While on sabbatical Offstumped squeezed some time out to get this post in.
The election commission has announced that it will hold polls in Karnataka by end of May. That is a welcome decision. This election will be an analysts nightmare given that it is the first election after delimitation – the Indian way to gerrymandering.? Arent we proud of our democracy, while the Americans re-destrict in favor of incumbents by eliminating any demographic possibility of a political opposition ever emerging we delimit with no mercy to sitting politicians. Take the case of a delimited Karnataka as per the recommendations of the delimitation commission. Deve Gowda’s Lok Sabha seat Kanakapura is a casualty of the delimitation exercise and what you have now is a new constituency called Bangalore Rural.
With BJP’s strategist in chief Arun Jaitley overseeing the campaign and Narendra Modi already doing the rounds in campaign the BJP seems to have gotten its act together, it now needs to frame the election with the right issues, betrayal by the JD-S earns it the first consideration but it needs to make this about the future not the past. It needs to go beyond the betrayal and articulate a vision of governance for Karnataka that keeps pace with both – urban aspirations and rural expectations.
Coming to the Advani book launch, it was absurd to read media and congress reactions. Sardesai makes an ass of himself with questions that were more about confirming his own prejudices than about the book or Mr. Advani’s views. Neerja Choudhary in the rediff reminds of the intellectual vaccum in the media with her juvenile comments on Mr. Advani’s alluding to Narendra Modi being first among equals in the next generation in the BJP.
The worst reactions predictably have come from the Congress. To begin with it was utterly lacking in grace of the Congress to not have attended the book launch. How can one take the Prime Minister’s appeal to the BJP for supporting the Indo-US Nuclear dealwith any credibility if the Congress cannot even muster the basic courtesy expected in a bi-partisan polity. Be that as it may the comments of that minstrel, sycophant, courtier and clown Abhishek Manu Singhvi on the book launch event and Jaswant Singh are a sure sign that the moral and intellectual slide of the Congress is now complete and irreversible. ?
Meghalaya is just the beginning, the Congress’ culture of sycophancy, arrogance?and utter?disregard for the Constitution will take it down the drain, the best efforts of the english language mainstream media to prop up Rahul Gandhi notwithstanding.
The countdown has begun folks,while on sabbatical Offstumped is still watching.

Just wondering…. how many times to date has the obituary of the INC been written? JUst klike, papistan, it still seems to hang around, though. Make no mistake, the kangress can best serve Des by dissolving itself, IMHO.
But will voters again buy into INC and media mongering or not? Time will tell.
Hi Yossarin:
I was also very surprised by Neerja Choudhary’s comments in the rediff. (http://www.rediff.com/news/2008/mar/21guest.htm). Here is what I wrote to her and her editor:
Dear Editor:
I feel sorry for Neerja Chowdhury. After writing a decent article, s/he just had to add salt to milk by saying that praise for Modi was due to Advani’s “lingering sense of worry about his Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat”.
You are talking about the person who resigned from the parliament immediately after being accused in the Hawala scandal.
I do not know how you look yourself in the mirror or sleep at night after blatantly accusing tall leaders like Advani of such small thinking when there is absolutely nothing in 60 years of his political career that remotely shows any lust for political power.
If Advani or Vajpayee were ever after such positions, they would have been a nameless congresswala 40 years ago after having figured out the quickest way to a ministership.
This is like reading Ramayana and then accusing Rama of having lust for power forgetting that he went to 14 years of Vanawas to keep his father’s word.
I guess, some people just never learn. Keep your head in the sand and keep claiming that the world is dark or blind. Just know that your perception of world being blind is not a reality and the last laugh is on you.
You must have a leadership & readership that thrives on negative reporting about BJP / RSS. If this kind of daily activities puts food on your table then it looks like “Papi Pet a Sawal Hai”. Sorry to have tried to wake you up.
Arun Jaitley yesterday made a blunder by bringing in Rahul Gandhi’s dismal record in UP elections. That brought prompt rejoinder from Singhvi and he showed mirror to Jaitley, Ramnathsinh and BJP for their own dismal record in UP elections.
Rahul Gandhi’s ineptness is known to one and all. Let him commit faux pas in Karnataka elections, and electorate will be well equipped to reject Rahul’s leadership.
Arun Jaitely, Narendra Modi, and all other BJP propagandists should ensure positive images of Karnataka governance if they are voted to power with assured majority. The new leader of BJP to rule Karnataka must be weighty and crafty enough to countermand S.M. Krishna’s influence on voters and Congress.
Sify.com in its astrology section is carrying written opinion of an astrologer mainly for Share Market’s behaviour.
In that report, the gentleman astrologer has predicted that:
1) Next Lok Sabha election would be won by NDA;
2) Advani would be the PM;
3) He would give up his post after a year or so in favour of
Narendra Modi;
4) Narendra would rule as PM for about 1-1/2 years;
5) The next general election would bring Rahul as PM and
he would complete the 5-yr. term.
We have no telescope to fathom the future. Like it or leave it. Advani, Modi and Rahul are destined to be in the ring.
It is in BJP’s interest to not make negative comments proactively about Rahul unless necessary as a response. You do not want to instigate sympathy for him because of criticism – justified or not. It is important to let an adversary feel the perception of his overinflated strength NOT commensurate with the reality. The electorate takes care of bursting these bubbles (on all sides)
NDA is coming to Power in the next General Elections…..No two ways about it…
I am not able to understand when BJP will learn from past mistakes.They have not learnt anything from “India Shining”. They are trusting again media and internet…..Don’t they know those people who see news on TV and browse net don’t vote at all.
In 1996 and 1998 there was a “Karyakrta Sammelan” in each constituency.There has been no such attempt.why?
They want to win from TV studios and internet. They don’t want to go to villages and towns.I am afraid if course correction is not made Left will return to power( because present government is not a congress government its a Left government)

