The Indian State adrift

When Offstumped began a look back at how the Mood of the Nation has soured since 2004 little did it expect that events would take such a dramatic turn across the nation.

It can now be safely said that the wages of Absentee Leadership and Executive Delinquency are finally being paid by citizens of India from East to the West.

It can now also be safely concluded that North Block no longer has a functioning Internal Security Executive at its helm. Some brain dead zombies may still be lurking in the corridors and finders may please return them to their respective constituencies in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh where they maybe safely put to rest.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has lost his grip on governance while Congress President and UPA Chairman Sonia Gandhi remains AWOL.

Reflecting back on the aberration of 2004 when an irresponsible Sonia Gandhi decided to foist a Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister , only one question comes to mind.

What was she thinking ?

Reflecting back on the more than 4 years of misery under the UPA dispensation throws up another question

How could we as citizens or voters have been so?careless to have?allowed such an incompetent and utterly clueless duo to ride roughshod?on national affairs for 4 years ??

What were we thinking ?

Offstumped Bottomline: Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh were way over their heads when they thought they could wing it with their extra-constitutional wedlock. Managing the Indian State is way beyond their league and it is time they recognized this bitter truth and spared the rest of us the costs of their absentee leadership and executive delinquency.

Offstumped calls upon this incompetent and utterly clueless duo to dissolve parliament and call for fresh elections so we can get some real leadership and governance before it is too late.

I have a feeling- Marxists are not seeing no new infusion of pricipled cadres/activists/ideologues/administrators in their ranks. Neither, no regeneration of their ideology been seen – because its a closed book Marxism being a semitic religion.

What we see today in the form of Karat, or Buddha, or Biman, or Yechuri- all are product of huge surge of pro marxist mass movement in Europe, Asia due to many issues. After fall of USSR – and china embracing market economy- it has been hit hard.

Marxists have more nuisence value today that anytime in our history.

Short term challenges before Hindutva in India are:

    Surge is Jehadi Islam
    Market driven media
    caste politics and caste identity

If BJP can switch the transition from LKA to Modi smoothly- it will be unstoppable.

RC Majumdar, Jadunath Sircar were both nationalist historians. Both Bengalis. RCM was the pioneer.

I will add one more threat:

Maoist threat- its now being funded by international church to wage caste war in India.

Arjun: Yes, thanks to burning spirit of nationalism, many great things took place at that time in that part of India. Its a waste land- soon ti be sucked into batter for establishing third Islamic state in that of of India. THAT’S THE TIME WHEN CPIM WILL BE HISTORY. Lock stock and barrel.

BJP must fight independentaly in Bengal this time and believe me they will win at least 3 seats.

Bengalis are now looking toward BJP,and BJP must respond

  6. Tathagata Mukherjee says:

Its the same appeasement that divided Bengal. Now, again CPIM, TMC, Congress- all competing with each other to appease.

While 50 KM of East, a fanatic Jehadi Islam is gaining ground- and sooner or later its going to cross border, if not already.

CPIM is more interested abt Gujarat (not development0 but to instigate muslims), a state 2000 KM away (though Justice Nanavati took the blew off), but caring little what happens to 50KM east of Calcutta.

A horrible horrible wipeout awaits CPIM. I care not for CPIM, but it has many dedicate, geneuine good folks who don’t realize the dangers ahead.

  7. Z says:

BJP should focus on West Bengal and Kerala a bit more than it usually does. Add to that intelligent alliances in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu (Jayalalitha??). That will definitely help.

But all this is nothing if UP is out of their reach. Idiots like Kalraj Mishra and Lalji Tandon have too much say in UP.

  8. malay says:

    Tathgata, Arjun,

As I have mentioned many times earlier, BJP will not be a major force in bengal until RSS become stronger in bengal, Now BJP is run by retired babu and business, who have no aim ib life anymore. So It is duty of RSS to prepare a strong yong cadre in bengal.
It may happen through another route that is by the change in political atmosphere, where diverse view flourish, like CPIM goes out of power and other party come in power, who are suportive to BJP.
Bengalies are inherently nationalist, you can see it through the number of right-wing inteclectuals in India, but stagnant atmosphere is nor conductive for BJP. Who is to blame for this situation, Yes, only bengali, who become happier and satisfied with little achievement.

