Salient points in the speech by? Shri L.K. Advani Leader of the Opposition (Lok Sabha)
AT YUVA KRANTI RALLY Organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha
New Delhi ? 9 August 2008
Shri Rajnath Singhji; Shri Amit Thakar, President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha; other leaders on the dais; all the Yuva Morcha delegates who have come from various parts of India; my dear sisters, brothers and young party workers,
My hearty greetings to all of you.
The Olympic Games have begun in Beijing yesterday. At the outset, I join all of you in sending our best wishes to Indian participants in the Games. May they return with glory and success.

Today is 9th August. It is a sacred day. It is a revolutionary day. This day is recorded in golden letters in the history of India?s Independence Movement. On this very day in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi had given a call for ?Quit India?. The mass movement that began on that day culminated, five years later, in India?s independence on 15th August 1947.
Six days from now, we shall celebrate the 61st anniversary of India?s Independence Day. But we must remember that it was 9th August that paved the way for 15th August.
We must also remember that, at the start of the ?Quit India Movement?, Mahatma Gandhi had given another slogan: ?Do or Die?. What was its meaning? It meant that freedom was not possible without struggle, without sacrifice and without martyrdom.
Today, when thousands of youth have assembled here for the Yuva Kranti Rally, I would like to affirm that the time to take to the path of struggle has come once again.
? Struggle for India?s unity and integrity.
? Struggle for India?s national security; especially, internal security. Struggle to save India from the scourge of terrorism and naxalism.
? Struggle for the economic security of the aam aadmi. Struggle to protect the livelihoods of common people from the assault of unprecedented price rise.
? Struggle for employment, education and bright future for our youth, who are our Nation?s richest resource.
? Struggle to save our kisans and rural areas from the growing crisis in agriculture.
? Struggle to save democracy, to protect our cherished democratic institutions from those who recently converted India?s Parliament into a market for horse-trading.
I would like to add here that the time has also come to protect the country?s politics from those who harbour an anti-Hindu mindset.
Ours is a vast country with many diversities. India?s national culture has always shown respect to every faith and every community, irrespective of whether it is small or large. Sadly, a new trend of vote-bank politics has taken root in our country which thrives on hatred and exclusion of some community or the other.
Thus, for example, some people in Maharashtra think that they will benefit politically by cultivating an anti-North Indian mindset. Similarly, attempts are being made to cultivate a mindset against this or that caste, this or that religious community to consolidate one?s own vote bank. This is not in our national interest.
Now Congress and some other parties have begun to think that they can benefit politically by promoting an anti-Hindu mindset. This is clearly evident in the recent developments in Kashmir. A similar anti-Hindu mindset was also evident in the Congress-led UPA Government?s approach towards the Ram Sethu issue.
This anti-Hindu mindset, and the politics based on this mindset, must be defeated. Which is why, we wholeheartedly support the courageous struggle of the people of Jammu under the banner of the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samithi.

