Kashmir “needed” a nationalist and federalist response

But Manmohan Singh slept through all of those opportunities.

Offstumped on 3rd November 2007- Emergency in Frankensteinistan

the chaos in Pakistan is an opportunity for India to move on Jammu and Kashmir. A Frankenstein Nation governed by a discredited regime has forfeited what little stakes it had to join the party in shaping Kashmir’s destiny. The events in Pakistan must leave a lasting impression on those Kashmiri minds that nurtured foolish hopes of? a future with Pakistan. The message from Islamabad is loud and clear, there can be no meaningful future with Pakistan as Pakistan itself grapples with questions about its future. The waning violence and a willing Hurriyat open to the idea of contesting elections are a signal for India that now is the time to make concrete moves on Kashmir. ?By weaning?away the moderates to corner the extremists, the Manmohan Singh’s UPA Government must get over its paralysis on the Indo-US Nuclear Deal to exploit this moment of truth.

Offstumped again on 3rd Nov 2007 – Restoring pre-1953 status to J&K

except for a few areas where reasonable compromise can be considered? and expected by both sides, the proposal to restore Pre-1953 status to Jammu and Kashmir merits serious attention and public debate. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must set the ball rolling on this by reaching out to the BJP to take this debate forward. By offering a framework for true federalism this proposal not only has the potential to find common ground in J&K but also allow Indian States to lay claim to autonomy that is rightfully theirs. With nationalists like Narendra Modi advocating autonomy for states in sharing of tax revenues, this may be an idea who’s time has come.

So we have the Congress commiting this blunder, but the BJP should introspect as well on its end game here for a nationalist movement in Jammu without a federalist sub-text directed towards Kashmir, does little to address the reality of the Jammu versus Kashmir conundrum we face today.

Offstumped on 29th June

The most effective role for the BJP to play here would be to get on the right side of the Kashmir issue by emerging as the only trustworthy player in Indian Politics when it comes to States Rights and Autonomy for States to make socio-economic choices. With its track record in creating smaller states, refereeing a credible election in J&K that saw the PDP emerge and the Vajpayee Government’s success in manging Center-State relations, the BJP has the resume to come up with such a proposal on States Rights and Autonomy for States to make socio economic choices. Will the BJP rise to the occassion and play a positive role in seeding the right political debate in Kashmir or will it succumb to the temptation of reducing the debate in Kashmir to the Amarnath issue ?

Once again to be-labor the point at the risk of sounding redundant

The need of the hour was a Nationalist Response that would be unequivocal in its rejection of “preservation of muslim majority” nature of Kashmir on the grounds that it is incompatible with the idea of a Secular India.

The need of the hour was also a Federalist Response that would be bold and imaginative in its advocacy of the Autonomous Rights of States from Kashmir to Gujarat with the freedom to make Socio-Economic choices.

Offstumped Bottomline: Masterful Inaction cannot be a substitute for courage, conviction and bold imagination. By doing neither the UPA Government is aiding and abetting brinkmanship in the Valley to produce more martyrs who in turn will breed the next generation of separatists.

Congress has completely messed up Kashmir. It is not only guilty on inaction, but also responsible for reversing whatever was gained by NDA government through peace-building measures and free-fair elections.

BJP, as yossarin, says should play positive role by justifying autonomy to make socio-economic choices. But BJP should strongly oppose everything from article 370 to idea of muslim majority. I am of opinion that their should be no compromise on amarnath land allocation also, because it pertain to larger issue of persistent muslim appeasement and discrimination against hindus by UPA government.

  2. sud says:

Would be nice if bhajpa makes removal of article 370 a non-negotiable part of its manifesto (i.e. NDA members have no option but to support it to remain NDA members).

Mean what you say and say what you think – w/o mincing words.

LKA seems to have given up his attempts to spin his image into some sickular-lite figure (started with that jinnah madness, wanting to be as acceptable as the ‘moderate’ ABV). Perhaps, the intensity and sincerity of the jammuites protest, that has done proud many a nationalist heart, has had impact where it matters?

Time to use overt religious symbolism to mobilize the yindu masses. Such as bricks from every state going to Ayodhya and maha-artis in mumbai. Let tilak, trishul and kesariya become the new banner of the coming nationalist tide.

