For about a week now India’a War on Terror was distracted and defocused as the media had another Babu Bajrangi moment.
Starting with the orchestrated leaking of yet to be proven allegations against 3 individuals for one stray blast in one non-descript town the government and the public debate walked right into the trap laid by the media through its Babu Bajrangi moment and in the process losing perspective and sight of the job unfinished.
Alas for the people of Assam this comes with a heavy price in a state already reeling from heightened ethnic conflicts fuelled by decades of illegal immigration with the congress party’s sanction.
India’s War on Terror did not end with the Batla encounter in Jamnagar or the arrest of Peerbhoy from Pune. India’s War on Terror is real and stark. It does not behoove the Indian State with aspirations of being a great power to lose its perspective and take its eye off the ball everytime the media springs up a Babu Bajrangi moment on it.
Let no one be in denial that there is bigotry and criminality of the Babu Bajrangi variety in the dark recesses of Indian society. Let no one also be in denial that we must continue to enforce the laws steadfastly to deal with such criminality while fighting such bigotry intellectually.
But a State with aspirations of greatness must demonstrate that it has the capacity and the capability to do so without losing sight or perspective on the larger threat to its very idea and its very integrity.
It is this imperative the Assam blasts starkly have reminded us of while we continue to pay a heavy price for Sonia Gandhi’s absentee leadership, Manmohan Singh’s executive delinquency and Shivraj Patil’s incompetence.
The War on Terror is far from finished and let not the trial in Nashik distract us from that job yet to be completed.

New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Condemning the serial bomb blasts in Assam Thursday, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani said the terror attack highlighted the need to take action against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
“It (terror attack) again highlights the issue of Bangladeshi illegal immigrants in the country,” Advani told reporters criticising the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, he said the incident proved “the government’s soft stand on terror”.
The BJP has been criticising the government, saying it was not taking effective steps to stop illegal immigrants from Bangladesh “involved in operating (terrorist) sleeper cells in various parts of India”.

“During my visit to the relief camps in the affected areas I have not come across a single foreign national,” Gogoi said in a statement, reacting to reports that the clashes took place between Bangladeshi migrants and indigenous people.

My condolences to the families of the dead. These blasts are becoming very regular in India. If they are not stopped or atleast reduced significantly it will have very bad effects. Two political parties in Asom are clearly unable to profit from repeated previous experience. They are the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). The BJP has quite a few discreditable track records of having failed to learn its lessons from previous experience – mainly in Uttar Pradesh. On three occasions, the BJP has become partner of a coalition government in UP with Mayawati. With every such coalition the BJP has weakened itself in the State and made Mayawati stronger. And this has not been for want of telling. We have always managed to tell the BJP in advance what was likely to happen, and things have generally gone according to predictions.
In Asom too, the situation has been no different. The BJP had earlier formed a pre-poll alliance with the AGP in Asom that left both political parties licking their wounds after the elections. After all, the Congress would like nothing better than to split the votes of its adversaries at the elections. This time around, things are going to be a trifle more difficult for both the BJP and the AGP. The Congress has been in power for more than seven years at a stretch, and one can virtually guarantee that the number of voters will increase drastically in the State for the coming Lok Sabha elections and that the new voters will all be from Bangladesh, and that neither the BJP nor the AGP can do anything about it.
Mercifully, the two political parties have decided to go in for seat-sharing rather than for a pre-poll alliance. This will have the advantage of ensuring that the two parties do not take away each other’s votes and give the benefit to the Congress. However, there is a great deal of heart-burning about sharing the prize seats. For instance both the BJP and the AGP want the prestigious Guwahati seat. Such bickering will not do at all. The two parties ought to go by past performance and not by who wants which seat. If they cannot resolve their differences amicably, the decision should be left to a computer that has been fed all the inputs correctly. It will invariably do an impartial job.