The people of Jammu have been agitating for many days now. There is intense anger among Hindus in other parts of the country, too. Why?
The Amarnath Caves in Kashmir are a sacred pilgrimage centre for Hindus. Tens of thousands of pilgrims from all parts of the country go on Amarnath Yatra every year. It is a very difficult yatra. The caves are at a height of over 13,000 ft. Pilgrims have to trek over a long distance through a harsh terrain.
Young people like you can bear the difficulties during the yatra. But what about others? Don?t they need basic amenities? Shouldn?t considerations of their safety be addressed?
Which is why, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir constituted the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board by an act of the state legislature. The state?s Governor is its chairman. The Board made a request for land for pilgrims? amenities. The State Government decided to transfer 100 acres of land to provide amenities for pilgrims by erecting temporary structures.
The Government was not that of the BJP. It was a Congress-PDP coalition Government. It was a sound decision. Naturally, it was widely welcomed.
However, suddenly there was a wave of protests in Kashmir Valley, inspired by foreign forces known for their anti-India stance. The protestors demanded reversal of the Government?s decision by claiming that it would change the demographic profile of Kashmir and threaten Kashmir?s identity.
It was a ridiculous claim. How can Kashmir?s identity be threatened by the erection of temporary structures on just 100 acres of land for provision of basic amenities, and that too for only two months in a year?
What is Kashmir?s identity any way? Isn?t Kashmir an integral part of India?
But the Congress-led Government in Srinagar surrendered before anti-India forces. The Congress-led Government in New Delhi gave its green signal for the State Government?s surrender.
Two things become obvious from the Congress party?s approach to the issue. Firstly, that the Congress leadership can easily buckle under the pressure of anti-national forces. Secondly, in the Congress party?s perspective there is no place for the just demands and aspirations of Hindus.
Which is why, Jammu has become a volcano today. I heartily congratulate the patriotic and self-respecting people of Jammu. They have adopted the spirit of ?Do or Die? and taken to the path of struggle. Let us not forget that the people of Jammu are agitating with the Tricolour in their hands.
To tolerate injustice is a sign of cowardice.
But I would like to state emphatically today that this is not a struggle of the people of Jammu alone. It is the struggle of all the patriotic people of India.
This is not a struggle merely for 100 acres of land. This is a struggle for the identity of our Motherland.
This is a struggle against the politics of double-standards. It is a struggle against the politics of divisiveness and separatism.
Nearly six decades ago, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, had waged a spirited struggle against the same separatist mindset. ?Ek Desh Mein Do Pradhan, Do Vidhan, Do Nishan, Nahi Chalenge, Nahi Chalenge? ? this was the slogan of the Satyagraha that he had led. I had participated in that agitation.
Now the time has come again for us to once again say, ?Ek Desh Mein Do Mapdand Nahi Chalenge, Nahi Chalenge?.
The BJP shall never allow the politics of double-standards in respect of legitimate Hindu demands. We are prepared to make any sacrifices for this purpose.
Let me clarify here that the provision of land for amenities for Amarnath pilgrims is not a Hindu vs. Muslim issue. Land should be provided ? and it is indeed provided ? for creating amenities for the pilgrims at Muslim or Christian pilgrimage centres. At the international airport in Delhi, there is a separate terminal for Haj pilgrims.
If people give us the mandate to form the next Government, we shall unveil a large and ambitious project for expanding amenities at all pilgrimage centres in India. There is also the need to improve safety provisions. Recently, 145 pilgrims at the Nanda Devi shrine in Himachal Pradesh lost their lives due to stampede. Such incidents must be avoided.
* * *
India has never discriminated against any faith, nor will it ever do so. Therefore, I would like to appeal to all my Muslim brethren to support the Hindus? demand on the Amarnath issue.

UPA Government is a threat to the Nation
Terrorists have no fear in the UPA rule. For they know that the Government will not take any action against them. They also know that the Government has no political will to act against terrorism.
A colleague of mine in Mumbai, Dr. Kirit Somaiya, recently made an application under RTI to the Home Minister to provide full information about all the terrorist attacks since May 2004. The Government admitted that as many as 23 terrorist attacks have taken place during this period, in which 541 innocent people lost their lives.
But the Government also admitted that not a single guilty person has been convicted in any of the 23 cases.
The insensitivity of the UPA Government was most shockingly evident last week when a tribunal lifted the ban on SIMI because the Government had failed to provide sufficient material to show that SIMI is an anti-national and subversive organization. There was naturally nationwide outrage against the tribunal?s decision, forcing the Government to approach the Supreme Court for a stay against the lifting of the ban.
What was no less shocking, however, was that two ministers in Dr. Manmohan Singh?s Cabinet publicly hailed the tribunal?s decision. In so doing, they went against the Government?s decision to seek re-imposition of the ban on SIMI.
Therefore, the people of India would like to know whether the Prime Minister called his two ministerial colleagues to reprimand them for having violated the principle of collective responsibility of the Cabinet.