  3. Tathagata Mukherjee says:

The UPA is in complete limbo- not able to take any action to defuse the crisis.

The very moment you see this Home Minister, your confidence goes down.

Pranab Mukherjee tactfully managed the brief after first all party meeting- HE NEVER UTTERED THE WORD “BLOCKADE”. Patil goofed up bigtime in Srinagar and even promised compensation when there was no blockade in the first place.

    Sonia, Rahul is keeping mum.

Its going to spiral out of control soon.

I hope, BJP plays its card tactfully. No question of surrendering Amarnath land.

Congress will try to paint BJP as the villian and try to portray itself as the party that is thinking of India’s progress taking nuclear deal and other measures it will annouce on Aug 15.

BJP has to careful and balance the Amarnath agitation with the aspirations of the masses which is growth and progress. It also has to communicate better the reasons for Amarnath agitation. It is just not a religious thing but has long term implications for the country. The caving in to separatists/fundamentalists in Kashmir needs to clubbed with pussyfooting on the terror issue as well as support for SIMI in the UPA constituents.

One thing I notice is that there is a lot of clutter and confusion in the political environment of the country and in the midst of the dejection, somehow BJP is not able to project itself as an alternative. At least that’s the impression one gets from the MSM. We know MSM gets it wrong and I hope that is the case. There are some good moves regarding getting new allies. RLD, Vijaya Shanti, TRS being a few that have been talking to the BJP.

Maybe BJP will ratchet up its propaganda once it is closer to elections but it has to articulate its vision clearly.

Meanwhile, Brahmins in Chattisgarh give BJP sleepless nights. BJP needs to take care of people who vote for them. Mere “suraj” is not enough.

    Shivanand Shukla | Raipur

The Chhattisgarh BJP is worried about the Brahmin community which did not find a place in the State Cabinet or “satisfactory” position in the organisation. What has come to worry the saffron more is the Congress and the BSP of the State trying to enlist support of this community.

A Comprehensive Note on Jammu & Kashmir

The terms “Kashmir” and “Muslim” are often loosely, and erroneously, used when referring to the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has deliberately fostered this misrepresentation to stake its claim to what it terms a “Muslim State”.

Indeed, the State of Jammu and Kashmir has a Muslim majority but is by no means a homogenous religious or ethnic entity. Like the rest of India, it represents a mosaic of different religions, different ethnic groups and cultures as do many other States of India.

Indian politicians selling out the country
Look at this rape of Indias resources. And mining rights have been sold to the British – why? No wonder these guys are joining the naxals. We are destroying forests, natural resources etc (recall, US will not touch it’s national forests, even though they have oil reserves underneath). Who is allowing our forests to be cut? Guys, we have to stop this nonsense. Have you seen mining areas. Locals are dirt poor and never benefit. Our forests are already gone http://www.ibnlive.com/news/next-nandigram-orissa-tribes-fight-mining-giant/71081-3.html?from=rssfeed
London / Orissa: The Dongriya Kondhs a primitive tribal group in Orissa are up in arms. They have alleged they are being harassed in an attempt to evict them from their land and forests to give way to a Rs 4,000 crore project to mine bauxite by UK-based mining company, Vedanta.

The apex court has finally given permissions for the forests to be cleared for mining.

The Niyamgiri forests is home to tigers, leopards and over 100 species of plants. But with mining, over 1.2 lakh trees will be destroyed and 32 streams which originate in the Niyamgiri hills will dry up.

For the Kondhs who live off the forests the losses will be many. For these people, it is a daily trek of four kms to the forest. With the forests of Niyamgiri gone, the trek will increase to 10 kms daily.

The protests against the mining project have now spread from Kalahandi to the streets of London.

Tribal leaders travelled to London to highlight that mining the Niyamgiri forest – which they consider sacred – would be like demolishing the St Paul’s Cathedral, a landmark for London city.

Campaigners want Vedanta shareholders to put pressure on the company to withdraw its mining plans in the Niyamgiri mountains.

Back in Orissa, the battlelines are squarely drawn. Vedanta claims it will bring development to a backward region, but with the cutting down of massive forests, the Dongriya Kondhs are asking whose development is this anyway? And who will it really benefit?