My Role Model Advaniji,
I was overwhelmed to read about your life in your esteemed autobiography. It was not only an inspiration for every individual of our country but also a torch bearer for coming generations to move into the right path of truth, commitment and sincerity. I think every citizen of this country must read about you and feel proud that India still continues to churn out great leaders. I have been working in the software industry for almost 8 years now and also an office bearer of BJP Yuva Morcha, Bangalore City (I’am actually an Executive Member in Working Committee) and been following politics from the day I found myself competant enough to give a thought about it, I can honestly confess that it will take very long time for India to see more leaders like you.
However with Karnataka elections already announced to be held in May 2008 and the list of candidates for Bangalore’s 28 assembly constituencies almost finalized, it was a bit disappointing to come to know that the youth and other deserving party workers were not given any opportunity to contest, win and represent the people as some senior local party leaders played “politics in politics” and “caste in politics” to book tickets for their near and dear ones that has thus resulted in denial of tickets for several able, deserving and committed party functionaries who have been endless working in the organization for several years putting their heart and soul in the party’s development and prosperity. The biggest upset was the denial of ticket for Sri.S.Harish, President of BJP Yuva Morcha, Bangalore City, who was a strong contender and ticket aspirant for the Mahalakshmi Layout assembly constituency in Bangalore. The ticket in this constituency went in favour of one R.V.Harish who has recenty joined BJP from Congress party. This has really brought down the morale of the youth in Bangalore and severely dented the image of BJP as the Yuva Morcha was the only forefront wing which successfully carried out every campaign against all kinds of injustice that was happening in the society and Sri.S.Harish was the youth icon of gen next not only in Bangalore but also at the surrounding places (see http://www.harishblr.bjpyuvamorcha.org for more details). Other important observations included tickets being alloted in “wholesale” for people particularly from “Vokkaliga” and “Reddy” communities with less representation for “Brahmins” and “Lingayats”. No tickets were provided for either Muslim or Women nominees.
The above comments were just some my observations and I’am confident that moving forward whenever there is again an oppurtunity to go to the people for a mandate, I hope leaders like you will ultimately provide more and more representation for the youth and the well deserved party workers. Nevertheless, your life story has left a permanent positive impression in my mind and I would continue to work hard and contribute to the upliftment of our party.
Finally, not many people are aware that the Bangalore City BJP Yuva Morcha also has a website which has been exclusively designed, developed and maintained by myself with all its expenses. The website address is http://www.blr.bjpyuvamorcha.org and it is still yet to be launched formally and dedicated to the nation.
I pray to the almighty that let he continue to shower his blessing on you to lead and guide us into this new hi-tech era and bring peace, stability and prosperity to our nation.
Long live our Prime Minister In Waiting
Thanks and Best Regards,
K.A. Chandrakanth

[...] question is particularly relevant in Karnataka for this is the first election with a completely altered electoral map thanks to delimitation. There is no way any pollster can come up with a representative sample based on past polling [...]
Congress is distressed with sequence of defeats in state elections. Congress is making conspiracy against BJP by provocation of violence. Congress is supporting violence in Rajasthan state. Congress is ready to support illegal foreigners. Congress is playing same conspiracy in Karnataka. Anti social elements sponsored by Congress is making people protests in violent means to enforce Police to shoot public to bring anti sentiment against BJP ruled Governments. Congress is already low and ready to go lowest extent by sponsoring and supporting violent means of protests in the name of people agitation. BJP shouldn’t trap in conspiracy of Congress. It was scared how extent these anti BJP forces go to stop BJP to come to the power at Center. BJP has to be more patient in their ruled states and should show wisdom and patience and order police authorities to tackle smoothly and avoid firings at any cost. People of India are brave and intelligent will understand Congress conspiracy and taught a lesson for sponsoring violence and supporting terrorism.
