It is unfortunate that some in the media could not resist the temptation to have a dig at Narendra Modi and the BJP’s anti terror record.
The bottomline is the Nation is at War both from within as exemplified by these bangalore, ahmedabad blasts and from across our frontiers as exemplified by Jammu kashmir and Kabul.
The government continues to dither by fingerpointing and washing its hands off passing the buck to the state governments.

Idea #1 – create a platform that brings all terror victims together and their cry for justice. It could be a youtube video with real faces, names and passionate words from the victims themselves.
Idea#2 – shame the congress leadership. They do this very effectively in the U.S., flood them with phone calls, snail mail and email, make their lives miserable with relentless bombardment.
Idea #3 – more long term alomg the lines jiggs is suggesting a resolve to motivate every middle class household with a direct stake in the new economoy to turnout and vote.
I think we need the people in the security establishment to come out in the open and say things that they are saying anonymously.

Jiggs, Your idea of Sampooran Kranti won’t happen for sure in present day India. The best we can do is ensure we and our family members vote without fail in the next election and over throw this Cong government, and hope for the best.
A nice idea to protest but I am not sure how much blogs and videos will work in the Indian setup. I believe the problem in India is we keep complaining about lack of political will, etc etc, but we do not collectively show our protest. I do not know how this can be achieved but ideas are needed to open up the collective responsibility for freedom, and security, and we should show a force of unity. Lot of Indians share this frustration but unfortunately we lack the leadership to harness that frustration.
Potential ideas:
1) Organize regional events specially in cities and urban areas however small it might be , even with few members who are interested, take videos and publish it.
The message must have the following : We want safety for our family and community against terrorism in India. We want action against terrorism! You want votes talk to us about security for us. We will take no excuses or apologetic opinions compromising our security.
2. musical events, showing solidarity for victims of terrorism.
3. Encourage responsible private owners to put ads asking government to take action against terrorism and maintain peace. The posters / ads should not show trigger any communal overtones, but emphasis on the need for security for us and families and children. It is in the interest of everyone to demand security.
4)Such ads can be placed on websites, youtube, sympathetic news media, which are very few.
I dont know if these solutions exactly will work. But I believe it essential to get a mass movement going. Our government in power or opposition is not going to wake up as long as people accept this and move on.

I would not put it past them to be ensuring intelligence does not reach BJP-ruled states. After all, look at what they have done in Chhattisgarh. They basically told Raman Singh, “go do what you can with your own police force” and they are hoping that in the next Assembly elections there, they can use the Naxal issue to win…only problem is people aren’t that dumb, and BJP has instead come up with a mass-based movement such as Salwa Judam.

That’s what Congress does (this Jasiwall guy immediatley comes and says we warned the states; what an idiot first he should be removed; NM was saying in some interview how vague these warnings were no indication whatsoever of the time and place etc.; if this is the way our intel agencies function we need a big revamp) and we are better than that. By the way doesn’t the state law enforcement units that have ATS (anti-terrorism squad) also have some intel responsiblity (Ahmedabad doesn’t have ATS but I think Mumbai does and Bangalore too)?? Or is the function of ATS only to nab the bad guys after the terror is perpetrated? If so that’s bad and needs to be changed.
Arvind, my guess is that state alone cannot prevent attacks. For example, the national intelligence people know what is happening in neighboring countries and tap phone conversation in foreign countries.
There has to be a coordinated way of handling this.
So many attacks in India suggests that intelligence is weak. While the events seem to externally inspired, they seem to be carried out by locals. So the intelligence guys should be able to sniff out these guys. If I remember correctly there are only 3000 IB people in the country. That seems to be very low. There should be at least 30000 people.
We also need better intel network within the Muslim community in India.
The growing intensity of Islamist inspired terror and Red inspired terror does not bode very well for India. If this is not checked in time, India will face very serious threat to dreams becoming a world power.

Laws such as Pota,etc do have advantages but power is often abused. When the governments wants to show that they are doing something to solve the case, often innocent people are made the underdogs and detained. Ofcourse why should anyone care about an innocent person being arrested/ill treated? But it is important to realise that often this creates bitterness in the victims and their relatives. Anti social outfits take advantage of this to brainwash them and convert them to hard core terrorists.
Problem is not only with the administration but also with people. We need to be more aware of our surroundings. We see a bag lying on a street but we don’t pay any attention to it. Our complacent attitude can pay a heavy price.
Organizing mass movements is not an easy thing to do. Its easy to talk about it on blogs. One should remember that majority of the population does not read blogs. Uneducated people do not read newspapers. The Indian population is an ignorant lot. They will look at a music video of the latest Bollywood song but not look at a social awareness video on youtube.com. It is only people like me and you who will take a glance, not the rest of the people. It would be more better if people from the police/government/NGOs go to each and every home in their area of jurisdiction and make them aware of how to react in such a situation. Teach them to pay more attention to the surroundings and what to do if they see a suspicious object in their environment.
Is there any Police Outfit in india on the lines of FBI?
Can India create one(An apolitical Indian FBI reporting directly to President of India) for these kind of attacks.