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Opinion/Editorial/Douse_The_Fire/articleshow/3362175.cms

To begin with it must firmly urge the BJP to call off its dogs in Jammu. Contrary to their calculations there is limited political capital that can be gained from any further agitation. Most importantly, the BJP needs to be firmly reminded that continued troubles in Jammu will only inflame passions further in the Valley and feed directly into the hands of the otherwise hapless regime in Islamabad. Unless the government can lower the temperature in Jammu it will be impossible to prevent them from rising in the Valley.

  30. Jiggs says:

ONE COUNTRY, ONE GOVERNMENT, ONE LEADER….

BJP must stick to this come what happens. We have tried being pacifists and we are seeing the result of 60 years of such practices.

Indians are thought to be the most docile individuals. There blood is the most expendable.

This has to change and who would do it better then our very own BJP:

    1) Implement the Common Civil Code
    2) Scrap the 370 bull crap
    3) Introduce up an anti conversion law
    4) Free the security agencies from political meddling.
    5) Control the unchecked growth of regional parties.

I firmly believe that terrorists and their sympathizers will take their near and dear ones into confidence, before committing such an atrocity. After all in Islam the idea to glorify such a martyr(cold blooded murderer) is to bring in more such stupid youths to further commit such atrocities.

So, haul in the entire family, It may sound harsh, but if the family knows, that means they are conspirators.

Set chilling examples to send shivers thru their spines.

I read some where that SIMI tells its cadres that we are governed by the Quran and not the Indian Constitution, so lets force down the rule book down their throats.

The Taliban Deputy PM of Afghanistan in 1993 made a speech on a visit to Pakistan, wherein he mentioned ” WE KNOW NO BOUNDARIES, JIHAD HAS TO BE FOUGHT WHEREVER UMMAH IS THERE, WE ARE JUST MUHAJIDEEN AND WE WILL FIGHT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD”

    Happy Independence Day!

I got this by e-mail from someone else adn wil be sending it to every Indian I know. Typically, I do not post things like this. However, I felt that this one is worth posting and suggesting others that they forward this information to ERVERY INDIAN THEY KNOW. So here it is:

Holy Amarnath – The Land Controversy

Transfer of Land for Facilities for Hindu Pilgrimas

The J&K Government transferred nearly 40 hectares of forest land in Baltal area to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board on lease for Rs. 23.1 million (Rs.2.3 crore).

The land was required to create temporary structure to provide facilities to the
    pilgrims.

The structures were to be in place only for two months every year.

Kashmiri Mulsims’ Protest against Land Allocation

Kashmiri Muslims especially the separatist elements launched a protest against
    the land transfer.

Security forces were attacked and National Flag was burnt.

Pakistani Flag was hoisted at Lal Chowk.

The entire valley shouted “Hindustan Hai-Hai”, “We want Freedom”, “We will
share land with Hindus over our dead bodies” and “Pakistan Zindabad”.

    Haj Subsidy

The Haj subsidy in 2006 was Rs.348 crore.

The muslim pilgrim to Jeddah pays Rs.12,000 for a return ticket. The actual cost of
the ticket is Rs. 46,000. The difference is funded by the Union Government.

The Indian government has a Haj Office in the Indian Consulate in Jeddah, runs a
hospital in Mecca and dispensaries in Mecca and Madinah, and sends doctors, nurses and para-medical staff to run these medical establishments during the pilgrimage.

In addition, the Government has sanctioned eight ambulances and medicines for
    pilgrims who fall ill.

The Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh has taken this policy of minorityism
a step further and announced subsidy for Christians who wish to visit Bethlehem,
    the birthplace of Jesus.

    The Double Standards….

However in India, Hindu pilgrims to the Amarnath Shrine do not qualify for grant
of a few acres of land along the yatra route for provision of basic amenities.

JOIN THE PROTEST of JAMMU AND CONDEMN JnK Govt.

If we lose this battle, we will lose the country to Islamic forces.

Support the movement. Forward this presentation to all your friends and people you know.

Don’t sleep please forward it, J&K minorities (Hindus and Sikhs) need your help !!!