Why is the UPA Government not convening the Monsoon Session of Parliament?
Everybody knows how the UPA Government survived the trust vote in the special session of the Lok Sabha on 21-22 July. The Congress and the Samajwadi Party colluded to carry out a scandalous horse-trading operation to convert a minority Government into a majority Government.
After having won a fraudulent trust vote, the Government is now afraid of convening the normal monsoon session of Parliament. It is afraid because it does not know how to show its face in the House after the ?cash-for-votes? scandal.
Not convening the regular session of Parliament is an insult to democracy. I demand on behalf of the BJP and the NDA that the Government immediately convene the monsoon session and answer the Opposition?s questions.

Yossarin…
“Ek Desh Mein Do Mapdand Nahi Chalenge, Nahi Chalenge”.
Me Likes.
FYI, I am most satisfied today that the campaign to get the voters registered in my locality got done finally today.
I took two full days out to give the final push and I am satisfied with the efforts.
Now lets see, what turns out during the polls.
Columnist Ashwanikumar has written:
India’s Democracy is
Government Of the Criminals!
For the Criminals!
By the Criminals!
Any one having link may kindly post it here.
Another columnist Sudarshan Upadhyaya has termed the present day India scenario as Mahabharat of the yore. Congress is like Kauravas, BJP like Pandavas, Democracy of present day India likened to Draupadi’s ‘chir-haran’, Bishma sitting on the fence, impotent and unable to do anything, Congress winning ‘trust’ vote much like Shakuni’s gamble exploits, and asked where is Lord Krishna in the present day Mahabharat. The people will play Lord Krishna’s role at the hustings by throwing all these criminals to the dustbin of history.
Advani has called for ‘do-or-die’ in the present imbroglio. [Note: This blog was written for Recognizing the Moment]
Togadia has called for 2 hours ‘chakka-jam’ all over India on August 13.
Coming events are casting their shadows.
The Nation will have to rise in unison.
HM Patil promised monetary compensation at a press conference in Srinagar today, to all those who lost their lives, properties, trade and business, but offerred no solution about Sangarsh Committee’s demands. Rumour is afloat that he might by replaced by Antony. Another lacklusture performer.
@Jiggs…keep up the good work! BTW, what do people in your locality think about the current situation facing the country…by that I mean are they sufficiently roused up to go out n vote & boot the anti-nationalists out of power, in next national as well as state elections? Why I said state elections ‘coz Maharashtra is going great guns under the present govt!
Regarding Yossarin’s post, LKA quite clearly expressed the frustrations, tribulations & disappointment of the average Hindu citizens of India.
Wrt LKA mentioning “…At the international airport in Delhi, there is a separate terminal for Haj pilgrims…”, I guess among the first things the BJP govt should do is to ax the Haj subsidy…why should Indian citizens subsidize this kind of endeavor esp. when the majority community of this country is denied even the temporary use of 40 hectares of land up in the inhospitable mountains for their pilgrimage. But, I guess as to be seen sufficiently ’sickular’ and calm down the imagined fears of minorities as well as their international backers about ‘communalists’ and Hindu-fundamentalists ascending the throne to power, these kinda steps could be placed on the back-burner, if history is any indication yo go by.
BTW, here’s another joker Deve Gowda, espousing the cause of anti-national forces:
BJP playing communal card in J&K: Gowda
http://www.hindu.com/2008/08/10/stories/2008081060190800.htm
With traitors like these, we need not look afar for enemy to be doing the dirty work of destroying India, Gowda & his likes are working pro-bono for them. I guess, the joker thinks that all these lofty pronouncements would return him to power in K’taka next time…wishful thinking indeed for the senile old ’sickularist’!
Sorry typo in the first para in my above post…:(
Should read:
Why I said state elections ‘coz Maharashtra isn’t going great guns under the present govt! So their might be anti-incumbency factor in play and is BJP geared up sufficiently to rise to the challenge? I guess BJP’s presence in rest of Maharashtra is not such so as to form a govt on its own, it will still need to partner with SS!
Jiggs can you enlighten us?

