The famed 5 e-mails from the Indian Mujahideen have been making all the news as media and public attention have been turned away from an earlier less reported and even less investigated event.
For weeks now Offstumped has been researching in collaboration with others the unexplained 6th email which was sent on the 31st July 2008.
This e-mail was sent from the same email id alarbi_gujarat@yahoo.com that was used to send the Ahmedabad Blasts email however it was by faking the from address using SMTP instead of using the Yahoo web mail account directly.
The contents of this email have been sparsely reported in the media and have mainly to do with a bomb threat to India TV News.
Now along comes news that the latest e-mail from the Indian Mujahideen has text lifted from an article on thehoot.org, a delhi based Indian News watchdog (first brought to Offstumped’s attention by Prasanna).
Now the news story in the HT on this also alludes to the fact the thehoot.org is not a well known site, a fact attested to by this blogger for not having heard of thehoot before this. So it stands to reason that the lifting of the text may not have happened from thehoot.org directly but from other sites that reproduced the original article on thehoot.
Strangely enough less than 20 sites have reproduced this original article and first amongst them is countercurrents.org, a radical left leaning Communal Socialist rag-tag packed with prominent apologists for Islamists like Ram Puniyani, Shabnam Hashmi?and others.
Now here comes the clincher, this is where the 6th e-mail is important.
That e-mail did not originate from yahoo instead it originated from a U.S. based Internet Hosting Company called DreamHost.com.

So whats the connection here ?

with the fact that one of the emails from the Indian Mujahideen also originated from the same hosting site as CounterCurrents,
with the fact that it also prominently carried thehoot article which contributed content to the latest e-mail
it raises damning questions if there exists?a nexus?between someone at CounterCurrents and the Indian Mujahideen ?
Offstumped demands that DreamHost.com be asked to verify the source of the 6th e-mail and CounterCurrents and its prominent apologists be investigated to establish if indeed someone may have been inspiring the Terrorists in private while they apologize for them in public.

Would it be wrong to assume that the contest of this post were available to IM before it was published?

According to the Behavourist perspective of Psychology, processes of socialization greatly influence behaviour. The agents of socialization include family, school and the media. The media has a profound impact on peoples’ emotions and behaviour.
Terrorists dont have much of a chance of using families and schools to influence peoples’ behaviour. This is where the media comes in. As influencing peoples’ thoughts is the singular objective of terrorism, using voices in the media assumes great importance. I even go to the extent of saying that the entire planning and execution of an attack becomes a failure if the media is not favourably manipulated.
I write this to emphasize the supreme importance of media management in the struggle against terrorism. I dont mean to say the govt. should implement bans or controls. The govt. should monitor all media houses, their contacts, their sources of funds and their activities surrounding terrorism. The govt. must also have a team of authors who would write articles in the country’s major newspapers as counterterrorist propaganda.
Terrorism is a psychological phenomenon in which the media plays the central role. How the media is managed, both by the terrorists as well as the government, decides the ultimate outcome of terrorism. The real battlefield of the War on Terrorism is the media. Words and images, not guns and bombs, are the weapons.

The Termites of India has launched a campaign to demonstrate its secularism — meaning, Hindu-baiting and India-baiting have become the order of the day in the paper. Bhubaneswar(Orissa): The Biju Janata Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party have convincingly won the civic polls across the State and registered their supremacy ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha and Assembly polls slated for next year. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the party would continue to work for the people. “We have been able to maintain our number 1 position in the State,” said Patnaik.
Out of the total 1,518 seats, BJD emerged winner in 586 wards, followed by main opposition Congress which got 431 seats and the BJP which won in 287 wards. The BJD and BJP will now enter into alliance to jointly get into power in a majority of civic bodies.
Besides, a total of 188 wards were won by Independent candidates, while Samajwadi Party got 11 seats, Nationalist Congress Party bagged 10 seats, CPI and JMM got two seats each, and one was won by BSP.
Interestingly, the BJD-BJP alliance won the Anandpur Municipality with comfortable majority. Anandapur is the home turf of Pradesh Congress Committee president Jaydev Jena.
Elections to the Phulbani Municipality and G. Udaygiri NAC were postponed as prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were in force in the whole of Kandhamal as peace was yet to be restored in most parts of the district.
There were also heavy rains in most parts of the State during the last few days of the election campaign that ended on the evening of September 17.
A day before the polls, the State Election Commission deferred the polls in Boudh NAC owing to floods.On the day of polling, polls were also deferred in some wards of Athmalik NAC as floodwater entered the areas.

While that is true,most of the people who commented on the story would form part of the non voting class.
Giving vent to our frustration is all right, but it is critical that we try and do something about these issues, if we truly care. One small step is to go and vote. Please see that I just can’t understand how a website cuold be of terrorist’s just coz they are hosted with Dreamhost, which is a very popular hosting serivice provider among Indian site owners. (there could be millions of Indian sites & blogs with different shades, and colors hosted with them).

As already mentioned in an earlier post, “userid 1473975″ is the user_id on the unix box hosting this website that was used to send this mail.
Doing a reverse IP on tejava.dreamhost.com, I found it is a Name-based virtual hosting server. For the uninitiated, it means this webserver hosts several websites on the same IP address. Below is the list of all web sites hosted on this ip address. Of these, one-god-one-message.org and halascs.com could also be of interest.

Dreamhost users access their websites through a webpanel (https://panel.dreamhost.com/) using a Web_Id OR email address and a password.
There is another link to access the webmail (http://mailboxes.dreamhost.com). For webmail access the user name is an email address in the form username@dreamhost.com. username to access the webmail is most likely the same as Web_Id (to keep user configuration streamlined for dreamhost).
It is very unlikely for anyone out of blue to crack the username as well as the password for countercurrents.org website. Most likely the email has been sent via the webmail interface.
If throughly investigated this e-mail may conclusively establish the links between underground jihadis (simi, IM, lasker, huji, …) and their overground apologists (sabrang, counter currents, SACW, …).
By not seriously investigating this email, UPA govt has reaffirmed their apathy towards investigating islamic terror incidents.