Here’s a poser to everyone who believes the BJP will do a better job than the absentee leadership currently in place:

I can’t help be skeptical about their effectiveness at the helm either. ABV promised us a uniform civil code and the scrapping of Article 370. And how can we forget that they vociferously opposed the recent nuclear deal (with all the waivers in place) for all the wrong reasons, yet they were eager to sign off on a far less acceptable version of the nuclear deal when they were in power! Granted that we didn’t experience the horrific spate of terror attacks as in the last couple of years, but the nature of the bomb blasts has been unprecedented too. This may probably just indicate a global trend of rising islamic terror activities and a fallout of USA’s economic and foreign policies?

I did vote for BJP the last time they came to power and I will vote for them once more if I get an opportunity, so please don’t start with the branding (leftist, psec, pinko, etc). I just have a genuine concern…

righto, missed an important one. thanks for highlighting it.

  12. Arvind says:

“This may probably just indicate a global trend of rising islamic terror activities and a fallout of USA’s economic and foreign policies?”

Everything bad in Congress regime seems to have a “global” reason to it. India is better off only compared to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Even Indonesia and probably Iraq too have a better track record. Of course, the good things are only due to Congress and sardar’s hardwork u see.

“…ABV promised us a uniform civil code and the scrapping of Article 370″

Yeah but that wasn’t the promise of NDA. Look, BJP had to cobble a coalition of 26 parties to get the majority they got. So obviously there has to be some compromises (if you don’t want them make sure BJP with some of its like minded allies gets a simple majority). On the other hand, they said they would do Pokhran in THEIR MANIFESTO and DID IT!!!

“…yet they were eager to sign off on a far less acceptable version of the nuclear deal when they were in power!”

How do you know this? This is pure BS and media drivel.

  13. AK says:

“BJP had to cobble a coalition of 26 parties to get the majority they got. So obviously there has to be some compromises ”

Now that’s indeed worrisome! A party that wins the most number of seats still has to make serious compromises and be held ransom from the same two-bit communal parties (which are currently the bedfellows of the sardar’s and madam maino’s govt) doesn’t inspire great confidence.

But of course hope springs eternal and like you said, the only way out is to get the BJP a clear majority.

  14. Indian says:

AK now that you have been challenged on the other things that you have written, let me challenge you on the nuclear deal, specifically what you said,
And how can we forget that they vociferously opposed the recent nuclear deal (with all the waivers in place) for all the wrong reasons, yet they were eager to sign off on a far less acceptable version of the nuclear deal when they were in power!

    1. Yes BJP opposed the nuclear deal, what do you think the wrong reasons were and what do you think is the right reason
    2. BJP was willing to sign a less acceptable version of the deal – NOW THIS IS A BLANT LIE. I would ask you to give me references, and back up what you are saying. If you cannot do that, please recant what you have said. I have not yet come to a conclusion about you (not that my opinion matters), but either you know much more than we do, or you are ignorant, but I have a opinion and I will air them kinda person or worst you are a conniving liar. I intend to know, I will not let a lie go unchallenged on this blog.

    Please fire away!!

  15. AK says:

    @ Indian

I didn’t take Arvind’s reply to my post as a challenge, but as a ‘clarification’. Sorry to disappoint you, but I share mostly the same views as MOST of the commentators here on Offstumped, and obviously that’s why I frequent this blog.

I was just airing some of my doubts and concerns about the BJP (a party which I am FOR, like I already said) and wanted to get counter opinions from the regular posters here. I did expect that this would lead to some name calling/branding etc. so I’m not surprised with your confrontational tone at all. I would still like to have a discussion and get differing views/opinions, but only if you don’t ascribe ulterior motives to whatever I write (the most shocking one was a conniving liar!).

  16. Tathagata Mukherjee says:

Malay: RSS does have presence in Bengal- I have seen RSS working in interior areas of Birbhum, Bankura districts – outside glare of press. There is a lot of hostility towards RSS in the mainstream Bengali Press primaily by leftist fundoos as columnists who control those- guess with rise of Jehadi Islam and WB coming under attack- it will change over the coming years.

