Offstumped is Live Blogging this post as Rajdeep Sardesai starts his Confessions on the Notes for Votes Scandal that saw the Manmohan Singh lead UPA Government win a tainted victory during the Confidence Motion as well as the BJP boycott CNN-IBN for not airing the tapes to the public.
So what is Rajdeep’s excuse ?
Investigations were not completed despite which the 3 MPs went to Parliament to display the cash and made their allegations public.
Rajdeep is taking cover under the excuse that airing incomplete tapes would have meant compromising journalistic standards.
Rajdeep is also invoking legal cover from a letter by Harish Salve that telecasting the tapes then would have interfered with the investigation.
10 minutes into the broadcast Rajdeep is still going on and on about “why no telecast ?”

- then go to Le Meredien to meet unnamed senior Congress leader
- No-show at Le Meredien
- CNN-IBN journo returns to Ashok Argal’s house at 10pm told meeting fixed with senior SP leader by a middleman
- Senior SP leader was Reoti Raman Singh who would negotiate the horse trading
- Meeting at midnight of 21st July, CNN-IBN disclaimer not involved in entrapment just recording
- Man named Suhail is introduced as the middleman
- Reoti Raman Singh arrives, asks if conversation should be private, his associates leave the room
- Reoti Raman Singh convincing the BJP MPs to go to Amar Singh’s house with a “Hum hai na” assurance
- More talk on the amount, consistent with the transcript released by the BJP earlier last week.
- Reoti Raman Singh reiterates multiple times “come with me, if you like the deal accept it else refuse”
- Reoti Raman Singh leaves asking Suhail to continue the convincing
Sardesai closes the first act and then tries to deflect the story on the BJP saying why motivated the BJP to do this, were the MPs being directed by their party leadership ?

Sardesai is back trying to deflect the questions once again on the BJP with silly issues like why didnt the MPs go to a police station.
?Many silly attempts at making this look open ended, Sardesai is back to re-running the tapes.
Offstumped Bottomline: Sardesai has reconfirmed that he lacks the intellectual clarity and moral certitude to conclude the investigation. Sticking to his fly on the wall stance, his channel seems to have spent all the time to provide Amar Singh with enough facetime to repeat bare faced lies while doing little to establish corroborating evidence in the form of?phone records.

So they indirectly agree they pay MPS to change over the Party as well irrespective of trust vote or any other “do or die” situation
I didn’t expect anything other than this kinda hogwash from Sardesai…I just wonder as to why we cannot learn from the track records of vermins like Rajdeep, why to have our hopes raised that people like him will, once for the sake of truth/dharma, do what is indeed right for this nation and democracy as a whole.
If we keep falling for the chicanery & deception perfected in some sort of art form by the likes of Sardesai & his ilk, we will keep on ending up with being lead up the garden path everytime this kinda episodes happen.
BTW, methink this is another tactic of IBN & its political masters to divert attention from the Amarnath controversy as well as its after play in Jammu.

It is obvious that the best way to play down a story, is to show it on a day when something else is a bigger story. So the timing of airing the scandal today is to ensure that the cash-for-votes tapes don’t grab enough eyeballs, as nobody might be interested in watching shady political deals, on a day, when an Indian in Beijing has made an entire nation proud.
Soardesai, the weasel, can just not be trusted.

SP is not the only party which is guilty. Remember, “Congress Insiders” were giving a minute by minute update of the numbers they had, to all news channels (which turned out to be close to the actual figure). It is quite obvious that they were in cahoots with the SP. And that could not have happened without the person blessings of MMS and Sonia Gandhi.
Both the Congress and the SP should be defeated for the new level of moral vacuum they have introduced.
I think tonight is going to be very important for BJP. I am eager to see how Advaniji responds to what had happened and the course of action. And more importantly, tonight will show a direction on how BJP should take its case to the public.

Would CNN IBN reveal how much crore they have taken from the Govt. not to telecasr this tape earlier and now telecasting the tape with comments from the journalist recorded the tape actually trying to prve that there is not enough evidence to know who has given the money? This must be disclosed by the self proclaimed best channel which follow journalistic ethics.

