PTI reports:
Senior Congress leader D D Lapang was on Monday sworn in as Meghalaya Chief Minister by Governor S S Sidhu who rejected the demand of the newly-formed NCP-led Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) saying the decision was aimed at preventing horse-trading.
Stung by the Governor’s decision, the MPA led by former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma decided to move the Supreme Court tomorrow against installation of the Congress government.
The Congress is back to its dirty tricks once again with stooges for Governor just as it did in Jharkhand, Goa and Karnataka.
True Federalism can be achieved in India only when the role of the unelected Governor was abolished and the Central Government stripped of its power to overrule the will of the people. It is time to amend the Constitution to have the Chief Executive in the States elected directly by the people for a fixed tenure. Legislative fragmentation must not be the excuse for continuation anti-Federal provisions of our Constitution in the 21st century.
It is time we showed the Speakers that their place in the Legislative scheme of things was not to subvert the mandate of the people but to just run the business of the house.
It is also time we booted the Geriatrics who occupy the Raj Bhawans and told them that they need to look for other avenues of employment post political retirement.
It is time we insulated the Government of the day from hung legislatures and fragmented verdicts.
It is time we directly elected the Executive and put an end to perennial dissidence.
It is time we separated the Executive from the Legislature and restored the? Checks and Balances our Democracy needs.

I guess the tiger never changes its stripes. You forgot to mention Bihar, as well. More nightmares on their way as buddho’s such as Arjun Singh get shifted out to Raj Bhavan. I think a constitutional amendment might be best, that the post of governor and President can not be held by anyone who has been an MLA, MP, MLC, Councillor, served in Panchayat or even been an active member of any political party. What say you, Yossarin?
Hi Yossarin
I think this is pure and simple case of personal vendetta subverting constitutional processes.Sangma is paying the price for his principled opposition on the issue of person of foreign origin holding constitutional position
Many year back Bihar Governor invited Nitish Kumar to form the Govt, being Largest Pre poll alliamnce and then ALL so called Intellectual Jounalist called this Murder of Democracy….
Now they are chuppppp.
I think even PROSTITUTE have got better Iman then these Intellectual Journalist.
Note the silence of of the media. Congress’s subversion of democracy almost always happens with the connivance of the media.
In the days when the govt. had the media by the balls thanks to the newsprint quota, we had fighters like Ramnath Goenka and Arun Shourie challenging the government. Now, in freer times, journalists keep quiet. What a pathetic fall in standards.
It is time Supreme Court tells Central Government to amend constitution and take out role of Governor or atleast redefine it’s powers…..
The office of Governor now a days has become a abattoir of democracy……more so when congress government is at centre….
No doubt journalism has fallen to a new low….TV News Channels have now become source of 24×7 entertainment, BJP bashing, Narendra Modi bashing, MMS Clips (count Adult Films), Todi’s bashing in Rizwanur suicide case, Narendra Modi’s bashing in anti-national Sohrabuddin’s encounter, etc…
Journalists today are actually busy vying for Padam Sri’s etc by giving false, incorrect and biased news about various opposition parties… One such examples are our own Sardesai’s , Dua’s and Dutt’s….I wonder what these pseudo journalist have done except bash BJP…..
I am fearing that an independent journalism in india is now lost forever…….
Dear Friends,
The depravity of media is unbelievable. When Sangma opposed Sonia’s accession to the throne, Times of India made a racist taunt against him, writing that Sonia looked like a “fellow Aryan” to the North Indians while Sangma looked like a foreigner.
In which country is a son of a soil humilated to please a foreign infiltrator?
It is only the Hindutvavadi forces which are true to the inclusive ethos of Bharat Mata, the Muslims fancy themselves as descendents of central asian conquerors, the macaulayites fancy themselves are inheritors of British India.
Moreover, Mr. Sangma, is fluent in Hindi and speaks excellent Bangla, this means that Mr. Sangma know at least three Indian language, while Sonia knows no Indian language, she even struggles to read Hindi in Roman script.
It is one thing to disagree with Mr. Sangma’s politics, it quite another things to spit at a brother to please a gori.
Just see:
Media pouring praises for Sangma as Speaker calling him even PM material.
Then Drama happen
Sangma Pawar termed Villain.
Pawar join UPA
pAWAR IS NOW NICE Man and Sangma still villian.
This is the Iman of our Media.
With due apologies to Dennis Ritchie