Cultural view of RSS and Bong middle class match closely- and I think its just a matter of time Lotus will bloom again.

  17. Arvind says:

    BJP’s “big 3″ issues are:

    1. Ayodhya Mandir
    2. Scrap Article 370
    3. Uniform Civil code

Of these 3, the easiest is Ayodhya. The old mosque (that no one went to anyways, was under seal by GOI until that was broken and a shilanyas was performed by Rajiv) is no longer there anyways. Article 370 can also be scrapped easily; there is a lot of pro-India sentiment in Jammu that counters the jihadis in Kashmir and Pakistan is in doldrums anyways and will continue to remain so (plus if Barack becomes Prez who knows what worse is gonna happen to Pak) so they won’t be able to do shit. Plus even if they do hanky panky definitely nothing we can’t handle. Uniform civil code is gonna be the most touchy issue (but arguably the most important one) and I’d be very surprised if BJP can get it done before its term is over. They have to be very cautious in their approach IMO. I’d prefer a step-by-step approach rather than A BIG BANG approach. Hope ArunJaitley and Arun Shourie have some ideas mapped out. I also think govt. should remove itself from managing religious places like temples, churches etc. because they do a pathetic job anyways. Govt. should not be in the business of religion (only thing it should do is granting licence to places of worship). Also, India being secular, govt. should either cut of Haj subsidies (bad idea probably) or provide funding for “religious yatras” to other important places as well (more palatable option)

  18. Tathagata Mukherjee says:

Malay: to the list of opposites, add this:

NC Chatterjee, two time MP of Hindu Mahasbha from WB and a top intellectual, parliamentatrian and his son Somnath :) -

  19. Indian says:

@ AK, That’s fine, let’s discuss the issues. I will let the first point pass (BJP opposed it for the wrong reason, I suspect that debate will be on opinions rather than on facts). Though on the first point I think you are wrong. Let’s discuss the second one. You do not have to work hard, you have to just point one news (not opinion and has to be credible) that says BJP was willing to settle for less. I will shut up. I will do a panacea, or else please recant and say you have no proof that BJP was willing to to agree to a far more compromised deal.

(Btw, I did say that you could be more knowledgeable or ignorant, I did not know why you chose the liar part)

This nuclear deal is a bad deal. It is an entrapment and your saying that BJP was ready for a deal like this ( or even a more worse deal) is a very big statement. For someone like me, if true, I do not want to touch BJP with a 100 foot pole. But then I know what you say is not true. I have been following this deal for a long time. Yes, I know my newclear science (one that a normal person would know) and what I don’t know, I can say I know few of the best in the world and I have seaked their opinion. What you say is absolutely wrong. But then I am not all knowing God, so maybe you know something that I do not know. So please make your stand clear. And yes let me make this statement, for the benefit of this blog, BJP DID NOT APPROVE FOR THIS DEAL OR A MORE WORSE DEAL. (Which btw is exactly opposite of what you say)

The unabated influx of suspected nationalities is posing a serious threat to the localities demographically, socially and economically. The suspected nationalities are purchasing land on the Indo-Bhutan border area from the middlemen who are also migrant Bengali Muslims of the then East Bengal. According to locals, the people are purchasing land without a no-objection certificate from BTC authority and have no proper documents identifying them as Indian citizens. These thousands of suspected Bangladeshis are setting houses in and around Darangamella area to the Guwabari area including the “No man land” in the national boundary.

Local public alleged that many new families of suspected Bangladeshis are daily seen erecting houses in border area and by the side of the rivers without any resistance from any BTC administration or state government as well as any organisation.

    Delhi dream gives BJP jitters
    OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT
New Delhi, Nov. 2: The BJP’s chances of returning to power at the Centre might hinge on whether it can retain Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh in this month’s polls.

Many leaders fear a poor performance in the Assembly elections will throw the party into a political abyss.

The niggling worries have emerged after the victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh last year and Karnataka this summer gave the party confidence to believe it was a frontrunner in the race for Delhi.