Sootradhaar:
Shiv Sena has been the oldest and most natural ally of BJP is Maharashtra. Leaders from both the party know that they will lose if they fight election separately.
@Mandhar…I might be wrong and do plz correct me if so, isn’t Shiv Sena’s influence on the wane esp since Raj & many other influential leaders broke away and also since Bal Thackeray is not that active due to the onset of old age? Moreover, isn’t SS’s influence limited to Mumbai & adjoining areas? Wht about Vidarbh? Marathwada? Also, Baramati & adjoining areas still vote for Sharad Pawar!
Sootradhar:
Since re-alignment of the vidhan sabha constituencies Mumbai and Thane seats have gone up a lot; this is a crucial and must sweep area for BJP and ShivSena if they want to get near majority.
The ‘Yuti’ of SS and BJP is natural and not just a political. The fact is that in India their is no other political party supporting the cause of ‘Hindutva’ more openly than Shiv Sena.
GVL Narashima Rao says BJP fails to capitalize on the terrorism issue.

UPA bungles on security, BJP fails to capitalize
@Mandar BHAU…
“The ‘Yuti’ of SS and BJP is natural and not just a political. The fact is that in India their is no other political party supporting the cause of ‘Hindutva’ more openly than Shiv Sena”
It looks very hunky dory, however, ask a BJP worker and they will all tell how, that the party must go it alone, coz they are fed up with this SS brand of politics.
The fact remains that SS uses Hindutva like a who.e, they bring it out during NATIONAL elections only. If you read LKA’s speech above he has specifically pointed out the DIVISIVE politics played by parties in Maharashtra. You know whom he is aiming at. SS could have clamped its foot down then and stuck to Hindutva. But no, they went to match the other guy word to word.
This bacillus of hate has entered our Politics in Maharashtra and for many people it is an extremely sad state of affairs.
I personally feel that BJP should have gone it alone long time ago, had they done it, they would have been the single largest party in Maharashtra long time ago. But thanks to the Mahajan lobby this never happened.
SS gets votes from the middle class in Maharashtra only coz of the BJP / NDA. This is a fact.
@sootradhar # 3 ….
Hindus are livid with anger at the turn of events. My locality is Mini Bharat and everybody shares our angst. Why they themselves came out with me to complete the paper work and going and submitting applications for names in Electoral rolls, voter ID’s etc. This shows that they are livid and will open up during the polls.

“guess BJP’s presence in rest of Maharashtra is not such so as to form a govt on its own, it will still need to partner with SS!”
Yes, BJP can got it alone and if it does so, it will be the largest political party in Maharashtra. There is no question about it. However, LKA / Munde are still blinded with Mahajan’s shop worn lies that BJP needs SS. They are not willing to give it a try even. The alliance is there all right, but the SS plays very dirty and works against BJP candidates, ensuring they lose, so the status quo in Maharashtra remanins .i.e. SS has more seats then the BJP.
This elections BJP will partner the SS. However, once the M.O.D comes (whenever), I believe this will change.
And this time around Maharashtra will unfurl the Saffron flag, BJP SS will form the government with Udhhav Thackeray as CM.
Hey All Indian.
Proud Moment for us as ABHINAV BINDRA has WON the GOLD MEDAL in BEIJING OLYMPIC.
First Individual Gold Medal.
WE THANK BINDRA and can proudly says “JEETEGA BHARAT”
how much do we remember, and what do we remember, of the massacre of Hindus by Moplas in Kerala in 1921? how much do we remember of the massacre of Hindus of Marad in Kerala in 2003?
The people of Jammu are on their own. They may be made an example of for daring to stand up as Hindus, something that has never happened anywhere else in secular India. Rather than cheering them on, we need to fear for them.
I want wish Bindra on behalf of all Indians.
anon..
First of all lets celebrate Abhinav Bindra’s Gold Medal.
You have made the country proud. A Gold Medal at the Olympics is an achievement.
BHARAT RATNA FOR ABHINAV BINDRA!
Your worries about the Jammuites, If it were say 15 years ago, I did be worried.
But, hereon it is impossible to subvert them any longer. Look, they have sensed a victory and once they achieve it and taste it, there is no going back.
IMO, Jammu will become like Gujarat. Trust me mate.
Lets be positive.
it is sad that many indians doesnt know about Shyamaprasad Mukherji’s contributions, especialy his struggle against “internal visa/permit requirement for Indians to Kashmir”.
Padmasris and Bharat Ratnas have become dime a dozen these days my friend. As many are available as there are sleazy journalists. Think Turdesai.

