Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will be held in two phases on December 11 and 16 and November 11 and December 19 respectively, the Election Commission announced on Wednesday, slightly advancing the schedule in the hill state on account of weather conditions.? Counting of votes in Gujarat would be taken up on December 23, while in Himachal Pradesh it would be on December 28. Electronic voting machines will be deployed. The term of the 182-member assembly in Gujarat expires on December 26 and the 68-member House in Himachal Pradesh on March 9.
While this brings the model code of conduct into force in Gujarat and HP, the EC added a new twist with its guidelines on monitoring electronic content which could very well seeModi TV go off the air.
The announcement of a two phased poll was welcomed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP has made development and his leadership its main plank. While Modi exuded confidence that the polls will be peaceful the media was up to its usual dirty tricks. This Reuters headline says it all:

Five years on despite the state making strides in development the left of center mainstream media continues to color its reportage with its own ideological templates and prejudices. This op-ed piece by Varghese George on a new middle class in Gujarat is in sharp contrast to the doom and gloom template with which media outlets like the Reuters tend to frame their Gujarat news stories.
The left of center mainstream media has also beentoo eager to hype up any story of dissidence against Modi even if based purely on rumors and innuendo. A great example were the flurry of news stories today on the imminent exit of Suresh Mehta from the BJP. So unfounded were these stories that Suresh Mehta had to go on record on Times TV to issue this categorical denial.

The malaise in the media runs deeper with even the PTI coloring its reportage with clear bias. With an opening sentence this PTI story raises serious questions on its credibility and independence

Offstumped Bottomline: As Gujarat goes to polls, the left of center media is up to its usual dirty tricks and smear campaigns. With tax payer subsidized PTI leading the charge it is perhaps time to hold the PTI to account for its bias.

Worry not yossarin, for the john doe in Gujarat hardly ever reads this shitty ELM. Especially the Ramnikbhai on the street of Junagadh, who makes sure that his vote counts. He would rather get his news from Gujarat Samachar or Dainik Bhaskar or any of the other Gujarati publications. The “intelligentsia”, who watch English news and reads ELM, siting in their posh bungalows in Ahmedabad and Baroda really don’t give a rat’s tail as to who wins. They dont vote.
Also all this media spewing nonsense was expected. wasn’t it? what effect did it have on voters last time? what effect will it have this time? if you ask me, nothing substantial. It just exposes their hypocrisy. thats all.

Second, one should read these headlines for amusement…ones like “Will Gujarati’s atone for the sins of the past?” on CNN-IBN…reading that, you would think all of the millions of people of Gujarat were out in full swing during tensions…wah re wah!
Announcement of Himachal polls came as quite a surprise…and given that it will be counted only days after Gujarat, Congress will be left with two demoralizing losses before the year ends, and it could give BJP the boost it needs to get potential allies to come back. Whether or not this prolongs the lame-duck government is beyond me. I don’t think they are in a rush to have Jharkhand or Karnataka put to the poll-test, as both states are not likely to favor the UPA.

Congress-I party in Gujarat is a house divided. Shankersingh Waghela is a camel in the party. Recently he openly said in public that Rahul Gandhi would not be able to win election in Gujarat. Madam Sonia could not take any action for his public utterance. This major opposition party in Gujarat has not even named its leader to be next CM of Gujarat, should Congress-I win the election.
All this time, Congress-I has not put forward its blueprint for development of Gujarat. People do not vote on party manifesto religiously published at the time of election. The party has more or less played a very passive role in mobilising people’s imagination.
BJP too is a party in shambles. No effective national leadership, and different centres of power opearting without coordination, has brought down the image of BJP.
Narendra Modi is a powerful leader. Gujarat will reap the benefits of what he is sowing today. Even if he goes down in the election, the momentum generated by his efforts needs to be propelled in the right direction in future. And this practicle common sense in any ordinary Gujarati will lead to positive vote for NM, in the absence of any other powerful leader both in BJP and Congress-I. Gujarat is the only state in India where dual party system is operating.
It is absolutely true that electric power theft has gone down tremendously in Gujarat. Gujarat Electricty Board was carrying staggering accumulated loss of Rs.4500 crores for many years. All that has been wiped off, GEB is now providing effective round the clock electricity to all of Gujarat’s 18000 villages. Cities like Ahmedabad and Surat, under Torrent power supply, are having near 100% efficiency in power supply. Gujarat will become surplus power producer by 2010.
All that Sonia and her henchmen say is that Gujarat will witness communal clashes around election time. Only 2 months are left. It will be a huge and herculean task for Modi now to prove them wrong.

I think these channels are helping Modi anyways. These sentences will not be going well on Gujrati community that supported Modi. They will be forced to the remember again the trauma of those days.
Also with so much of development they will feel that the congress and other media donot have any agenda but to go back to history. This will definitely be a negative for congress.

Kesubhai patel and kashiram has decided not to play in gujarat election, they will neither play for BJP nor for rebel or congress. That leaves for NAMO – feather weights suresh mehta and gordhan zadafiya. Rebellion has fissed, leaving some unfortunate ones – mud slinging. Arun jaitley has successfully convinced Kesubhai to not leave saffron front and look at the larger picture. Dr Jaydeep patel, right hand of Praveenbhai Togadia, has been inducted into BJP and will fight election from naroda seat. That gets VHP into play again.

PTI is more aptly called “Presstitute Trust of India” these days. Its coverage has not only a clear pro-Congress slant, but a very obvious anti-Hindu bias as well.
It repeatedly calls BJP a “saffron” party. The context in which this word appears in the text is often negative. Now, as far as I am concerned, saffron is a colour holy to me. PTI maybe a Congress outfit for all I care, and it is entitled to its campaigns against BJP, but why did it make it a matter of routine to abuse the sacred symbols of Hinduism?
It is time to write protest letters to the outfit. We should also ask it to attach bylines to its stories, so that we can see who are the habitual offenders.

deal couldnt be closed today,, although Keshubhai is very much aligned to BJP now. There are some issues like exercising liberal policy in matter of electricity to farmers and land act etc to be sorted out
. It will take sometime to sort out. But dissidents are on run. Congress finds lost ground and has started looking at other issues now.

Keshubhai not only wants share in tickets for saurashtra but also from south gujarat region. He feels that Modi wants to give more tickets to OBC leaders, so he wants to balance a bit(ofcourse by giving tickets to patel contenders). Yesterday, NRI Nat Puri, who is straunch BJP-supporter was called to pacify Kesubhai. Mr Nat Puri generally is finance guy for keshubhai.
Regarding electricity issue, I was also thinking on similar lines, but again this people are politicians. One thing is very clear Keshubhai has no faith in Narendra modi, he is still in BJP because of “congress family bullshit and appeasement politics”. Shankersingh vaghela is no happy man in Congress, and may form another party just after election.

Finally, Keshubhai has accepted settlement. Keshubhai will campaign for BJP in Gujarat. It marks the end of whatever dissidence was. Arun jaitley should be attributed for this successful settlement. It will not only bring leuva patel community in saurasthra region back into BJP folds, but also convince some patel community leaders that BJP is not going ALL OBC in Gujarat. Although being from patel community, I feel guilty about how community identity and equations sometimes are put above core ideology and such settlements becomes necessity. Anywayz its good ending to story. Settlement details are out of my reach.