Most senior leaders feel the party is comfortable in Congress-ruled Delhi but its governments in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are precariously placed.

Internal assessments and professional pre-poll surveys have not given the leaders any encouraging feedback. Despite such worrying signals, the leaders expect the party to keep at least one of the three states.

Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh hold the key to the party’s Lok Sabha prospects: the party now holds 56 of the 65 lower House seats from these states. In percentage terms, the tally is over 86 per cent, a feat leaders concede will be difficult to repeat in the next general election.

The problem is that the party hasn’t added new areas of support in the past five years, relying heavily on traditional strongholds to generate gains in the future.

Some sections of the BJP fear a loss of 20 Lok Sabha seats (from the last time) from these states if the party fails to retain any of the three in the Assembly elections.

In the 2003 Assembly polls, the BJP had left the Congress far behind in vote percentage in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

While the BJP polled 42.5 per cent in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress got 31.61 per cent. The difference was big in the number of seats won, too: BJP 173, Congress 38.

But the impressive numbers belie two factors — a powerful anti-incumbency wave against the Congress government and one in favour of Uma Bharti.

This time, anti-incumbency is haunting the BJP. Uma has become its bitter enemy, one who can almost nullify the BSP factor which primarily harms the Congress.

In Rajasthan last time, the BJP had won 120 seats, or 39.2 per cent of the votes, against the Congress’s 56 seats, or 35.65 per cent of the votes. This time, however, many senior leaders a

BJP has an edge in Chhattisgarh

    Shivanand Shukla | Raipur

Even as the BJP and Congress are locked in a neck and neck fight in the ensuing Chhattisgarh Assembly election, indications are that the saffron party has an edge over its rival. But the three per cent “undecided voters” would decide the final outcome of the election, say pollsters.

The BJP has dropped 17 ‘non-performing’ legislators in a bid to neutralise “anti-incumbency” factor against individual MLAs. But what has gone beyond the comprehension of the analysts is the wisdom of the party to ignore tickets to its traditional voters – the Sikhs and Sindhis.

Both the community is said to account for nearly three per cent of State’s total population. Denial of ticket to Rajindar Singh Pal, an outgoing legislator who is a Sikh and Raman Singh loyalist, has surprised all.

On the other hand, the Congress gave tickets to Guru Mukh Singh Hora and Kuldeep Juneja, both Sikhs, too failed to smoothen the ruffled feathers of the Sindhi community, which demanded at least five tickets from the party. While this may act to neutralise sentiment of this community in favour of BJP but selection of candidates of the Congress has certainly made the fight tough for the ruling party, which is also facing rebellion in many places, including Raipur.

Congress has no sympathies whatsoever for terrorists. Afzal should be hanged. There is no doubt about it,” Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said. He said Congress has never supported Afzal or any act of terror. “We’re wrongly blamed for being soft on terrorism. Afzal Guru has been convicted and his mercy petition before the President is under process; it takes time,” he said.”

Now, according to the Congress Ideology, we the people of Bharat ( Read Hindus) are worst form of specimen ever in existance. According to them we are are outright stupid, docile and morons.

    He further adds:

“The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister also launched a scathing attack on Sangh Parivar and said blasts happen whenever BJP is in trouble. “Recent Assam blasts came at a time when BJP was in an embarrassing situation after sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur’s arrest. BJP needed to divert attention,” he said. “I am just drawing attention to this uncanny co-incidence.”

In normal circumstances, analysts say, this would not be an easy task since voter fatigue normally sets in against the ruling party after five years. But BJP leaders insist that the soaring cost of food items has led to anger against the Congress-led UPA government that would immensely benefit them.

Political analyst G.V.L. Narasimha Rao echoes the view.

“The BJP seems to doing quite well. Price rise is a major factor, and increasingly people are attributing this to the central government,” Rao said. “A good performance in all four states (Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) is mandatory for BJP to be in the reckoning for power when the Lok Sabha elections are held.

“If the BJP fails to win even two states, it will be difficult for them to come to power (nationally).”

The Congress, perhaps having read the voter mood, is beginning to announce that the state verdict will have no bearing on the general elections.