GUWAHATI, Oct 29: “The population of Muslims in Asom is about 82 lakh, including about 35 lakh indigenous Muslims who first identify themselves as Asomiyas, but the governments at the Centre and in the State have been busy in appeasing only the non-indigenous Muslims, since they outnumber their indigenous counterpart in head count,” said advocate Nekibur Zaman, a central executive member of the Asom Musalman Unnayan Parishad.
Talking to The Sentinel, Zaman said: “Indigenous Muslims, most of whom had converted to Islam in the 11th century, have been totally assimilated with the Asomiya society. The indigenous Muslims are socially and emotionally associated with festivals like Bihu, Durga Puja, Diwali etc, but the non-indigenous Muslims aren’t. Major contribution to the development of Asom in all spheres from the Muslim community is from the indigenous Muslims. Some of the examples are the first doctorate of Asom and former Axom Xahitya Xabha (AXX) president Moidul Islam Bora, writer and former AXX president Syed Abdul Malik, poet and former AXX president Mofisuddin Ahmed Hazarika and others. On the other hand, no such major contribution to the State is seen from the non-indigenous Muslims whose arrival in the State can be dated back to 150 years or so. Despite this glaring reality, whenever there comes the issue of development of Muslims, the governments at the Centre and in the State speak of development of sar areas and madrasas, but never think of the well-being of the indigenous Muslims. This is nothing but dirty vote-bank politics.”
“Whenever the issue of development of Muslims arises, Bihari Muslims get preference in Bihar, UP Muslims in UP, but the Asomiya Muslims are a neglected lot in Asom,” Zaman said, and added: “In the recent violence in Udalguri and Darrang districts, some of the so-called minority leaders said that indigenous Muslims were attacked. Merely speaking Asomiya or taking a gamosa around the neck doesn’t make one an indigenous Asomiya Muslim. An indigenous Asomiya Muslim is socially and emotionally touched in festivals like Bihu, Durga Puja and Diwali in the same manner as he is emotionally and socially associated with Eid. We will not allow anyone to play dirty politics in the name of indigenous Muslims.”

Nashik, Oct 29 (IANS) Retired army officer Ramesh Upadhyay of Pune, an accused in the Sep 29 Malegaon bomb blast case, Wednesday charged the Maharashtra Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) interrogators of physically torturing him.
‘The marks of ATS beating are still fresh on my body,’ Upadhyay told the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court here Wednesday when he was produced there by ATS officers seeking his police remand.
Strongly opposing Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar’s plea for his remand, Upadhyay said the ATS sleuths have already grilled and tortured him enough without unearthing any evidence against him.
Telling the court that he was a heart patient and could not survive without medication for single day, Upadhyay demanded that a thorough medical examination be conducted on him.
Offering himself for a narco test or any other scientific investigation and assuring the ATS full cooperation in their enquiry, Upadhyay claimed to hold high status and esteem in civil society as an ex-army officer.
‘I am a proud ex-serviceman, a responsible citizen and a hardcore patriot; I have never indulged in or aided any terrorist activity. Such dirty allegations and police custody is the last thing I deserve,’ Upadhyay said in his had-hitting self-defence.

