The fatwa however received flak from a section of Sunni clerics. Sunni religious scholar and All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Maulana Khalid Rashid defended Naik, saying that the emerging Islamic orator had been targeted. He also dismissed the allegation against Naik.

CPM demands tough steps against Hindu ‘terrorists’

    New Delhi, DHNS:

Reiterating its demand for taking strong action against the alleged Hindu “terrorists”, the CPM on Friday asked the UPA Government to take reports of “Hindutva infiltration in the Army seriously.”

Referring to the incident of arrest of a serving Lt Colonel in connection with the Malegaon blast case, party Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury said such incidents should be dealt with utmost priority. The CPM also demanded an enquiry into the role of Bhonsla Military School, a private-run institution in Maharashtra.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the Rajya Sabha MP also recommended a slew of economic measures including massive public investment for employment generation and withdrawal of hikes in petrol and diesel prices. He also asked the UPA Government to announce a moratorium on job or wage cuts in organised sector since such job or wage cuts would further depress demand and aggravate the situation.