“State elections are fought on issues completely different from the Lok Sabha election,” party spokesperson Manish Tiwari said. “Assembly results have no bearing on Lok Sabha elections.”

Three Hindi-speaking traders were shot dead by suspected KLNLF militants in Central Assam’s Nagaon district early Monday morning, police said.

A group of six suspected Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) extremists from neighbouring Karbi Anglong district descended upon Sukanjuri village under Samoguri police station and went to the houses of two families there.

The ultras then brought out two members of one family and one from the other family and shot them dead at the village square around 5.30 a.m, the sources said.

The dead were identified as Jogeswar Shah (60) and his son Mahesh (30) as well as Paban Sarma (27). They were small traders.

Police and civil officials have rushed to the village and investigations are on.

Villagers said the KLNLF ultras regularly come down from the hills of Karbi Anglong district and attack the people in the bordering areas of Nagaon district to grab land.

Probe into Mumbai bus, Batla encounters initiated

Giving in to pressure from its key allies in the ruling coalition, the government has decided to initiate judicial inquiries into the Batla House encounter in the Capital as well as the Rahul Raj shooting in Mumbai last week. It has also decided to convey, in strong words, its concern over continuing attacks on north Indians in Maharashtra to the Vilasrao Deshmukh government.

The development, which is certain to impact morale of police forces, comes in the backdrop of intense pressure from the Samajwadi Party, supporting the UPA from outside, and the RJD and the LJP, to take immediate corrective measures that would remove doubts that had arisen in the public perception about these two incidents. The SP in particular, has been demanding a judicial probe in the Batla House encounter, which has been seen in political circles as an attempt to tap into Muslim anger on branding the community as terrorists.

The RJD and the LJP, on the other hand, had raised strong protests on the police killing of the Bihari youth who had hijacked a bus in Mumbai in a bid to counter MNS chief Raj Thackeray. The issue of attacks on north Indians in Maharashtra in fact was raised prominently in the meeting of the Union Cabinet on Friday, with even a demand to arrest Raj Thackeray under the NSA, following which the Centre was forced to send a stern message to the Deshmukh government.

Briefing reporters on the meeting, finance minister P Chidambaram said on Friday that the Prime Minister has directed the Union home minister to take the ‘‘sense’’ of the Union Cabinet and convey it to the state government. The PM informed the Cabinet that he did write a ‘‘rather strongly-worded letter’’ to the Maharashtra government, he said, adding that Union home minister Shivraj Patil too spoke to Maharashtra chief minister and wrote more than one letter to him.

On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party, this evening maintained that it will go to any extent to ensure safety of north Indians in Maharashtra even as it blamed the Congress and the NCP for the current situation in the state.

Though it ruled out withdrawal of support to the UPA government at the Centre, it accused the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra of ‘‘softpedalling’’ Raj Thackeray to counter the Shiv Sena. ‘

  34. reason says:

The comments are interesting, at times more than the post.

Prakash Sharma, Bajrang Dal interview was excellent. You need BJP’s PM candidate to speak like that. But expecting that from the new, improved Advaniji is stupider than even Advaniji quoting Jinnah on secularism.

You dont need a BJP in power with NDA allies and Advaniji as PM. That might end up hurting the cause even more than Vajpayee’s term did. There was much ruing in the comments about finishing off the congress – congress should send a thank you note to Vajpayeeji atleast before their term closes, if they haven’t already. And the congress party can prepare a fresh thank you note to Advaniji, they can use it after 2009 elections.

You need people like this Prakash Sharma, and with them the cause is safe even under any foreign rule.

  35. venkatesh says:

    @ reason,

I am surprised why there is so much of pussyfooting on the side of the BJP. When the UPA is insulting hindus left right and centre, why is the BJP afraid to state facts as they are. They dont need to be vitrilolic. Our religion does not stop us from respecting other religions, but does not mean we need to take crap from everyone else.

So defensive about the Sadhvi as well. Well even if she did it (which bTW looks like she has not), can anyone really blame her. There is no justice for the majority in India and no protection. Isolated incidents like this are bound to happen. I am actually surprised that they are so few and far between. I think the BJP needs to learn to call a spade a spade. No one outside of Modi can do that. He is the only person fit for the PM chair. Make him the PM candidate and the BJP will win for sure.