Terror of the Time
Yesterday’s was one of the biggest terror strikes of recent times. That Asom would be the next target of the most criminal of terrorists, was not unknown. There have been intelligence reports, which this newspaper has had occasion to harp on, pointing to the sprouting of a gamut of jehadi groups in the State under the direct tutelage of Bangladeshi terror outfits and Pakistan’s ISI. Only a few days ago did the Army gun down nine alleged Harkat-ul Jehadi Islami (HuJI) activists, all with Bangladeshi documents. The presence of HuJI and ISI agents in Asom — with the advantage of having to use illegal Bangladeshis as conduits — is known to all, and yet this so-called secular government has all along pretended otherwise because votes of the so-called minorities are more important for it than national security. And for the Congress, in Asom, these ‘minorities’ are not indigenous Muslims, because it is the illegal Bangladeshis who are allowed to transform themselves overnight to ‘Indian minorities’ who would vote en masse for the Congress, their ‘secular’ saviour. The jehadis know it well, and the ISI has exploited that fact. Also, the manner in which Asom was rocked yesterday by serial blasts — a dastardly attack on the society — reflects on the spread of terror pattern in the country.
Let us not talk of the casualties — that is shocking. Let us rather talk of the scope that terrorists — whoever they may be — have got to perpetrate terror on an innocent humanity. Let us rather talk of the manner in which the terrorists have outwitted the government and its intelligence agencies. When such serial blasts of such magnitude take place in a span of 15 minutes or so, who do you really blame? Obviously the intelligence machinery ‘at work’. You must blame the inability of intelligence agencies to fan out, collect the right piece of information on the movement of terror groups and activities of their sleeper cells, analyse those bits of information, and arrive at a conclusion that can be acted upon — called actionable intelligence — to preclude terror from manifesting in its most lethal form. And then you must ultimately blame the supreme entity that lords over those failed intelligence agencies. So who is that entity? Obviously the government of the day.

But we have been stating the obvious for long: that unless you open your eyes and admit to having made your State the most suitable breeding ground for jehadi groups — because the Congress is perversely obsessed with a bizarre brand of secularism — and unless you decide to act and strengthen your intelligence grid, Asom will remain the best choice for jehadi groups. I was shcoked by the reponse by the citizens of Guwahati, towards the blasts. I support their response. Atleast, Tarun Gogoi was compelled to accept the truth and not come out with some spin.
This blast yet again underlines the urgent need to adopt a hardline approach towards Muslim terrorism. The answer is HINDU UNITY, we must drop all our differences and come together under a single umbrella.

The other day I read an article where Pakistan Radio is calling hindus fundamentalists ? In a hindu fundamentalist India, the percentage of muslims have increased. But see, what is the fate of minorities especially hindus in Pakistan – they have evaporated from over 24% (in Pakistan – not Bangladesh where it was over 30%) to 1.5%. Then how we should call that kind of a feat ? I think there was a pact between India and Pakistan (Liaqut Ali Khan – Nehru Pact, if I correctly remember). But what has happened. The hindus just evaporated. Still hindus in India are fundamentalists. Now for this honourable Professor they are thrishul weilding hooligans. The saddest part is that India never protested for the atrocities perpetrated on hindus in Pakistan. They never do. Take the case of Malaysia when they told Karunanishi to lay off. But our government is at the beck and call of Christian and Muslim countries on the condition of minorities in India. We should have shown the guts to say to the Italians to lay off as Malaysia said. But we meekly surrendered. It seems now that we are ruled by proxy.
Yesterday in the 9 serial blasts over 61 persons were killed and more than 470 injured. After the tape recorded repeated ad nauseam after every blasts, everybody is silent. But in the media the priority is Malegao. After all they have to take care of the illegal immigrants for the purpose of vote bank.

Year by year the aim behind blasts seem to have become more strategic. Initially they were just a show of threat, then occasionally revenge, and then improved to strike at economic centers and talent pool. Now their strategy seems to be population decimation. They are trying to occupy areas by clearing the majority community from them. As this continues we can expect more reprisal attacks, in the form of riots and in the form of reprisal bomb blasts as alleged in Malegaon. If the terrorist threat is not checked it may lead to a situation which might be uncontrollable by the govt, since the majority community may feel it is up to them to protect themselves.