UPA bungles on security, BJP fails to capitalize
Rao wrote: “The L. K. Advani of the 1980s would have torn the UPA to pieces on such glaring failures and the nation, and, particularly, the middle classes would have swung to the party’s tunes but the BJP leader has now cultivated a “Vajpayee-like” liberal persona. And there is no one to step into Advani’s shoes as every leader in the party wants to become “Vajpayee-like” in search of that elusive prime ministerial office.”
I totally agree with Shri Rao’s observation. All the so-called second-rung leaders of BJP dreaming to become PM, so they are more trying to become politically correct than any leaders. These days, any xyz dreams to become PM and behave as they are PM.
Except Shri Modi, most of them are not worth to call themselves as leaders. What worth Arun Jaitley, Shusma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh carries? What worth to call them as future PM? They are not even equal to dust of Vajpayee and Advani’s shoes. BJP to come to power, must bring Shri Narendra Modi at the centre-stage before the next election. Else, forget to win the loksabha, unless it comes like lottary as Congress got it in 2004.
Well hats off to all the Jammuites for not giving up when the whole of India was adamant on ignoring them most of them the media …..
they have kept the issue alive and now i can see fear in the eyes of sickulars like farooq abdullah …. u know what he now says …. “please do not communalize this issue by taking this to all over India” …..
the only thing he is afraid of is …. that the whole of India will see the reversal of the land which is the size of a footbal field and meant for TEMPORARY SHELTERS FOR PILGIRMS as an insult of the hindus in India who fund the hajis with their blood earned money ….
let me tell all the people in the valley who are playin with this situation … once the hindus in this country have had enough of all this …. first the article 370 will go and then all those who oppose will either see all that happens from BELOW (we all know where they all will end up once they are dead, these cowards who kill children and women and plant bombs in hospitals) …. or they will end up in their dar ul whatever aka pakistan … everybody knows how lovely life in that country is …. where they are still treated as second class citizens and called as muhajirs …. shameful for anyone who wants to do anything with that country ….
this UPA government is gettin dangerously close to the chinese and ignoring the signs that are being sent by pakistany army of its intentions …. there is somthing that is brewing under the civilian government which i am not sure about and frankly i wont trust the pakistany government for a penny … it has no power on the army or isi … India has to guard itself at all times … there should be the harshest punishment for anyone who is caught even talkin to anyone who has to do anythin with the terrorists … with no leniency whatever … we need POTA back as soon as possible … these people have become bold in their attacks becoz of its repealing …
lets vote BJP to power this time…. and there is a stern warning to this party …. do not behave like u did the last time …. with ur president caught taking BRIBE … with jaswant singh takin terrorists to afganistan …. put in your best for 5 years …. then lets see how you are not voted back ….
for now we all have to start a campaign to get BJP to power with the maximum seats …. so that small parties cannot bully … with their regionalism( which is the worst enemy of India in the coming decade ) … its a shame for raj thackery …. he should have his face painted black and walked on a donkey on the streets of Mumbai …. and as a lesson told to make sure that WE SHOULD NOT BE FIGHTING AMONGST OURSELVES ….Mumbai is a land of dreams … its not his …. or bal thackerys even … its India’s diamond …. its a shame these people go to such dirty levels to get some votes …. got fight the terrorists raj …. go fight the pakistanis …. go get dawood … not biharis … u may not like them …. but they are hard working if a lil naive at times … u can say u dont like them but not create attacks on such people U ARE A DISGRACE TO THE GREAT STATE OF MAHARASHTRA AND THE MARATHA people …
DO YOU BELONG TO THE SAME GREAT MARATHAS WHO FOUGHT THE BRITISH AND WERE THE FIRST FOR THE STRUGGLE OF INDEPENDENCE WITH THE SAME PEOPLE OF UP AND BIHARI MARTYRS ??
there are a lot of questions for this country …. it is still very young as independent … i have nothing against the good muslims …. they need to rise against the bad elements in their fold …. there is place in this country for all of us ….
LIVE AND LET LIVE ….
