This was too funny to pass up from the current focus of the Congress’ betrayal of the aam admi, or maybe on second thoughts having Abhishek Singhvi for a spokesperson is betrayal of the aam admi.
So what is the latest hair brained idea to germinate from this minstrel, courtier and clown’s fertile and imaginative mind ?
Turn Sansad Bhavan into a time share.
In a supposedly serious op-ed piece Abhishek Singhvi makes this ludicruous suggestion
Is it subversive to suggest that the best constitutional model for governance in India should be a time-sharing of democracy?
One maybe forgiven to mistake this for some political satire of the Jug Suraiya variety but for the fact that the author passes for a Constitutional Lawyer and the official spokesperson of the party in power.
So once he reduces Sansad Bhavan to a Time-Share, what exactly is Abhishek Manu Singhvi proposing ?
?half-day sales pitches and free air tickets to Disneyland or the Casino Capitalism as his boss puts it
Well almost, if you are a party of 1 in the Lok Sabha, you could get your one day’s fame just like in Arabian Nights and Caliph Haroun al-Raschid’s hair-brained idea of being Caliph for one full day.
Here is how it works. The basic principle is that each party would get time to rule for a fixed duration within an overall five-year Lok Sabha life span in proportion to the seats they obtain. Thus, for example, party A which gets roughly 270 seats will form the government for approx two and a half years. Party B with 180 seats would rule for one-third of the five-year term and so on.
Now one may ask Mr. Singhvi what do you do for one seat wonders, wait a minute Mr. Singhvi is skilled not just in Theasurus but fractional arithmetic as well it appears.
Rule two would round off fractions to arrive at a rounded number of months for each party. Rule three would put a cut-off: only parties with more than 10 per cent of the total seats would be entitled to share in this rotational form of governance. All parties with less than 10 per cent seats would have to coalesce with those with the numbers to participate, if they can do so by consensus. Rule four would define parties to be only those which constitute pre-electoral declared alliances.
If you are still undecided whether to laugh or cry you may be forgiven.
This friends is the farce to which the Congress under Sonia Gandhi has been reduced to.
If this is what its most eminent spokesperson and voice on Constitutional Law can come up with as a fix to the flaws in Indian Democracy – god save the country.
But then Abhisek Singhvi leaves us doubting if this was written in jest or in seriousness for the “Subverse” section on Times of India can hardly be described as dedicated to political satire only.
Well here is a closing thought in the same subversive spirit
What happens when you mate Sonia Gandhi’s Absentee Leadership with Manmohan Singh’s Executive Delinquency in an extra-constitutional wedlock called the UPA ?
You end up with illegtimate triplets called Dysfunctional Governance, Communal Socialism and a Time-Sharing Parliament.
Offstumped will stop there and leave it to your imagination what a Menage-a-trois with Amar Singh’s fixing?will beget this nation of ours ……
Yours subversively

Man…my head hurts after reading this mumbo-jumbo spewed out by this ‘eminent jurist’ Abhishek Sanghvi…:( Is he smoking a joint or what? We all know that CON-gress, as a party and by that extension its thought process, has outsourced itself to the proxy Italian-Vatican alliance ruling the roost, but this hair-brained idea of turning Parliament (btw, this word actually means an assembly of owls, and owl is considered to be wise bird!) into timeshare is quite funny & satirical, if not considering that the fact that spokeperson of a major political party is behind it! BTW, who knows where this idea in reality might have originated from…as a result of desperate desire of the CON-gress to cling to power post-elections, its confabulations with the communal outfits about that scenario, might have resulted in germination of this weird idea! …that way, those small parties and groups with single or double digit MPs can also have a shot @ running the nation and get to implement their ideas & schemes while the going remains good!…thereby turning the task of running a govt & nation into a game of musical chairs! Whoa!!!
Pls have a look @ this video of NaMo, congratulating the scientist community @ ISRO, Ahemdabad, on the successful launch of Chandrayaan:
Really, what a gr8 leader…inspiring! This is the leader Bharatvarsh needs! I specially like his emphasis on science & technology, and his approach of encouraging, congratulating the scientists on this gr8 achievement!
Wonder, if we had NaMo 60 years back, how far Bharatvarsh would have progressed!
sootra, i sent u a mail, just check.

A rhetoric on Indian Democracy and Tolerance. Total sham. Does anyone know who this somini sengupta is ?. Cleverly put together, I mus say. These are the ones who have weakened India and they talk as if they dont know anything. Seriously folks, we should get hold of good media and journalists coming out of universities. Its high time.
@Sootra: We did have a NaMo then, he was called Sardar Patel.
MK Dhar, ex joint director IB says that details in malegaon case are missing.
http://www.rediff.com/news/2008/oct/29inter.htm
What are your views on the Malegaon incident in which a Sadhvi was arrested?
No one is saying anything clearly. What is happening is that the Muslims allege that they are being maligned. Now parties which depend on the Muslim vote are finding it difficult to secure those votes. Another fact is that the BJP and its allies seem to be on a better footing to face the forthcoming elections. Hence it seems as though this is an attempt to reflect terror on the BJP. Let the noise regarding this case settle down and then the truth will come out.
The economic dream team or economic hit men.

