Look who is fomenting Terror ?

Its Day 3 after the Hyderabad Blasts. The BJP VHP sponsored bandh in Andhra is reported to have mixed success. The Andhra Chief Minister is on record with many surprising statements this moment of uncontrollable levity notwithstanding.

Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has mooted the idea of a powerful, vibrant and dynamic organisation on the lines of Greyhounds in the intelligence department with the state police to deal firmly with terrorism and the security of the state

This organisation will be world-class and could be on par or above the standards of Centre’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and other top class intelligence organisations

And then you have Pakistan jumping all over the place over YSR’s statements

Pakistan has termed as “conjecture” the statement of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy that terrorists based in that country could be behind the recent Hyderabad blasts

YSR did his bit to add to the overall confusion with this less than credible attempt at allaying fears by calling the blasts a stray incident in an interview to NDTV. While the media debate continues on “whodunit” and if it was “stray”, Offstumped uncovered some startling facts revealed by the Home Ministry but with hardly any attention paid to by the mainstream media or political parties.

The MHA in itsyear end review of the Internal Security situationn in India for the year 2006 released on 29th Dec 2006 had this to say:

21 ISI- backed espionage modules were neutralised during the year up to 21.11.2006 and 57 ISI-backed terrorist modules busted during the year up to 31.10.2006

Now this is not the media saying this or an odd local politico or runaway police affair making tall claims, this is the Union Home Ministry on record acknowledging that ISI backed terrorist modules existed in India and that they were neutralized.

Now one wonders why this list of 21 and 57 never made it to the India-Pakistan Joint Anti-Terrorism Institutional Mechanism ?

Here is more from the MHA in a presentation on “Action Taken by Security and Intelligence Agencies” made to a conference of Chief Secretaries in 2006.

“More proactive and sustained action is required to pre-empt Pak ISI backed terrorist modules and neutralise threats to internal security

Well it is just strange that the while the MHA had no compunctions in calling terrorist modules “Pak ISI backed” the MEA is nowhere in the picture on taking this up with Pakistan.

Either these modules are not ISI backed or the Government is just lacking in its will to take on Pakistan based terror.

Speaking of will, this Government has been second to none in paying “lip service” to the victims of terrorism.

Check out all the lips hard at work in the Prime Minister’s Office as Dr. Manmohan Singh administers’Anti-Terrorism Pledge’ at South Block on the occasion Anti-Terrorism day observed in New Delhi on May 21, 2007.

Well perhaps its time to remind Dr. Singh that Indian’s are demanding much more than mere lip service from his Governnment, they are demanding accountability and action.

Before we wrap up for the day, an Offstumped pop quiz to keep all those grey cells working.

How many of you knew India officially observes an Anti-Terrorism day ?

Since when do you think India has been observing Anti-Terrorism day ?

What was the Anti-Terrorism Pledge that Dr. Singh Administered on May 21st ?

Well if that was tough here is an easier one, how many of you still remember S.B. Chavan ?

Now what was S.B. Chavan thinking back in 1992 when he decided that May 21st would be observed as Anti-Terrorism Day ?

I think it was a practical joke on the nation by SB Chavan. Rajiv Gandhi was one of the principle supporters of a terrorist organization namely the LTTE and was killed ‘with some justification’ by the same organization when he back-stabbed it.

India’s anti-terrorism stance has always be hypocritical and laughable. We have promoted terrorism in almost all our neighboring countries. (Mukti Bhakini, LTTE, Nepal Maoists) But will make hue and cry across the world that we are infact victims of the same!

Its only appropriate that the day on which such hypocrisy was poetically rewarded (May 21, Rajiv’s assassination) is our ‘Anti-terrorism’ day!

We NEED TO HAVE SOME INDIAN SPONSORED BLASTS IN PAKISTAN AND BANGLADESH.

I guess the solution to effectively check terrorism would come only if BJP comes back to power and reestablises the robust “Anti-terror infrastructure” which they put up in first place during their tenure in power!

Terrorism was completely brought under control under the Vajpayee regime with Advani as the “Ironman” Home Minister. It’s a pity they lost in the 2004 general elections – which opened the flood gates to terrorism again…

India must be the only country in the world where the main opposition party and its supports – start jumping and baying for the blood of the Goverment (PM & his team) whenever there is some terrorist attack, crisis, or for that matter any major initiative of national importance!

US and UK also have terrorist attacks in their countries. Their bridges fall down killing people, etc. But see how the opposition parties and their supporters behave themselves in a responsible manner when in comes to a matter of “national crisis” or “national interest”. They condemn the terror and the terrorists – not the Govt. and its leaders. They provide the Govt all support in fighting the terrorists or facing the crisis.

Here, the opposition promply stalls Parliament seession, do not allow the PM to make a statement, hold political rallies, etc… They see each of these crisis events as an OPPORTUNITY !!

This blog site reflects just that….
90% of the topics raised indulge in Congress bashing and the rest 10% does Left bashing. Contemporary political issues are picked up to make a strong case each time.

It is unfair, in my opinion that issues relating to BJP or stands taken by them are never discussed in this blog! BJP may not be in power but it is still a significant political force today, and it definitely deserve some column space in the Yossarin blogs.

  5. RS says:

    RoW,
Yossarin is pro-BJP. So u should expect anti-Congressism here.

Then we are not the West. We are Indians and have the crabs in an open box mentality. So, such is our politics.

  6. Ninad says:

Yet again great factual analysis and attention to detail. Yossarin, you’re INI’s Arun Shourie !

    Keep it up !

  7. Sorry! a digression here – here’s the link you’d asked for on Karnataka’s political situation..

  8. Right or Wrong ? says:

RS – I am aware that Yossarin is pro-BJP. Ninad very aply describes him as “INI’s Arun Shourie”.

But one still needs to be careful about stretching things too far. Take the case of Arun Shourie himself who has made a fool of him self with his “incisive analysis and articles” first about Pratibha Patil and then against the Indo-US Nuclear deal. On both occassions BJP lost face and had to beat a hasty retreat ! Finally, his own leader – Advani, had to call his bluff by taking a U-turn on the Indo-US Nuclear deal! Now Mr. Shourie is fumbling to defend his aggressive stance.

SUPPORT FOR A POLITICAL PARTY SHOULD NOT MAKE YOU BLIND ! IF YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, YOU NEED TO BE BALANCED IN YOUR ANALYSIS… OTHERWISE YOU LOSE CREDIBILITY.

  9. Raaj says:

    Right or Wrong,

“Support for a national party should not
blind you” holds good to you too. Like Yossarin is a pro-BJP, you are a pro-Congress and you also don’t seem to be very balanced in replying to the analysis ;-) .

And frankly, after few of your replies I hardly read your comments sincerely. They are in alignment with the party you support (all hysteria, no facts). Sorry about that :-) .

    Right or Wrong

What are the discrepancies Arun Shourie made in respect of Pratiba Patil and nuclear deal. Unless you list them and prove, you will never be right and always wrong. (Comment No.8)