  36. reason says:

    venkatesh,
whether or not the Sadhvi did it, is for the courts to decide. Dont we say that for the most violent terrorists and criminals? Then what was the need for Advaniji to speak assuming her guilt? I refer to the timesof india report quoting Advaniji that was posted here.

The police claim the bike that was used was registered once in the Sadhvi’s name. That leaves only two possibilities. If she did it, she did not want to hide her tracks (unlike the other scums who use all possible means including turning policemen who die in duty into villains). But there are also chances someone else did it and planted her bike.

Advaniji had ups and downs, quoting Jinnah on secularism was absolutely stupid. His recent speech in parliament during the confidence vote was good – he touched all issues of concern including Amarnath. But after that, it has been strangely downhill, and steeply downhill.

  37. venkatesh says:

    Reason,

Rajnath Singh is embarassed with her photos with him. What is the reason for the embarassment, one can meet hundreds of people. He is a political figure. By saying he is embarassed he has conceded a point that the lady is a bomber and he should not have been caught on camera with her. Ultra defensive in my view. I prefer Advani’s comment in the context of if she is guilty let her be punished.

Advani’s comments on Secularism were badly misreported. He was only quoting Jinnah in the context of his speech. I think a mountain made over a mole hill. In any case he is too old and he should leave the way for NaMo and jaitleys. They should get shourie more involved in addressing the media. He is terrific as well and none of the TV anchors can act too smart with him as he is a senior well respect journalist and does not take idiots very easily

  38. prashant says:

i believe repeatedly saying that advani has bcom old and he should leave is “bad in taste”
Advaniji must lead the country with trusted lieutinant modi, jaitley, shourie, shahnawaz etc….

Meanwhile was surprised to know “Ambika Soni” too is christainnnnnnnnn
So who says India is NOT a Christain RULED country.

  39. venkatesh says:

    Prashant,

Not sure why that is bad taste. 80 years of age is time for Vanaprashtha. I am not insulting him, just saying he does not have energy to lead the country

    >>Digvijay Singh is the worst pseudo secular possible.

Tis’ not surprising…’coz people seriously think that he is a crypto-Christian a la Ambika Soni. BTW, there’s no use paying heed to what this moron parrots…if I recall correctly, Diggi Raja was the same guy who had boasted during last M P elections, that if BJP came to power (in MP), he will take ’sanyaas’ from politics, but this traitor and psyophant numero-uno conviniently shifted base to Delhi and forgot about all retiring from politics…how nice! seems the guy suffers from selective bout of amnesia. He is nothing more than an appendage to the already existing list of no-gooders nincompoop psycophants, whose very existense, it seems depends on what the Italian Bar Dancer & her joker clown prince think (I wonder if both the Maa-Beta even indulge in thinking, in the first place!), these hanger-ons who will go to any lengths in degrading anything Hindu, and more than that will have no qualms in driving this nation to the brink of disaster, and put the security of its citizens in jeopardy, if only they could demonstrate their usefulness to the IBD & the CP (Italian Bar Dancer & the Clown Prince) in getting some more minority votes in the lap of CON-gress! Then it seems that the raison-detre of their even taking birth on this earth would have proved fruitful…they would have achieved their total ‘moksh’ or ‘nirvaan’!

No Prashant, comparing Rabri to IBD is in fact an insult to every hardworking Bhartiya woman, ‘coz neither the IBD & nor her brood have done a single day’s hardwork in thier lives, they just know how to live a life surrouned in luxury at the expense of tax payer’s hard-earned money, also ‘coz even if Rabri Devi as CM of Bihar, proved to be a non-performer, accepting the fact that she was not educated, had not stepped out of the house earlier, she did dilgently took care of her household & family…in that regard she fulfilled her duty towards her husband & kids…in that regard she is a performer, while about the IBD, the less said the better!

“Advani’s comments on Secularism were badly misreported. He was only quoting Jinnah in the context of his speech.”

The reports were as usual mischievous, they claimed that Advani declared that Jinnah was secular.