Firms seen cutting jobs by 25% in next 10 days: Assocham
NEW DELHI: Indian firms are likely to lay off a quarter of their employees in the next 10 days, as part of steps to contain costs in the face of shrinking margins amidst the economic turmoil, an industry body said on Wednesday.
Trade body Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) said the job cuts would be across the steel, cement, construction, real estate, aviation, IT-enabled services and financial services sectors.
Expansion has slowed in Asia’s third-largest economy in the last two quarters, from the 8 percent or more annual growth in the past four years, with high interest rates crimping demand and on the global financial crisis.
The Reserve Bank of India last week cut its forecast for growth in 2008/09 to 7.5-8 percent from its earlier view of 8 percent. This compares with the economy’s 9 percent growth in 2007/08.
“Employers have no other alternatives as part of their corporate strategy … for sustaining their operations with squeezed margins (even) after after drastic cost cutting measures,” ASSOCHAM said in a statement.
Last week, realty firm Parsvnath Ltd said it would axe “non-performing” employees, as it was facing slowing sales.
Top private carrier Jet Airways had sacked 1,900 employees mid-October, citing declining demand and high fuel costs, but reinstated them days later on protests and political pressure.
With economy in doldrums Congress ka band baaja bajne waala hai.
BJP has to highlight this in the upcoming elections.
Dream Team …my ass….
These two guys have messed up big time.
PC in particular, why dosent he accept that the country is in deep shit. His continous denials are hurting our economic prospects more then the global slow down.
Trust me mates, PC is the most hated guy today on Dalal Street…
Liar…is what he is…..
I do not know how reliable this website is. It is called politicsparty and it says that some high profile BJP leaders will be arrested for malegaon bombs.
http://www.politicsparty.com/news_summary.php
If this happens, this will be similiar to Hawala charges against opposition including Advani in 1996. BJP has to have a strategy for this.
arjun – we know how that one ended, if this is true we are in for some interesting times.
Yossarin,
Given how bad things are for Congress, they might do something like that for minority votes and to deflect attention from the economy and problems in Maharashtra. BJP needs to beready with a strategy.
This politcsparty website has some weird stuff on its website as well, like Israel attacking Iran in October. So I do not know how reliable that is. But it is reasonable to assume that BJP leadership must have information on this.
arjun – they are speculating based on what the PP said in court or outside the court
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/mumbai-cops-seek-govts-nod-to-probe-lt-cols-role/77036-3-p1.html
Yossarin, I hope so. Because arresting top BJP leaders would political suicide for the congress.
And add to this, Blasts in Guwahati.. Breaking news.
Where is Mr. Singhvi’s italian boss ?
Well any new blasts will blamed on the BJP and Hindu outfits.
I dont know what is wrong with the BJP. They are getting attacked from all sides and all they do is get defensive. if the others are playing dirty games, what stops the BJP from being proactive and win the propaganda war. They need to step up to the plate. the common man is smart enough to understand what the congressis and the like are doing but not repsonding to the crap being dished out is adharmic. For heavens, BJP get your act together. I think all of us on the blog will have to resign our jobs and volunteer for the BJP. We seem to have more ideas than the party.
I am sure blasts in Assam is work of Bangladeshi Muslims who have recently disrupted life of native Bodos. They are trying to blame it on some outlaws like they have blamed maoists for swami laxmanananda’s murder.
Wonder what the people who were screaming Hindu terror are going to say now?
Yossarin,
I’d not laugh Mr Singhvi off. At least, he acknowledges that there is a problem, and is exercising his thinking faculties to arrive at a solution. Not what you’d expect from a Congressman, is it?
He identifies the problem correctly:
>>One of the major ills of the present system is the absence of consensus or a highly fragmented and fractured consensus. Instability, regionalism, a mad hankering for power are attendant consequences along with the well-known four Cs: criminalisation, communalism, casteism and corruption
but the solution is truly illogical:
>>This model eliminates the mad rat race for power as all parties with the requisite numbers get a share of the power pie
In other words, he is suggesting that the problems engendered by “mand hankering for power” are solved by gifting that power to the hankerers! The solution to robberies then would be aloowing the thrives to rob on certain days of the year; rape can be solved by stipulating that no more than one rape per year maybe committed by the rapist etc etc. Of course, political power is not a criminal act like robbery or rape, but why do politicians hanker after power anyway? For the salaries they earn as MLA’s and ministers?
But Singhvi made a good start in identifying the problem. Let’s give him credit for that.
Venkatesh:
>>We seem to have more ideas than the party (BJP).
Haha. How I miss Varsha Bhsole. Her jibes against BJP were actually her best writing.
Here’s the irony. This party arguably has the support of the largest chunk of the educated population in the country. Yet it cannot put together even an articulate verbal defence to save its life if it has to. How can anyone rely on it to save _his_ neck?
I see two possibilities here:
1) Abhishek Singhvi has some serious neurotic problem he had neglected for long
or
2) Abhishek Singhvi is offering bribe openly to all the political parties because after the almost-5-year debacle called UPA, he has lost hope of sitting on the right side of speaker in the lok sabha in his life time
@ Ot
Well said. BJP’s is not at all good at presenting things when it matters most, except some rare instances. Thats inspite of having the likes of Sushma Jaitley Modi Advani Atal and once upon a time Govindacharya.
Varsha Bhosle had to leave because of Rediff’s willingness to bend and bend and bend. From what has been discussed publically, Sahmat and Rediff’s head are good friends, hence Bhosle was kicked out. Sad !!
She would have made Singhvi look as smart as Rakhi Sawant and Sonia as big a threat to India as Dawood/Verappan.
