Its a very rare occassion when Sphinx Like Silence stands out for its eloquence. Well that rarity has occured and has gone largely unnoticed. Vir Sanghvi wrote a scathing piece in the Hindustan Times. The tone of the piece is perhaps another indication that Sanghvi is no longer in the inner circle of media spin-meisters for the Congress.
The piece aptly titled “Bonfire of Morality” is refreshing for this one sentence
The loser, in the long run, is Manmohan Singh. Once this ?Singh is King?nonsense fades, and the euphoria dissipates, the Prime Minister will find that he is perceived as just another politician.
But thats not the reason why Offstumped has made a departure to quote Sanghvi, having relegated him to the trash can last year. Sanghvi goes on to list who the losers are after last week’s tainted trust vote marred by the Cash for Vote Scandal. Sanghvi goes on to name Karat, Advani, Mayawati in addition to Manmohan. On the face of it the piece makes no mention of Sonia Gandhi. But then one needs to pay close attention to what Sanghvi is saying.
There is no doubt that MPs were bribed to abstain or defect. I have no idea whether the famous sting tapes will ever be telecast. But nobody in politics seriously disputes that money changed hands or that the victory was bought.
So far as good but what follows is damning
I do not believe that Manmohan Singh approved of ? or was even aware of ? the payments made on behalf of his government
What Sanghvi has left unsaid on “who was working on behalf of his government” is eloquent in its absence and rather ironical for Sonia Gandhi, who has come to symbolize sphinx like silence.
Every political observer in Delhi knew that the Congress had drawn up a list of ?vulnerable?MPs, and that responsibility for ?winning them over?(which sounds nicer than ?buying their votes?) had been divided between various Congress leaders
That may? be putting it rather mildly but Sanghvi leaves no one in doubt where he is going with this piece.
Perhaps, others did the actual buying, but one is reminded of Sarojini Naidu?s famous remark about Mahatma Gandhi: ?It costs a lot of money to keep this man in poverty.? Except, in this case, it costs a lot of money to keep Manmohan Singh in power.
Offstumped Bottomline: Sanghvi may have stopped short of calling out Sonia Gandhi by name but he leaves no one in doubt where the buck stops or rather the bucks start to keep Manmohan Singh in power.? Manmohan Singh is damned if he does and damned if he doesnt. If he claims innocence of the purchase of votes on behalf of his Government he ends up indicting the Party and its President. If he takes responsibility he sinks the Congress President who appointed him as her surrogate.?Either way Sonia Gandhi stands outed in the Cash for Vote scam.

Yossarin,
I am wary of trusting this turncoat Sanghvi. This guy is plain stupid amongst the seculars.
Once I read his article on illegal Bangladeshis and this moron went on to suggest that Pak and Bangla were part of India before 1947 so what’s the hue and cry about illegal Bangladeshis. We are fortunate that he isn’t in the government
I agree with Shanth…about this turncoat Sanghvi…he knows which side his bread is buttered…remember he is the editor of (unofficial) Congree mouthpiece HT…whose owner Shobhna Bhartiya will, IMO, no doubt give him the boot if he goes against the powers that be…like a leopard never leaves its spots…similary to expect ‘pseudo-sickularists’ like Sanghvi to bite-the-hand-which-feeds-him would be nothing short of but delusion.

Vir is not editor of Congress Rag HT any more, he had been till few months back. And yes, Shovana Bhartiya is Rajya Sabha member courtesy Sonia Maino.
Yoss,
Vir did not have any sudden pangs of objectivity or fair play…the guys is miffed with Sonia and gang since he was denied ‘A Ratan’ award.
Poor guy has reason to feel so especially when two another fellow travellers, ‘chamcha in chiefs’ Barkha and Shit Head rajdeep managed one.
PI.
Well, I wont trust the man, ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY….
All I can say is that the Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh got a pat on the back from Mama Maino as he did s splendid job and was of good service to the Congress.
This same guy, runs electricity bills of 65 Lacs per month and the PM residence runs 32 lacs.
This too in electricity starved Maharashtra, where power cuts range from 6 to 14 hours daily.
yoss

Did you read the piece by Tavleen Singh in the Sunday Express?
She puts the entire blame on the BJP for the cash for votes scam ! She says the money shown amounted to a few lakhs only (despite Ten Bundles of Thousand Rupee Notes, each bundle amounting to Ten Lakhs, being waved about); the sting was no sting at all, the recordings being scratchy and all-the reason why it has not been aired so far– etc., etc., says she.
It is worth reading once at least to know and understand what a low life this woman is !