I had only read on the net that IBN CNN is a Congress sponsored channel but today it has been proved beyond any iota of doubt with the long withheld “Cash foe Votes” scam tapes/CDs. the reason of this delay in telecast is evident now; it takes time to doctor tapes to suit a special purpose!
In spite of his claim that it is ‘the real story, anybody can make out that how painstakingly the channel has altered/doctored and maneuvered the audio/video of the said tapes to suit the purpose of the corrupt Congress government and shady people like Amar Singh. His well rehearsed script as a presenter of this program betrays the amount of labor the channel has put in to virtually exonerate Amar Singh and Revati Sharan, the main players. Alas! Rajdeep’s grand effort came to a naught due to the gaping holes in the absurdities he has indulged in the course of his attempt to help Mr. Amar singh & party/ Congress go off the hook. Always remember while truth has feet of steel, lies have feet of clay as in the case of Rajdeep here.
How conveniently and ridiculously he thought that the audience is gullible enough to accept the carefully engineered, very meaningful audio drops(‘inaudible audio follows’) at crucial moments when presumably something concrete was said or discussed about Congress, Amar Singh or cash for votes. it is sunbelievale that how the same video shot by the same IBN CNN team in Argals’ home becomes grainy in the presence of the culprits and become crystal clear in their absence. How innocently, albeit as a part of greater conspiracy to hide facts that can nail his friends in SP and Congress the channel has edited the video of the car and made the ibn cnn reporter who was supposed to be working in close tandem with the BJP MPS say that he didn’t see the BJP MPs enter Amar Singh’s home! What a sinister lie hard to digest as it is as such!
The channel’s facade is over and Rajdeep Sardesai and his channel stands in the open thoroughly exposed and discredited. By indulging in such unethical lies to help the corrupt, the channel has proved that it is as anti-national as the corrupt people it tends to protect and help. What a shame!

I agree with all of you on one thing that the timing of the tapes being aired is noteworthy. This is being done on orders of the government to deflect attention from the ongoing crisis in J & K, to be more explicits to save the separatists and the Jihadis.
I did not expect much from the tapes, more especially the Amar Singh and Ahmed Patel evidence is doctored and erased. No question about it.
People like Rajdeep has to know one thing, that there is only one god and he is the same for everone of us and we all have to answer him for our acts in our lifetime.
Fellas…GOD will take our revenge on vermins like Rajdeep, he will suffer at some point in his lifetime and will suffer miserably.
Cnn ibn showed Amar sing the tapes even before the parliment commitee viewing it in its first sitting.

What is Congress’s game in exposing corruption changes on Lalu through the same poodle channel?

Kans – i read that, not worth responding too. Its clear the boycott hit where it hurts and they are bleeding.
The strangest part in all this is why arent the actual journalists from CNN-IBN who conducted the sting operation, coming forward and giving their first hand report? Wasnt this done in the case of the Tehelka Gujarat sting, which was incidentally a big flop?

Seema SirohiSeema Sirohi is a Washington based correspondent and an authoritative columnist for the Indian weekly Outlook. She was born in New Delhi. She completed her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from St Stephen’s College and joined Jawaharlal Nehru University for a master’s in Sociology. She went on to study journalism at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and returned to India to pursue a career. While she was at Associated Press, New Delhi she covered some major stories including Indira Gandhi’s assassination, the Bhopal gas leak and India’s intervention in Sri Lanka.
She moved to Washington in 1998 and joined Inter Press Service for a year where she wrote about US policy towards Asia and Africa. She became the Washington correspondent for The Telegraph in 1989, writing political stories, analytical pieces and tracking the difficult relationship between India and the United States for eight years. She returned to India for three years and researched her book Sita’s Curse, Story of Dowry Victims.
In the first book of its kind, Seema Sirohi gives voice to six dowry victims and retraces their lives, without the abstraction of theory. She also shows how, if the victims tried to bring their tormentors to justice, they faced a backlash from the male-dominated establishment.

As many posters on this forum, urs truly included, have suggested time-n-again that BJP should start its own channel, then it would have an effective medium to counter the propoganda of the likes of CNN-IBN and would more effectively be able to project its own views & perspective on numerous issues facing the nation, w/o its voice drowning in the cacaphony of pseudo-intellectual rhetoric.
BTW, one of posters earlier had posted a link to an Outlook article mentioning that VHP was starting its own channel, but I guess, owing to the ‘communal’ nature of the news, the aforesaid article was missing on Outlook’s website. So much for objective reporting from the dhimmi-media, of which Vinod Mehta (ex-Debonair) happens to be a leading light…;)