But that does not diminish from the stupidity in quoting Jinnah on secularism. Jinnah was the man,who along with the rest of India’s Muslim elite, was rabidly communal and did nothing to prevent the genocide of thousands of Hindus in both the Pakistans. Quoting him on secularism was in the least, unnecessary.

If Advani wanted a good quote on secularism, he could have picked up from any one of Bharat’s ancient texts in any of Indian languages. May be he wanted to prove that he too was ‘convent educated’, like he actually declared in another context.

I wish BJP well, they should retain the 3 states and win Delhi, but it would be better for them to lose the 2009 elections given their leadership’s current fascinations with ’secularism’ and apparent fascination for winning approvals from the likes of The Hindu.

  44. Bharat says:

    @reason and others
Those have not read the Advani’s lecture in Pakistan, must read it. It is worth reading. I bet, it will remove your all doubts.

Why Advani quoted Jinnah’s lecture (its classified information in pakistan, Advani was given access to the information on request ), and what are the statements of Jinnah on Secularism? You can learn there. Advani, a man who knows what to speak and when, exposed Pakistan standing on it own soil. Indian media distorted it, twisted it to create conficts among Sangh parivar and they managed it. RSS, VHP etc, without looking the texts of lecture, fall into traps of sickular media and did worst thing on the person, who spent whole life for Hindu and India’s cause. As Swami Ramdevji rightly said, Advani’s type of person don’t born everyday, it takes lots of effort to shape such a person.

I appeal to those who have not read the text of Advani’s lecture, please read it. It is self-explanatory.

    =====
On Jinnah Issue: Advani saying NOTHING new.

Here is the Speech of Advani. Show us where he has certified Jinnah as Secular.

This is the full text of the speech:
    http://us.rediff.com/news/2005/jun/06adv1.htm

    Note.
Advani said the EXACT SAME THING ON JINNAH on May 15th, in the function to pay homage the great Guru Swami Ranganathananda’s funeral. I think, you can’t read Bengali. But, ask any of your Bengali friend to read it for you.
    http://www.anandabazar.com/archive/1050516/16desh3.htm
Advani Quoted Swami Ranganathananda’s same words there as well.

Advani said the EXACT same thing on May 15th 2005 in New Delhi, in a memorial meeting to pay tribute to late Swami Ranganathananda (head of Ramakrishna Mission). Prime Ministers Mr. Singh and Mr. Gujral shared the podium with Advani. This report from Leading Bengali daily reads as follows: “..Last year when I met him, Swamiji told me (Advani) about Jinnah’s Speech before Pak Constituent Assembly. There was no trace of Communalism in Jinnah after partition. I was surprized to hear it from Swamiji –how liberal he was. How much memory he has. Swamiji asked me to send him a copy of that lecture, which I did…..”.

Advani DIDN’T say Jinnah was “secular”. He merely quoted Swami Ranganathananda, a great scholar in the context of this Speech.

When Advani Quoted Sarojini Naidu he said: “Sarojini Naidu had described Jinnah in his EARLY YEARS as an “ambassador of Hindu-Muslim Unity”". Emphasis is clearly here on: EARLY YEARS, and not on later years.

  45. Arvind says:

“Have you seen the latest from Obama on Kashmir – he wants to gift it to Pakistan”

That is absolutely BS. Anyways, if that ever happens, US must be told unequivocally that they got enough problems to deal with — Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan, tribal and other areas of Pukistan — so back OFF Kashmir. Kashmir was, is and will be a India and Pakistan’s and will be RESOLVED BILATERALLY. I think the Americans know this; even stupid people like Madeline Halfbright.

Btw when Obama comes to power he has told time and again he will cut a lot of military aid to the Pukis. By the way I don’t see the shelling in the tribal areas stopping soon; heck it might even intensify under Obama (remember it was under Clinton after Gulf War 1 that Iraq was continuously shelled). India must use this opportunity to bring ISI’s nefarious activities to light. Basically ISI and the terror infrastructure needs to go and be dismantled. There is no other solution. Most likely, Pakistan will itself fragment in 2-3 years. Of course, this might mean a future war. But even then that is better than India’s continued bleeding with a thousand cuts.