Why? ‘coz the govt. has abdicated its responsibility of protecting the nation & its citizens against external, and more so, as is evident from the recent spate of terrorists attacks all over the nation, internal threats. The ‘aam-admi’ simply stands bewildered @ the pusillanimity of the govt & more so @ its leadership in stopping these attacks…to him/her it simply exemplifies the notion that what the govt or rather the ruling coalition cares about is the ‘minority’ vote bank…the rest of the things affecting this nation, be it economy, terrorism, rising prices, deep evolving sense of helplessness as well as frustration of the citizens, they all can take a backseat…all because the govt. is fearful of provoking a backlash from the Muslim coomunity if it dares to take any action…to that ‘aam-aadmi’ its more like the govt is being held hostage by the radical elements of this ie Muslim as well as Christian community. If god forbid, the govt decides to take action & dares to arrest the ‘poor’ jihadis or the ‘peace-loving’ evangelists…it would have to answer to the foreign powers – ranging from Vatican, France, Italy all the way to Saudi Arabi , also to the secularwaadis…who will browbeat it into admitting that it failed to protect the ‘persecuted’ minorities…and the govt seems to care more about what these external powers as well as their internal agents, comfortably placed in all the stratas of the Indian society, think than what the Indian citizen, the ‘aam admi’ cares about!
BTW, isn’t it a coincidence, that one of the worst-ruled states in India, that basket-case, the communist bastion called Waste Bengal, never have had to suffer from none of these kind of attacks that other Indian cities have faced, esp. in the last four years! Setting the stage for an Emergency?
Consider Congress’ core competence in history:
Were the Sikh killings in 1984 not stage managed by the Congress? Were not the killings of RSS affiliates in 1948 in the name of Gandhi Hatya done by the Congress? The train that went from India to Pakistan during partition with hundreds of dead Muslims on board… people were convinced that Congress ordered those killings… it set the stage for a massive anti-hindu retaliation in Pakistan…
Consider the following scenario:
Congress hired goondas round up thousands Biharis in Mumbai and kills them in what is proclaimed as anti-north “riots.” North India explodes – destruction of property all over… Marathi people are targeted in other parts…
…would that not be a cause for emergency? Will marathi people not “beg” for an emergency? Will an average Indian not demand an emergency to stop the violence?

I have been reading about Kangress’ role in all the ills that plague India and the subsequent motivation to impose emergency because they can’t win 2009 elections.
I don’t think Kangress is so sick, irrational and short-sighted that it will dig its own grave. In today’s India of some internet penetration (not a large fraction of the population but still), other means of communication, more aware citizens and an India post 91 reforms, Kangress shouldn’t even dare to think about Emergency (parliament? judiciary?).
Yes the italian is insane and the manmohan mole singh is crazy. But emergency looks like a stamp on Kangress’ decline for sure. If they do it, India will be served better once it ends.
As far as Assam blasts are concerned, I hope some place near Shivraj Moron Patil’s is the next target.

An unknown organisation under the name of Islamic Student Federation-Indian Mujahideen (ISF-IM) on Friday evening claimed responsibility for Thursday’s bomb blasts in Assam.
Assam blasts toll rises to 71, dozen suspects held
An SMS claiming responsibility for the blast was sent to some of the media houses from a mobile number which was registered in Morirabari, Nagaon. The message not only claimed responsibility but also thanked those who participated in the act.
The message, which came from number 98646-93690, said: “We thank all our holy members and partners, Amin.”
Assam police have confirmed receipt of such message and confirmed that such an organisation did exist and was formed in 2002. The phone number was registered under the name of one Nazeer Ahmed, the police said.
The police and NSG are now investigating this angle.

Patience of Hindus being tested: Raghunandan Sharma
Bhopal, Oct 31 : Senior BJP leader and MP Raghunandan Sharma has charged the Maharashtra Government with planning a conspiracy to defame Hindus and divide them.
In a release issued by the BJP here, Mr Sharma said the Congress was providing protection to the Muslims and lodging false cases against Hindu outfits in order to defame them.
Referring to arrests related to Malegaon blast, he said the Congress had promoted Bhindranwale and Punjab had to face its ill-effects in the form of terrorism.
Mr Sharma appealed people to maintain calm and give fitting reply to those spreading venom in the country in a democratic manner.
